Demo Jam

Demo Jam has been one of the popular highlights of SAP TechEd for the past 5 years - and is now launching into Australia for the first time!

Some of the region’s leading techies will be coming to Mastering SAP Technologies 2011 to demo their new, electrifying technologies, applications or approaches at Demo Jam. Join us and many of your colleagues to watch an impressive list of live demos on stage. Everyone is competing for the ultimate glory - to earn the audience’s vote of best demo of the night. Demo Jam will be a nonstop, power-packed session, presented on Sunday evening.

Remember, this is a contest, so bring your enthusiasm to support your favourite demos! And as Australians were the winners of SAP TechEd’s 2010 Las Vegas Demo Jam there will be fierce competition!

Each entrant will have only 6 minutes each to prove the supremacy of their live, hands-on demonstration to the audience.

If you want the chance to be crowned the first Mastering SAP Technologies Demo Jam winner, please contact Sophie on [email protected] for more details on how to become a contestant. Manage SAP Systems on Virtualisation and Cloud Infrastructures - SAP’s Comprehensive Approach

SAP customers are looking towards virtualisation and cloud technologies as well as application management tools to help increase business agility and reduce costs in the datacenter.

To help customers address this challenge, SAP is currently developing enabling technology as well as management tools and value added services to help customers deploy and manage existing SAP applications in virtualised and cloud infrastructures.

• Current state of the developed tools, future plans and roadmap details

• Demonstration

• Cost saving potentials

Agile Development in a Waterfall World

In a world of high demand projects and constantly changing requirements, it is important to have a development team capable of quickly adapting and embracing change. In this presentation, you will hear the story of how the Colgate-Palmolive Global Development Team used agile development techniques to successfully implement their custom MDM solution.

• What is Agile Development?

• Agile vs. Waterfall

• Choosing an approach that is right for your team

• Being prepared to move on when something doesn’t work

• Learning to recognise acceptable changes vs. scope creep

• Importance of selling others and having champions for your ideas

Realising The Full Benefits of SAP Identity Management Implementation Through HCM (HR) Integration

As Corporate Express (CE) embarked on a major transformation program to replace the legacy systems with the SAP platform, the security team was busy looking at how to minimise the administration nightmare associated with managing users, passwords and role provisioning across more than 30 development clients and at the same time establish a solid framework for future production user lifecycle management. Although immediately obvious to the technical team, the benefits of SAP Identity Management had to be sold to the various business stakeholders (and to some repeatedly!). The ultimate benefits realised at CE were just as many as the inevitable integration pitfalls encountered along the way. For example, who would have thought that a simple quest for a “single source of truth” of employee phone numbers could have so many different answers?

This presentation will share CE’s SAP Identity Management journey and how the tool was used as a conduit for real business change. Learn how by integrating HCM (HR) actions and processes with the SAP Identity Management solution CE has managed to deliver greater process efficiencies, reduce cost and put responsibility for user and security management squarely where it belongs, back in the hands of business.

• Building a business case for SAP IdM

• CUA (Central User Administration) vs. SAP IdM - new terminology explained

• Pre-requisites for extracting maximum benefits from your IdM implementation

• Tips on setting up your HCM master data extracts using LDAP

• Benefits of SAP IdM

• Hear how CE uses HR actions like hiring, transfers and withdrawals to automatically trigger SAP user lifecycle management actions

Develop a Learning Culture in Your NetWeaver Team and Have Fun Doing It!

In 2008 Australia Post upgraded its SAP systems to the latest release and adopted a full suite of SAP NetWeaver components. As the SAP NetWeaver Development Lead, John faced the challenge of cultivating new NetWeaver skills and knowledge in his team, all with a limited training budget. Join this presentation for a journey in building NetWeaver skills and knowledge in a real team - from Shared Memory Objects to Web Dynpro with Floorplan Manager, from Adobe Flex to iPhone development. This presentation outlines the challenges faced, the ideas that worked, those that didn’t and some positive outcomes that were unexpected.

• OK, we upgraded the software but how do we upgrade the team?

• Learning strategies and approaches adopted

• How we built incentives into the process

• Case studies - a snapshot of knowledge building activities at Australia Post

• Weighing up the costs and the benefits

What Does SAP Do To and For Your Organisation?

Benjamin Franklin once noted that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. The end result of most SAP programs is a different organisation. A large SAP program can change the organisation’s function from its current form, but many organisations only realise this half way through a program and struggle to catch up.

As such, it is not unusual for benefits to only be realised after a second wave of improvement projects. When realised, the benefits can be significant and obvious. Katrina and Amy will talk through the specific challenges and benefits that arose in the organisation when implementing the GPT Finance SAP program:

• Visible executive sponsorship is vital

• Embed your SAP implementation, upgrade or new tool to your business initiatives

• Getting the business to own the change from the start

• Clear “to be” processes and organisational designs are key

• Measuring the progress to identify and celebrate quick wins along the way

• Training is not just about the new tool. It is the processes and governance as well

• Don’t discount impacts outside of the solution:

• Support and sustainability

• Business resources and their availability to the program

SAP and Enterprise Integration: Why Can’t Our Enterprise Applications Just Get Along?

As businesses start to demand more agility from their Enterprise Applications, IT departments are being swamped with requests to integrate. Enterprise Architects are also using catchphrases like “Service Oriented Architecture” that are starting to get traction with business stakeholders. How does an IT department with SAP and a varied application eco-system, enable the development of integrated solutions that deliver on these promises? This presentation will discuss Vector’s new architectural strategy and integration approach and how you could leverage this in your business. An approach that has helped other large businesses deliver solutions that have enabled flexible integration between SAP and other core Enterprise Applications.

• But I thought SAP was hard to integrate?

• Standards - what are those?

• Transforming Vector’s integration architecture to allow the business to leverage SAP across the Enterprise by leveraging TOGAF

• Proprietary SAP APIs, Enterprise Services, which one to use, when and why?

17.40 Special Guest Speaker: Tawera Nikau: Refusing To Quit

Tawera made his name in the highly competitive world of rugby league, playing with South Auckland club Otahuhu before starting his professional career in England where he played with Castleford Tigers, Sheffield and Warrington. He later moved to Australia to join the Cronulla Sharks and then to the newly formed Melbourne Storm, where he was part of the 1999 premiership winning team.

A veteran of 19 tests for New Zealand as a forward, Tawera went on to captain the New Zealand Maori team at the Rugby League World Cup. Following his retirement from professional sport, Tawera is committed to giving back to the communities that have given him so much. He was the top billed fighter at the 2002 Fight for Life, raising tens of thousands of dollars for suicide prevention.

As acknowledgment for his contributions Tawera has recently been appointed as a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for Services to Rugby League and the community.

On a personal level Tawera has suffered his fair share of tragedy; in 2001 he lost his first wife leaving him with a young family of two to raise. In 2004 he had his right leg amputated due to complications from injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident. The traits that made Tawera into a sporting champion enabled him to fight back and make him an inspiration to anyone who has suffered adversity in their lives. He is a living example of someone who refuses to quit no matter how hard he is hit.

Build Offline Mobile Applications With Infrastructure and Skills You Already Have

Offline mobile applications have always needed specialist skills and infrastructure. The SAP Mobile Middleware, as well as the newly acquired Sybase Mobile platform add complexity and new skill sets to an already complicated IT Landscape. Often this becomes a barrier to adoption, delaying or preventing the introduction of Mobile Applications to the Enterprise.

With the development of the HTML5 Specification and the adoption of this standard by mobile browsers such as Safari and Chrome, the development of offline mobile applications for the iPhone, iPad and Android has just become a lot easier and less costly. These applications can be delivered via BSP, or directly from the ICM, meaning that mobile applications can be run from infrastructure you already have and without your team having to be trained in Objective C, or learn the details of the latest Mobile Enterprise Application Platform.

In this hands-on demo Alisdair will build a working offline mobile application for the iPad, showing what SAP skills are needed, how simply it can be done and walk you through the application that won the SAP TechEd Las Vegas 2010 Demo Jam!

• How HTML5 allows us to create rich offline mobile applications using just HTML, Java Script and CSS

• How to use AJAX to integrate you Mobile Application with your SAP Backend

• What Java Script libraries are available to help you with the development of your mobile application

• What offline storage mechanisms are provided by today’s mobile browsers and what is coming as part of the HTML5 specification

From Paper to Mobile: How Timesheets Have Evolved

How do you effectively capture timesheet data for 1200 users? ETSA Utilities have implemented several approaches, originally using administrative staff to enter the data manually into SAP. The paper timesheet forms were then consolidated into a consistent layout so the process could be automated using OCR technology. This removed the majority of the administration overhead but still involved some manual processing. In 2010, they began the rollout of a non-SAP mobile solution which includes the ability to create timesheets in SAP using Web Services. This process allows for seamless loading of data between systems. This presentation will explore the technology available in this journey to enter data into SAP and why decisions were made to use or not use each them including:

• Uploading files into SAP

• Remote Function Calls (RFCs)

• Web Services

• PI/XI - SAP NetWeaver Exchange Infrastructure

Solution Manager is Not Just a Change Management Tool!

With the establishment of a shared service model supporting a new SAP Implementation across the three engineering businesses at UGL Limited, the challenges were many. With a data centre migration, production systems needed to be resized and upgraded.

Solution Manager was an enabler for the upgrade. Technically it became very simple to work out and download support pack dependencies across the entire landscape. Business processes needed to be updated in Solution Manager to enable EhP 4 upgrade testing. They recognised the benefits Solution Manager provided in multiple areas.

After the upgrade, commitment and dedication of resources was assigned to the system technically and functionally to realise its full benefit. Currently, UGL Limited uses Solution Manager for:

• Monitoring - availability and critical alerts for over 25 SAP systems

• Business Process Monitoring of critical business processes providing visibility of failed processes in the business

• Test Management - automation of tests for projects and major releases

• Solution Documentation - centralised storage for processes and projects

Roshni will take you through all of the above as well as outlining the challenges, hurdles and business benefits that Solution Manager has reaped at UGL Limited.

Don’t Get Forgotten, Get In-Memory!

Every now and then, someone glances at the everyday and reveals something entirely new. A new way of seeing; a new way of thinking. Einstein once remarked: “We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them”.

Is your business challenged with how to:

• Instantly analyse customer behaviour and react to market changes quickly?

• Reduce your month end closing period and respond to necessary changes faster?

• Analyse and match the supply and demand pipeline in real time?

SAP in-memory technology enables a 360° real-time visibility view of your business and transfers you to go from “what happened yesterday?” behaviour to “what’s happening now?” management of your business.

In this presentation we’ll explore the state of play, look at the technology that enables modern business applications and how using it in new and innovative ways can enable us to do what our fearless leaders constantly demand: do more with less.

And whilst it all seems so new, you’ll learn about existing solutions that exploit in-memory technologies in supply chain (live Cache), analytics (BW Accelerator) and search (Enterprise Search) that are ready for you to deploy today. Finally, we’ll delve into some emerging solutions, such as HANA, that offer exciting possibilities for both existing and new SAP customers.

This presentation will benefit anyone looking to understand a new way of approaching business applications technology. In-memory technology adoption is set to explode, so don’t get forgotten...

A foundation was needed prior to implementing these projects as they wanted to make sure they had learnt from previous experiences!! Management and maintenance of Fonterra’s SAP solution was key to this foundation and needed to be the leading initiative. This presentation contains a number of gotcha’s, watcha’s and ‘ah ha’ moments that they encountered on their journey using SAP Solution Manager’s Change Management, Root Cause Analysis, Implementation/Upgrade, Test Management, Job Management, Solution Documentation Assistant, System Landscape Management, Administration, System Administration and System Monitoring.

• Tying down the scope

• Technical vs. process

• What functionality?

• Implementation

• Who do we listen to?

• Options a plenty

• What did Fonterra end up with?

• Solution Summary

• What next?

Making Your HTML5 Mobile Solution Intuitive and Look Awesome

Creating a mobile application that looks great and works well is essential in selling your new concept back to the business and making it a practical application for users.

Developing a functional offline mobile application can be relatively easy using HTML5. But how can you make it look awesome? And how can you make the application run intuitively and optimally wherever you are in the world?

Taking a basic looking HTML5 prototype, Matt will show you how to make your mobile application look and feel like its 2011 - not from the year 2000.

This demo will take you through the following:

• What questions to ask before you build your mobile application and what you need to do to sell the idea

• Building of a mobile and desktop friendly enterprise web application (focussing on the HTML and CSS side) - it’s not hard, but boy can it be tricky when you want to make it standard on all browsers

• Demonstrating how easy it is to rebrand the application with minimal fuss and no re-work when using the right approaches

• Giving you Tips and Tricks when it comes to formatting web pages for maximum effect but with minimal effort

• Giving you Tips and Tricks on how to make your application run optimally no matter where you are in the world, or how little bandwidth you may be experiencing
