Introduction
• Linac Commissioning is scheduled to start November 7, 2011. It is anticipated to last until the end of the year.
• Obtaining authorization is required prior to commissioning. The authorization process involves the NSLS-II project, the lab ESH committee, lab management and the DOE.
• The focus of this talk is path to authorization.

Linac Commissioning Task Force• On December 15, Ferdinand appointed the Linac Commissioning Task Force who’s task is to coordinate
commissioning of the NSLS-II linac• Members:
• Ray Fliller – Injection Systems, Task Force Lead• Brett Parker – Injection Systems• Joe Delong – Controls• Feng Gao – RF• Om Singh – Diagnostics• Bob Casey – ESH• Andrew Ackerman – ESH• Mike Buckley – ESH• Randy Church – Operations• Mike Santana – Operations• Timur Shaftan – Injection Systems Group Leader• Jim Rose – RF Systems Group Leader• Ferdinand Willeke – Accelerator Systems Division Head
• Meetings are held bi-weekly and as needed.• Current focus has been the Authorization Basis documentation required for linac commissioning in
culminating in the Accelerator Readiness Review.

Immediate Next Steps• Develop the Linac Commissioning Plan and other necessary
documentation• Linac Commissioning Plan outlines what needs to occur to be ready for commissioning.
• Get necessary AB documentation approvals from DDO and BHSO.• Interface with Research Instruments to develop a linac commissioning
sequence• A draft sequence exists.• I will travel to RI in late June with this as one of my tasks.
• Finish High Level application requirements and specifications• Prepare to the ARR

Conclusion• Linac Commissioning Task Force has been assembled to coordinate
commissioning tasks.• Task force’s main focus to date has been on developing the AB
documents with ESH. • This is on schedule
• The path to commissioning is clear both from ESH and physics point of view.
