Our Curriculum has been designed around the new National Curriculum which was introduced in September 2014. Information on the new Curriculum can be found at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/national- curriculum-in-england- framework-for-key-stages-1-to-4

The breadth and depth of study including the range of topics are reflected in our curriculum design. We have published a curriculum map which forms part of a two year rolling program.

We enhance the children’s learning experience by teaching through themes whenever possible.

We assess our children against national age-related expectations, which are set out in the new National Curriculum, and track their progress each half term.

As well as ensuring our children are numerate and literate we teach a wider range of skills. We promote sport legacy, healthy eating and the use of safe, up to date, e-technology.

We aim to prepare each of our children for the next step in their education and

future.

We aim to create independent and confident learners.

Our children are taught about relationships, personal health, dangers and risks through our PSHE syllabus. In addition our Year 6 children take part in Crucial Crew and work with local primary and high schools.

Our children are taught how to be citizens of their local, national and global community.

They engage with the Senior Citizens at the village lunch. Visit a local farm. Work alongside ‘EGGS’, our local community conservation group to look after our environment. Share worship with local churches. Support FIND, a local charity, at Harvest time and national charities at other times: specifically The British Heart Foundation and more generally through Children in Need. Celebrate food and festivals from around the world and compare life in Britain to other countries we have links with such as The Gambia, specifically New Jeshwang.

We learn about different faiths and cultures through our RE syllabus and experience diversity by recognising the different languages spoken and by inviting visitors from a range of faiths to share their practices with us. Our children have met and worked with pupils from our partner school in the London Borough of Havering in order to appreciate life outside their immediate experience.

Our school reflect traditional values. Themes such as Courage, Perseverance, Truthfulness and Hope are included in our education. These form the basis of our Church School ethos and inform our expectations for the whole school community.

Our Behaviour Code involves all stakeholders in the school community and rewards individual achievements and team success. Our behaviour strategy clearly sets out sanctions for inappropriate behaviour which underpin the fundamental principles of right and wrong.

Values and Rules

We promote democracy by the pupils electing their own:

• School Council • ECO council• Team Captains

These leaders hold structured meetings and their views are listened to and taken seriously. The ECO council promotes responsible attitudes for the way we live and how that effects the wider world.

We also seek the views of our children on their experience at school.

Through our curriculum, ethos, values and initiatives we are preparing our

children for life in Britain today and in the future.
