From the Principal’s Desk...Two short weeks ago our Year 12 students attended their last official day of classes. On this day, College teachers and students had breakfast together and reflected on some shared memories. These students are currently in the middle of their final exams. These exams represent the culmination of 13 years of preparation through Primary and Secondary education.The skills which Year 12 students use to successfully finish Senior Secondary Exams cannot be learnt at the last minute and aren’t a result of genetic chance. These skills have been developed by use over a long period of time, through essays written, assignments completed, research conducted and deadlines for completion successfully met. Students gain the right skills and attitudes needed for Year 12 exams through many years of engagement in a well-planned curriculum, which includes both formal and informal lessons, and activities.Students in lower grades need to be aware that every educational task completed will contribute to developing personal skills for their later success. Time spent in and out of class reviewing, completing and practicing tasks is necessary for academic skill development.At Prescott College, our staff are proud of our Year 12 students and we look forward to wishing them well at our Speech Night on the 8th of December. On this night, we will encourage our students to become lifelong learners as they start on their journey as adults, which comes with a new set of challenges. We are reminded in the book of Hebrews, chapter 12, verses one and two, to fix our eyes on Jesus for faith and perseverance as we do our best to be successful in every aspect of our lives. SA All Schools AthleticsCongratulations to our Year 8 students Tiara L-H and Aiden M, who represented Prescott College at the SA All Schools Athletics competition.• Tiara came equal 2nd in the U16 100m and came 2nd in the U16 400m.

• Aiden came 2nd in the U16 200m and came 5th in the U16 100m and the

U16 400m.Not only did Tiara and Aiden prove

themselves accomplished athletes, we are proud of the excellent

sportsmanship which they demonstrated on the day.

It is a government requirement that all students and staff wear hats when outdoors during the summer terms due to the risk of skin cancer. As students are walking both inside and outside during recess and lunch, it is expected that they will keep their hat on at all times. Staff are also required to wear a hat when on duty outside.

Prescott College UniformIf a student is unable to wear correct uniform, a note of explanation must be given, and clearly signed by the parent/guardian. The note should clearly state which item of uniform is unavailable and when your son or daughter will be in correct uniform again. Students out of uniform must report to the Deputy Principal before school to obtain a uniform pass.Just as uniform is required for many occupations, so it is for school. Students are only allowed 3 uniform exemption passes per term (with or without notes). When a student reaches 3 passes parents will be notified via the diary or an email. When a student reaches 4 passes, parents will be notified and that may result in the student spending time in the Focus Room doing his/her schoolwork.Every effort should be made to ensure that uniform items are available to be worn. If students must come out of uniform, only the item that is not available should be substituted. Non-uniform items

should be as close to the original as possible, being neat, modest and not drawing attention

to the wearer. Uniform passes must be worn so that they can be seen at all

We hope everyone had a great day, enjoying the Jumping Castle, Human Foosball, market stalls, PCCA performances, excellent food, and even better company! Thank you to everyone who helped to make the Prescott College Fete a special celebration. Thank you to all parents who volunteer to help on the day and contribute to our Lucky Door Prizes. Your support of Prescott College is noticed and appreciated.Our College staff did a great job running stalls and attractions, and organising the day, so a big thank you to our College staff as well!All the students who attended Fete were excellent representatives of Prescott College. College families and our local community commented that our students were helpful, cheerful and generally model

The Prescott College Fete was a fun, entertaining and festive time for our school. Being able to connect with our Prescott community was great, since most of the school came together, whether they assisted or just attended. I think that the majority of us would say it was a success even with the slight rain. There were various stalls which includes the bike & blend and face painting. Religion ExcursionOn October 28 The Year 11 Religion Studies Class went on an excursion to the Adelaide Hebrew Congregation. Rabbi Ben Tanny took the students on a tour of the Synagogue and its facilities and explained the main teachings and practices of Orthodox Judaism. Students are now writing an analytical report which will contribute to their Religion Studies Stage 2 subject. Dr John Lewis, Religious Studies Teacher

Year 12 Last DayThe 28th October was the last day of high school for the Year 12 Class of 2016. The day started early, at 7am, and surprisingly the majority of students arrived-bright-eyed and bushy-tailed! In line with tradition, Prescott College staff prepared a breakfast for students and as usual, the pancakes with cream and maple syrup were a hit!After breakfast, Mr Charleson gave a detailed speech, where he shared plenty of funny memories about each and every Year 12 student. This was followed by a worship, words of wisdom from Brittany and Sam and best wishes for the future to all the students.At 9am students took part in the much anticipated ‘bubble soccer.’ It was wonderful to see so many students (and a few teachers) having such a good time and even though they got quite hot in their bubbles, there was plenty of bouncing around going on.I believe I can speak for all teachers, even those who have not taught the Years 12s of 2016, when I say that it has been a pleasure to have known the Year 12s. Year 10 Young ICT Explorers CompetitionThis year the Year 10 Digital Technologies class had the opportunity to participate in a national competition. The Young ICT Explorers initiative is a non-profit competition, which encourages young people to pursue ICT-related projects in teams. Three groups participated from Prescott College, utilising a program called Alice to create an animation that highlights social issues such as; bullying, poverty and racism. I was highly impressed by the way students tackled obstacles, challenged their programming skills and finalised their products.Miss Renee Chen, ICT Teacher

“Learning Alice was challenging because our lack of understanding of the program, and we had to learn how to trouble-shoot our obstacles. We had a couple of problems, but we figured them out as a team. The organizers of the competition sent us merchandise such as t-shirts, pens, wrist bands and magnets to thank us for our participation.” Mohit C, Year 10

Year 11 Guest Speaker Binh from Market Ease, eCommerce"On Friday of Week 3, the Year 11 Business Studies class had a visit from Binh who is the founder and CEO of his business, Market Ease, which helps businesses with marketing and advertisements. Binh currently represents large companies such as Subaru and Hyundai. He provided great insight and a wealth of knowledge, which has definitely assisted the class with their current assignment." "I really enjoyed the insight that Binh gave us into how marketing has changed with the growth in technology. He told us about "remarketing", which is when advertisers essentially follow you around the internet and use your interests to market to you. Year 7 Orientation DayStudents from Prescott Primary Northern and a variety of other public and private schools enrolled for Year 8, 2017, attended Prescott College for Orientation Day on Wednesday 2nd November. Orientation Day gives our future Year 8 cohort a chance to meet our teachers and their classmates whilst learning a variety of different high school subjects.Mr Stuart Crisp taught the class how to make a noisy clacker toy, which was loud and fun. Ms Elizabeth Ludlow took the students on a tour of the Home Economics room and everyone made themselves a delicious and healthy snack. Girls and boys put some energy into good use playing basketball with Mr Carlos Vera. Paper helicopters were made to explore the scientific method by changing variables with Ms Vivienne Bradtke. Chess TournamentThe chess state finals were an amazing chance to extend our skills and participate in our second chess competition. We were tying for third place until this title got snatched from beneath us! The disappointment in Ms. Bradtke’s voice has made us even more determined to win next year. Prescott College Ski TripThe Prescott College Ski Trip is voluntary, and a great opportunity for students to learn a unique skill in a very special environment. Places are limited, and are available on a first-come basis to students of Prescott College. The cost to participate in 2017 is estimated at $1,300. This is an amazingly reasonable cost for such a venture. The Ski Trip will be run during the 2nd week of the mid-year school holidays. Summer Camp 2017Each year Juniors and Teens from all over South Australia head to Ankara Youth Camp for 6 days of fun and excitement. In groups, they build lasting friendships and are challenged with activities to excite the imagination and push each child to new physical heights. We have a range of water sports for your child to enjoy this summer! Wake boarding, G Force, Kayaks, our Giant Inflatable Wonderland and more! They have opportunities to try out the buggies, and RC Cars, and test their skills with archery. They will also have fun learning more about Jesus in the evening programs full of singing, acts, games, crazy auctions and a chance to show off their talents. Summer camp is an experience your child will never forget, which will create lasting friendships with peers. They will also be introduced to Jesus, a true friend to the end! Prescott College Hat Policy Terms One and Four This policy takes effect from Monday 7 November 2016 at the beginning of the school day. • All students are to have their own hat with their name clearly written on it. It is not an option to

wear someone else’s hat or a non-uniform hat.

• Students are to wear their hat at all times during recess, lunch, during PE classes when required and when playing sport on Tuesday afternoons. This includes when students are inside or outside.

• Hat name checks will be done regularly by teachers. Thank you for cooperating. • Students who do not have a hat are to report to Room C and stay there for the duration of

recess or lunch. Further consequences will be given to repeat offenders. Why does everyone have to wear hats? Where can I get a hat? Hats are available from Ms Prnich all week every week and cost $18.50. They are also available from the Uniform Shop when it is open on Wednesdays. How can I put my name on my hat? Students must use the white markers available from Ms Prnich to write their name clearly on their hat. What if I don’t have a hat? Students who do not have a hat are required to report to Room C for the full duration of recess and lunch. What if I have a hat at recess and lunch, but it is not on my head? Teachers can and will send students to Room C if their hat is not on their head. Students are reminded it must be worn for the whole of recess and lunch, no matter where you are – inside or outside. Should you have any questions about this policy then please talk with Ms Prnich.
