Noun clauses

We use noun clauses when we have a sentence, and we want to use the idea of the sentence as a subject or object in a sentence. We may do this because the idea is too complicated to express as a noun phrase or simply as an alternate way to express the same idea. Two common types of noun clause in English are

that-clauses and wh-clauses.

Page 11: Present

That-clausesThat is simply connector. It shows that a clause forms part of a larger sentence.

Example:-Anything that moves has the potential to create energy.

-you will be able to get to where you are going and know that the energy you created could be used to turn the light on in your house.

- It doesn’t have to be that way anymore.

Wh-clausesWh-words are

what, when, where, who, which, why and how. Example:-Members of a village could check weather reports for when to fertilize crops.

-You’ll trust the technology will know what you want.

-You can decide what to do with it.
