    present perfect simple.

To say )ho actually invented the sport of sno)boarding )ould be impossible because people have al)ays

loved to slide do)n a sno)9covered hill. oaring through the sno) on some kind of seat or board is nothing

ne). The )ays to en%oy the sno) are numerous, and people have devised )ays to turn garbage can lids and

cardboard into Jsno) boardsK to en%oy an afternoon frolic outdoors. The various )ays to glide through

sno) have become more sophisticated and have evolved into using polished boards or skis in much the same

manner as a surfboarder )ould ride a )ave.

There have been many attempts at developing a modern sno)board. In 743, the JnurferK "a )ord play

on Jsno)K and JsurferK$ )as developed as a childKs toy. T)o skis )ere bound together and a rope )as placed

at the front end to afford control and stability. Gver 388,888 JnurfersK )ere sold in 744 but they )ere

never seen as more than a childDs plaything even though organi@ed competitions began to take place. The

year 747 brought a slightly more sophisticated sno)board based on the principles of skiing combined )ith

    surfboard styling.

The J!lying ;ello) =ananaK )as developed in 755. This )as nothing more than a plastic shell covered )ith

a top surface like that of a skateboard, but at the time it )as considered a ma%or advance in the little kno)n

sport of sno)boarding. The first national sno)board race )as held in the area outside 1oodstock and )as

kno)n as JThe uicide ix.K The race consisted of a steep do)nhill run called The !ace in )hich the main

    goal )as probably mere survival.

no)boarding continued to increase in popularity over the next several years. In 763 the first maga@ine

dedicated specifically to sno)boarding hit the ne)s stands )ith huge success and furthered the popularity of

this exciting sport. Hoards of fans began to organi@e regional events and pretty soon sno)boarding events)ere held in all parts of the )orld. In the year 772 sno)boarding )as finally declared an Glympic event,

much to the delight of fans. The not9so9ne) sport of sno)boarding )as finally recogni@ed and meant a huge

victory for serious sno)boarders across the globe.

    - collection of sno)boarding tricks and stunts )as released on video in 774. !ilmed in -laska, the

breathtaking beauty and captivating sno)boarding techni:ues featured in the video exposed sno)boarding

to a ne) generation, and by 776 sno)boarding constituted almost 38L of all )inter activity. Today, nearly

all ski resorts accept sno)boarders. There are still a fe) holding on to the past but this is unlikely to

continue as the number of sno)boarders continually increases.

!rom the first crudely built sno)boards to the advanced and speciali@ed models available today,

sno)boarders have carried a Jbad boyKimage. This rebel reputation is still common today in spite of the fact

that sno)boarding appeals to men, )omen, and children of all nationalities and social groups. -t most ma%or

ski resorts you can find sno)boarding gear, information, and lessons. Glympic and )orld )idesno)boarding events are among the most popular of )inter sports and the competition to be the best is

    fierce.

Eetailers nation )ide and around the )orld carry many types of sno)boards, and the choice in specially
