Preliminary task and final magazine cover

When comparing my magazine covers you can see I was unaware of many forms and conventions. Because my preliminary task magazine doesn't follow the main conventions, it doesn't look as effective so it doesn't attract peoples attention or look professional. The masthead, cover lines and main image were the only conventions I was aware of when doing my preliminary task. However when making my final magazine I knew a professional magazine needed a masthead, cover lines, main image, selling line and sub headings.

Preliminary task and final magazine cover

On my preliminary task magazine you can see it doesn't have a clear layout. The cover lines are just randomly positioned above the mast head. Also the cover lines slightly cover the back ground image of the magazine which is one of the main features. As you can see on my final magazine I have realised this and placed my cover lines around the image making sure they do not over lap it so much as it is a main feature. I have done the same for my mastheads. On my preliminary task magazine the masthead covers the main image which pushes it to the back causing it to not draw much attention. I have learnt that the main image is just as important as the mast head so I have placed it at the top of the page and layered the image on top of it but not so much so both the masthead and image are clearly visible and bold.

When comparing the photos I had taken and used for my preliminary task magazine and final one I feel I have improved. For my preliminary task magazine image I didn't have a clear idea of what I wanted for the image. The image is also poor quality and I was just learning how to use photo shop and the effects Photoshop came with, as you can clearly see in the photo. When taking photos for my final magazine I had a clearer vision of what I wanted for example the facial expression I wanted my subject to show. I tried to make the artist pose in a way that related to the genre of my magazine. The image for my final magazine is of a better quality and edited much more professionally as id learnt how to use specific tools on Photoshop which helped create a professional looking photo.

Preliminary task and final magazine contents page

Similarly as my magazine cover I wasn't aware of the main conventions needed to make a professional magazine contents page. My preliminary task contents paged lacked text, images, colours and many things to make it look appealing and like a real magazine contents page. As you can see from my final magazine contents page I have realised my mistakes and took them into account by including all the things my preliminary task contents page didn't include. I have also improved the layout of my text as it now includes sub headings and a couple sentences underneath. I have added images as they are a important feature.
