CHRISTMAS IN TURKEY

Christmas in Turkey is celebrated according to the Gregorgen calendar.The thirtyfirst of November is Christmas night and the first of january is the first day of the new year.November 31 is generally celebrated as the night of new year . Before Christmas everybody goes shopping.People buy presents for families, friends and relatives.Shopping centers are full before Christmas.

In the evening of new year there are various fun and celebrations.In the menu generally regional dishes are made.People invite relatives for dinner.

• People decorate pine trees.After entering the new year people give presents to each other.

• Commonly people play Bingo as a game in their homes.And there are different kinds of programmes for

• the new year on tv especially funny and music programmes. Most people watch tv with all family. They eat popcorn, and drink cola while watching tv.

• New Year's Eve is celebrated in major cities in the squares. The night of Dec. 31 when the time is 24.00 the countdown is done.People say 10 9 8……. In large squares firework displays are organized.

• January 1 is all official holidays in Turkey.People choose red and green colour to wear in that night.This brings luck.
