THE MOST IMPORTANT DECISION you will make is the company you will do business with.

• Respect for your home and landscaping

• Handle ALL permits and paperwork required to complete your project

• Coordinate dumpster delivery and removal

• Daily clean-up

• Fully equipped vehicles

• Always make sure the roofing company is involved in your project from beginning to end

• The roofing contractor evaluates your roof prior to making recommendations

• Know what your roof needs to qualify for a manufacturer’s warranty.

• The contractor comes back to meet with the you after the job is done

• Make sure you are dealing with an expert roofing contractor that will make expert recommendations

Page 7: Presentation Book KI generic

• Are they sending out a roofing expert with hands on experience or are you dealing with a company that sends out fast talking salesmen?

• Are they compromising by using inferior materials, workmanship or by failing to provide expert recommendations and supervision? Maybe their recommendations don’t even meet building code requirements.

• Do they recommend tearing off the old roof? Or do they want to make a quick buck by putting a second layer, a second layer that provides less wind resistance, less waterproofing and won’t last as long? (Because it cost a lot less to install)

• Exactly how do they control the quality of service and workmanship? * What many times looks like a good deal up front may actually cost you 2-3 times more over the long run, due to repair cost and premature failure.

• Insurance – Is your roofing contractor protecting you by carrying the proper insurance

• Workmanship warranty is in writing, what is covered and how long is it?

This GAF Warranty Guide shows how an asphalt “lifetime warranty” really isn't good for a lifetime.

Certainteed tells you the truth as you review your roof… expect a natural aging process

The Life Cycle of Your Roof

“Just as the human body ages and changes

appearance over the years, so too will your roof. Due

to the severity of the roof environment, even a one-

year-old roof may look different from a roof that

was just installed. While you may have first noticed

the cracks or blistering from the ladder as you were

cleaning the gutters, please be mindful that these

normal weathering characteristics may not be

visible when you view the roof from your front lawn or

driveway.” –Pg. 1, CertainTeed Corporation January, 2006

The Life Cycle of Your Roof

Although your shingles may exhibit signs of cracking

and balding, this does not indicate that your shingles

are defective. There are many variables beyond

the manufacturers control which can contribute

to the premature failure of the roofing shingles. –Pg. 5, CertainTeed Corporation January, 2006

….The roofing environment is a hostile one with many

factors influencing the longevity of your roofing

shingles. The natural aging process begins as

soon as the shingles are installed on your roof. —Pg. 2, CertainTeed Corporation January, 2006

F.Y.I. Buying a New Roof and Getting

Your Money’s Worth

Shingle deterioration: When shingles are old and worn

out, they curl, split and lose their waterproofing effectiveness.

Weakened shingles easily are blown off, torn or lifted by

wind gusts. The end result is structural rot and interior

damage. A deteriorated roof system only gets worse with

time-it should be replaced as soon as possible.

Metal roofs condensate and need an underlayment system that will not rot or break down over time. Their function is to keep moisture

from penetrating the wood decking on your roof.

Tar Paper

• Main use under asphalt shingles

•Life expectancy 25 years

•No longer manufactured

•Cotton produced soaked in oil

•Replaced by felt paper

Felt Paper

•Life expectancy 12-15 years

•Wood based product, little oil

•Dry rots in 12-15 years

•Not recommended under permanent metal roofs

Synthetics

•100 year life expectancy

•Will not rot

•Permanent

•Woven products such as ROOFAQUA GUARD are stronger than spun products like tri-flex

Page 41: Presentation Book KI generic

Through Fasteners

•Nailed or screwed through the metal

•Used on pole barns and agricultural buildings

•Cheap

•Leak in 8-10 years when the rubber washers around the screws dry out from exposure to the sun

•Expansion and contraction of the metal loosens fasteners

•Should not be used for residential applications

Page 42: Presentation Book KI generic

Batten System

•Used on pole barns

•Inexpensive method installation

•Condensation drips from under the metal and runs down the batten and rots the wood

•Pressure-treated batten will attack metal

Page 43: Presentation Book KI generic

Concealed Fastener

•All fasteners are hidden

•Lifetime leak free roofs •No penetration of roof with fasteners •Allows for expansion and contraction •High wind resistance ratings

Lasting Beauty Other roofs quickly start to show their age, but our roof systems maintain its natural look for decades. Whatever color you choose, you can count on year after year of distinctive beauty.

Maintenance-Free Other roofs require regular maintenance to keep up their looks and protection; pressure washing and fire treating are regular added expenses with some premium roofs. But our roof’s PVDF finish means lasting, maintenance-free protection.

Walkable Our roof systems will have no problem holding up to the foot traffic most roofs endure. With careful steps, you needn’t worry about the occasional service of a chimney or antenna. Some roofs can be cracked or chipped by careless foot traffic, causing leaks.

generated in this country.
