LETTER FROM THE NEXT HIGH SCHOOL BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Thank you for your interest in Next High School and for your consideration of the various ways in which you might engage and

    invest with us.

After almost 4 years of dreaming, researching, planning, discussing, and working, Next High School is beginning to materialize

and take shape as a one-of-a-kind educational and economic lever for the students and parents of South Carolina. In order to

build the most innovative, project-based, state-of-the-art free public school in the Southeast, we need the participation of

businesses, educators, and individuals from across the state to invest directly into the lives of future economic contributors.

We are excited that you are considering joining the NEXT movement.

Contrary to normal practice, Next High School (NHS) does not view itself as a nonprofit soliciting donations from the good

hearts of various aspects of our community. Instead, NHS believes that is continuing in the long historic movement ofsocial

entrepreneurshipfound in the Upstate. As social entrepreneurship stands at the intersection of public and private interest, so

too Next High School stands as a champion of public education supported by the best and brightest in our local private

economy. As in all entrepreneur endeavors, the proper investment capital is needed for successful return on investment

    (ROI).

Next High Schools return on investment to the community will be measured in the economic output of the students

graduated as adults prepared for life after school. Some graduates will start businesses. Some graduates will work in agile,

technology manufacturing companies. Some graduates will pursue advanced degrees, software programming, military service,

politics, nonprofits, art, media, research, culinary skills, and on and on and on the possibilities are endless in our modern

    economy.

More than that, each student will be exposed to the high impact, fast-growth industry clusters that exist in the Upstate so that

our students can begin to align their passions and interests with local, lucrative career opportunities.

The Return on Investment (ROI) expands even further due to the fact that each student at Next High School will be encouraged

to engaged in incorporate their own business, file for patents, and earn money toward their scholarships while utilizing the

best technology tools available to connect to the global marketplace.

At Next High School, the return on investment potential is almost limitless with one caveat. The ability to deliver on our

shared vision is largely a direct result of our investor commitments. In order to facil itate the investment process, we direct all

contributions and investments through the Greenville Chamber Foundation, a registered 501c.3, to ensure that all investments

    are tax-deductible.

Thank you for your investment, support, and partnership in helping improve the quality of life in Greenville, the Upstate, South

    Carolina, and the world.

On behalf of the Next High School Board of Directors,

    Zachary Eikenberry, Board Chairman

    NEXT HIGH SCHOOL: EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Across our state of South Carolina, individuals from every background and walk of life understand that education is a key

arguably thekey to unlocking the door to rich opportunity. In fact, prosperity on a broad scale has been inextricably linked to

    educational achievement and degree attainment.

Education was originally designed to prepare our youth for life in an industrialized world. Generally, this approach to education

has served us very well. Public education has historically enabled us to achieve a degree of success evidenced by our nations

socioeconomic status as compared to the balance of the world. However, in recent years, our performance has begun to lag,

slip, and perhaps even to falter. Why? The world is now drastically different. It has changed, and the pace of change continues

to accelerate. The knowledge economy is now supplanting the industrial economy. The world economy demands that people

must not only know the right answers, but how to ask the right questions.

There are more young people enrolled in South Carolina schools today than at any point in history. If the next generation of

graduates is to contribute and prosper in a globally competitive economic landscape, they must be able to think critically,

anticipate and absorb change, solve problems, and achieve their full potential by investing their lives at the exact intersection

of their passions, talents, and market opportunities.

Next High School (NHS) is afreepublic high school with no admission

restrictions. It is constructed around design ideologywithin a project-

based learning environment that leverages a web-delivered

curriculum. This state-of-the-art school develops and delivers

education outcomes that provide young people a shot at their best

life once their formal education is behind them. In short, the mission

of Next High School is to prepare young peoplefor life after school.

Next High School is founded upon a select set of core values, the premier value being that allyoung people are capable of

becoming economic contributors, not simply economic consumers. Without compromise, NHS values the innate intelligence of

the individual and acknowledges every young person as worthwhile and exceptional.

In order to effectively introduce young people to life after school, NHS offers projects built upon pathways that represent the

disciplines and skills in greatest demand relative to regional industry and economic clusters. These clusters take the form of

community schools within Next High School, much like a university is comprised of a number of colleges that focus upon a

particular discipline or area of study.

School of Life SciencesSchool of MobilitySchool of TechnologySchool of Energy

Each and every student will be required to pass all state assessments and course work; however, they will also be expected to

demonstrate mastery in other capacities such as innovative thinking, entrepreneurship, and design. These expectations stem

from the secondcore value that skilled economic producers generate more economic and civic capital than that generated by

    purely economic consumers.

Through the engagement of industry partners and the planning and execution of projects focused upon real-life applications,

students will be exposed to work roles and opportunities that await them once their formal education is completed. They will

be given the chance to explore their various passions and interests and apply them in fields of study to which they are innately

drawn and inclined. These learning experiences are intensified and heightened by leveraging cloud-based software augmented

by on-site instruction from this generations best teachers. Progress and achievement are measured in near-real time, and

teachers stand at the ready to encourage and remedy as needed.

When compared to traditional school environments, NHS offers an exciting and engaging new education paradigm. The school

facilities will be designed to maximize student collaboration and interaction. Curriculum content will be justified and validated

by making direct connections with real world applications, helping the student understand earlier in their education sojourn

how and why the subject matter is valuable, interesting, and important. Technology will reduce the dependence upon static

textbooks. Energy and effort historically invested toward behavior monitoring/correction and maintaining order will be re-

channeled to engage young people into heightened levels of participation. School schedules will incorporate an elevated levelof flexibility, including extended-day and extended-year options based upon student-led project modules and schedule

demands. This emerging school paradigm is taking hold in districts across the country, and NHS aims to bring this innovative

and proven initiative to South Carolina.

NHS was largely inspired by a school in Fresno, California. Known as the Center for Advanced Research and

Technology (CART), the CART school has experienced tremendous success by incorporating industry

standard, project-based learning at the very core of its teaching model. In fact, the James Irvine

Foundation published a 7-year study of CART graduates and has catalogued performance improvement in

every important educational metric. NHS intends to become a sister school of CART, adopt CARTs best

practices, and leverage CARTs willingness to partner with NHS to provide innovative guidance based upon

    CARTs history and experience.

Much like CART students, NHS students will be expected to choose and pursue projects of their interest while meeting key

educational milestones as they work on project deliverables. Students are assigned workspaces and provided desks, tablet

computers, and access to a wide range of industry software and tools. Every student has 24/7 access to coursework, project

    space, and teacher interaction.

Next High School, its stakeholders, and its supporters espouse a singular mission and goal: We exist to prepare young people

for life after school. By actively and enthusiastically engaging our students, NHS believes it can establish and operate an

educational model that elevates the South Carolina and Upstate economies. This free public high school is not simply

something different; it is something better.

Next High School is currently accepting enrollment for freshmen and sophomores for the 2015 school year. NHS encourages allyoung people interested to apply as there is noadmission requirement.

Location: (Current Address): 3309 Laurens Rd, Greenville, SC 29607

Next High Schools campus will be located in the geographic center of

    Greenville County.

NHS will seek to be an iconic, historic, state-of-the-art facility that attracts the

best and the brightest and brings the right type of recognition to the Upstate

region and South Carolina. Through this effort, NHS will augment existing civic,

economic, and educational initiatives currently advancing Greenvilles worthy

reputation as a vibrant, innovative, and international community. NHS will

participate in this effort not only through its graduates, but also by its ability

to attract top tier talent to the region because of this revolutionary

educational institution and learning platform. Historically, education levels have provided the best correlation to economic

prosperity within geographic area. Next High School is designed immediately within its first years of existence to improve

education outcomes by better aligning lifeand schoolfor thousands of young people within South Carolina.

LEARNING COMMUNITIES (SCHOOLS) NAMING SPONSORSHIP RIGHTS

________ School of Mobility; ________ School of Technology; ________ School of Life Sciences; ________ School of Energy

Investment Level: $75,000 annually for 5 Years

Designed around the Greenville Economic Scorecard study sponsored by the Greenville Chambers Accelerate! initiative and in

alignment with New Carolinas report on industry clusters within South Carolina, Next High School has created 4 dedicated

learning communities (schools). By the time a student graduates, he/she will be exposed to and engaged in each of the 4

schools, in addition to declaring by their senior year one school as their home school. The diploma awarded each student will

identify both Next High School and the learning community from which the student graduated. Each school is primarily focused

upon a specific industry sector within our regional economy that is forecast to grow at an elevated pace and provide amplecareer opportunities for appropriately credentialed high school and college graduates. In much the same way that college

alumni refer to their major or the specific college within the university from which they graduated, we envision the day when

students refer to their learning community school as [Investor] School of[Cluster] rather than simply stating that they attend,

    or attended, Next High School.

School of Mobilityis dedicated to the aerospace, automotive, and logistic/supply chain industries.

School of Technologyis dedicated to the hardware, software, media, and digital development and delivery industries.

    INSTRUCTOR SPONSORED CHAIRS

    _______ Chair of [Specialty Area]

Investment Level: $50,000 annually for 5 years

As shown above, the Next High School learning

environment is radically different from most

    traditional school facilities.

Additionally, Next High School will operate a

unique instructor model that exposes studentsto a diverse contingent of industry experts that

serve in a wide range of nontraditional

capacities. In order to deliver this model

    effectively, NHS is seeking sponsored

    investments for the following Instructor

    Chairpersonships.

These chair positions are in addition to the staff

instructor positions and will only be filled after

the investment commitment has been received from the sponsor.

Only high-integrity, passionate, and innovative candidates will be considered for the following specialty areas throughout NHS

nationwide search for each position. Each Chair of [Specialty Area] will be selected by the NHS Executive Team (with

concurrence from sponsor) and current NHS staff from a list of qualified sponsor-proposed nominees. South Carolina teaching

license credentials will be preferred, but may not be necessary with provisional licensing procedures. Chair positions sponsored

by corporations may rotate through a team or select group of individuals who sequentially serve in the role of instructor

chair over the course of the 5 year commitment.

Each sponsored instructor will be expected to utilize, promote, and coordinate with the sponsor while serving in the chair

position. Any published materials, speaking engagements, grants, or other efforts will include mention and promotion of the

chair sponsor investor. Sponsors will be included in all NHS signage for all special and public events for the duration of the

    sponsorship period.

    FACILITY SPACE INVESTMENT

Next High School is designed around open and flexible spaces that are ideal for project-based learning.

Imagine attending school in an open-format environment in which students are assigned workstations rather than lockers, a

creative setting of laboratories, work cells, studios, and collaboration spaces rather than cubic classrooms with rows of desks.

Imagine a space designed for the randomness of trial and error, experimental learning rather than sterile, cinderblock, white-

washed walls. This is the DNA of Next High Schoolsrevolutionary design space and the essence of project-based learning and

    emerging third teacherenvironments.

The following page contains some representative graphical renderings that represent our vision of the NHS facility concepts

that can be realized in the first five (5) years of operation. These drawings are conceptual at this point, but our strategy is to

collaborate with our investor partners to transform these concepts into blueprints and bricks.

Investors are eligible for discounted office, workstation, and facility usage rates. Investors contributing $15,000 annually will be

recognized on all signage and collateral at NHS public events. Multiple investors (up to 3 max.) are allowed to combine theirindividual investments to secure the naming rights to any facility element eligible for financial sponsorship.

matter of first order, NHS will apply for participation in the Federal Planning & Implementation Grant program managed by the

South Carolina Department of Education with an anticipated award of approximately $400K to be distributed across the course

of 3 years. This grant funding would be used to cover the General Fund budget schedule defined above.

In summary, NHS will seek a total initial community investment of $18 Million among all corporate and private investors, public

funding, and, grant opportunities in order to be fully cash flow positive by 2020. At that point, Next High School will most likely

initiate specialized, dedicated investment campaigns to sustain the level of financial resources necessary to extend the
