HighWater’s testing experience shows:(over 30 laptops)

• There is wide variability in how each burning Personal Electronic Device “behaves”

• Translated, this means “unpredictable”

• And “unpredictable” translates to “unsafe”

Easy and simple to use

Eliminates the uncertainty by the flight crew whether the PED fire is out

Minimizes the time the flight crew is in contact with the burning PED

Completely and safely contains: Fire Heat Toxic organic vapors Smoke from burning plastic Unpleasant odors Noise Panic

No flight diversion is necessary

3. Using the OPEN scoop as a shield, approach the burning PED4. Close and cover the computer with the SCOOP 5. Slide SCOOP bottom under burning PED6. PED is captured in the SCOOP without touching the device

Our testing has shown that the FAA method (AC120-80) of extinguishing a burning PED will work –

eventually

(Given enough time and liquid)

• How much water is enough? This uncertainty creates an unsafe situation!!!!

• The flight crew cannot “look” at a PED and determine if the thermal runaway condition is stopped.

• Our testing experience shows a wide variability in how each individual burning PED “behaves”. The flight crew cannot predict this situation.

But: TIME is critical!!!

• The FAA procedure DOES NOT address containment or neutralization of the toxic organic vapors emitted from a burning PED.

• Lithium Ion Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) shows contact with these vapors can cause irritation to eyes, skin, mucous membranes.

• The odor associated with these vapors is very pungent and noxious.

• PLUS – these vapors are highly flammable and can be ignited by a variety of sources around the burning PED.

PLUS: And just as significant:

Excerpts from an actual Lithium Ion Battery Material Safety Data Sheet:

ACUTE Exposure: Electrolyte may irritate skin and eyes.

Avoid contact with skin or mucous membranes

No other containment case or device on the market allows you to:

• Retrieve the burning PED

• Minimize the flight crew contact with the burning PED

• Handle each incident in a safe, predictable, and repeatable procedure

• Isolate and contain the burning PED

• Extinguish the fire and thermal runaway inside the case

• Eliminate flames, heat, toxic fumes, smoke, noxious odor, noise, panicked passengers

• Eliminate the need to divert the flight
