Welcome to London: Battle in the Capital 2019We would like to welcome you to our 3rd annual Battle in the Capital tournament, one of Europe’s most exciting U14 and U16 Boys & Girls Christmas tournaments. This annual event in London, England is for club teams from across Europe that seek intense competition in one of the world’s most incredible cities, where players will have the opportunity to compete against high-level European opposition in a state of the art basketball facility, as well as exploring Britain’s lively and historic capital.

Previous tournaments have featured European clubs including FC Barcelona, Apollo Amsterdam, SKM Vilnius (Lithuania), Flashing Heiloo (Netherlands) and BBC Jeugd Gentson (Belgium), as well as Britain’s top teams such as London Youngbloods Lions, Manchester Magic, Sussex Storm and many more.

The tournament gives teams, players and coaches the opportunity to:

• Compete against high-level European opposition

• Network and build relationships with other players and coaches

• Build team unity and togetherness

• Play in a state of the art facility

• Visit one of the most historic and exciting cities in the world

Tournament LocationLondon is the home of British basketball, where raw talent and ability is mixed with work ethic, toughness and heart to produce some of the country’s most elite young players.

London has some incredibly good athletes with the burning desire to compete and win - any games against teams from London are a battle as they are unafraid to scrap and fight their way to victory, hence the tournament’s title of “Battle in the Capital!”

The Battle in the Capital allows players and coaches to take part in exciting competition between European and UK teams, network with like-minded individuals from across Europe and enjoy the excitement of this unique tournament in one of the greatest cities in the world.

The tournament play takes place at one of Britain’s finest sports facilities, the University of East London. UEL’s £21 million sports dock, which was opened in 2012, has two huge indoor arenas where the tournament action will unfold.

The tournament features U16 Boys, U16 Girls and U14 Boys categories, all of which include both European and UK clubs. The games are spread over the course of 2 days, with pool play on Day 1 (28th Dec) and playoff & championship action on Day 2 (29th Dec).

The Boys U14 and Boys U16 groups feature 12 teams split into 3 pools respectively, while the Girls U16 group features 8 teams split into 2 pools. All teams are guaranteed at least 4 games over the course of the 2-day tournament.

Accommodation, Dining & Transport Option A - The Hampton By Hilton Docklands (3*)

Located near to the ExCel exhibition centre and a short distance from the tournament venue, the hotel has excellent transport links to central London. It is stylish with modern rooms featuring queen beds and walk-in showers. The facilities include a continental and English breakfast buffet area and a modern bar and lobby area.

Dining - Breakfast will be provided by the hotel, lunch by the UEL SportsDock and evening meals by the hotel or local restaurants.

Transport - During the tournament you will be transported between the hotel and the arena via transit buses that will allow teams to relax and prepare for each game at the hotel and arrive at the arena in a timely manner. We can arrange transfers from the airport or station to the hotel by coach or public transport.

Supporters Package - Battle in the Capital offers supporters’ packages for friends and family who wish to join the team on their London experience, and supporters will stay in the same location as their team (subject to hotel availability).

Option C - The IBIS Styles Excel (3*)

The hotel is in the Docklands area of London (opposite the ExCeL exhibition centre) and is a short distance from the tournament venue with excellent transport links to central London. It is a modern hotel with great facilities including a continental and English breakfast buffet restaurant, an all-day café and an on-site pub.

Option B - Holiday Inn Express (3*)

The hotel has modern spacious rooms with air-conditioning, equipped with tea & coffee makers, an iron & ironing board, hair dryer and toiletries. The en-suite rainfall shower offers visitors an invigorating experience, and some of the rooms offer spectacular views across London City Airport or overlooking the city.

ExcursionsThe hustle and bustle of Britain’s capital city is the perfect location for a high-level tournament, where teams will benefit from not only the amazing on-court action, but will have the chance to have a complete cultural experience.

Visiting teams will reside close to the heart of the city, home to some of Britain’s most incredible landmarks. Teams will visit the centre of London and can get up close and personal with Big Ben, take in the incredible views of the city from the London Eye, stroll through Covent Garden and enjoy the grandeur of Trafalgar Square.

Some of London’s most famous landmarks and attractions that you can visit include:

• The South Bank: a hub of cultural and dining experiences on the River Thames

• London Eye: a giant ferris wheel offering incredible views of the capital city

• Big Ben: the Houses of Parliament’s famous clock tower, built in 1859

• Buckingham Palace: the glamorous residence of Queen Elizabeth II, attracting hundreds of thousands of tourists each year

• St. Paul’s Cathedral: a magnificent baroque church, designed in 1673 and built at the highest point of the city

• Covent Garden and Leicester Square: the bustling centre of London’s nightlife with restaurants, theatres and other entertainment options

All-inclusive foreign team tournament package cost for players / coaches and supporters: Option A: Hampton by Hilton €285, Option B: Holiday Inn Express €285, Option C: IBIS Styles €265

Early bird special cost if deposit paid before 31st May: Option A: Hampton by Hilton €265, Option B: Holiday Inn Express €265, Option C: IBIS Styles €245

Deposit of €75 euros per person when booking and full balance by 31st October 2019.
