Key Speakers:

Cathy Tuttle, Executive Director, Seattle Greenways Cathy builds relationships between city government officials, nonprofits, and Seattle Neighborhood Greenway’s extensive coalition of volunteers in order to plan, advocate, and activate a safe and comfortable street network for all. She is a thought leader in safe streets and has published papers on bicycle and pedestrian design and safety issues. Cathy has a Ph.D. in Urban Design and Planning from the University of Washington and a certificate from Portland State University in Bicycle Facilities Planning and Design. Cathy received the highest individual award from Sustainable Seattle in 2011 and the Sustainable PATH Foundation Pathbreaker Award in 2012. Since 2012, Cathy has served on the Seattle Mayor’s School Road Safety Task Force and Seattle Public Schools Traffic Safety

Committee. In 2007, Cathy started Cascade Bicycle Club’s first “easy” ride series, Spokespeople Rides. Cathy is a ride leader, and since 2007 has trained over 20 ride leaders who develop monthly, “easy”, all ages and abilities bicycle rides. Robert L. Chapman, III, Founder of Traditional Neighborhood Development Partners, LLC Robert L. Chapman, III is founder and managing director of Traditional Neighborhood Development Partners, LLC, of Durham, NC, which develops walkable mixed-use neighborhoods. He is the founder of Cygnex, LLC, a Winter Haven, FL private investment fund. He is also the founder of TND Capital Management, LLC, which acquires/redevelops downtown properties. He also founded the Southlake Development Group and Southlake Utilities, Inc., Clermont, FL. Southlake is a walkable new-urbanist development approved for 8,000 housing units, located three miles west of Walt Disney World. Bob has served as chair of the North Carolina Smart Growth Alliance; and, chair and founding member, National Town Builders Association. He received a B.A. from Duke University in 1971. He has been a guest lecturer at the Fuqua School of Business and the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke and at the Kenan-Flagler Business School and the Department of City and Regional Planning at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a founding member of the advisory board for the program in Real Estate Development and Urbanism at the University of Miami and a member of the city advisory board of Mechanics and Farmers Bank, Durham, NC.

John D. Simmerman, MS - President & CEO, Advocates for Healthy Communities, Inc. John has over 25 years of experience in disease prevention and health promotion. For the first 15 years in his career Mr. Simmerman worked primarily with larger, self insured companies by helping them to decrease employee health care costs and utilization rates through the implementation of effective health promotion programs. Then Mr. Simmerman turned his attention and efforts to the community level, specifically the built environment and its impact on quality of life and public health. He

co-founded Advocates for Healthy Communities, Inc. a nationally focused 501(c)(3). It’s mission is to help create communities with inviting and invigorating environments which encourage healthy, active lifestyles. He has a Master’s of Science from the University of Michigan - a joint degree program between Kinesiology, Public Health & Business Schools, and a Bachelors of Science - Exercise Science (Kinesiology) from the University of Southern California.
