Happy February!
J ust a quick reminder the students have two days off this month: Friday, February 8th and Monday, February
18th. Conference night is February 7th, and we will have a General PTSA meeting at 4:40pm in the cafeteria
prior to conferences open to all parents! We will be discussing and voting on the budget update, and it will
coincide with the teacher appreciation conference night dinner. We will also be having a clearance sale on Randall
t-shirts outside the cafeteria in the bus parking lot, so even if you aren’t coming to conferences, you can just
swing in and grab a few extra shirts! We will have this year’s shirt as well as several “retro” shirts from past years.
All shirts will be $5 and sizes are “first come, first served” from 5-6:30pm.
Thanks to your amazing fundraising efforts, and several major sponsor donations, we were able to give out over
$10,000 in teacher grants! Some items included: flexible seating for classrooms, white boards, kindle e-readers
(not every kid has a cell phone), and many more items to enhance student learning. The teachers are incredibly
grateful for your support!
Our biggest program of the year has kicked off, our student and teacher photography contest. Please see info
below, and on next page. Each student can submit 2 photos. The deadline for photos has changed to February
15th. The photos will be displayed in front of Art Monkey at the Fishhawk Sunday Market on March 3rd from 9am
-2pm. Everyone who comes out will have a chance to vote for “people’s choice” award. I love this event, because
the Randall students get to show off their talents to the community, not just our Randall family.
Friday, March 8th will be the 6/7th grade party after school. This year’s theme will be decided at the next SGA
meeting. We really wanted to involve the students this year so that they have a sense they truly are part of the
PTSA.
Have a great month,

Limo Lunch at Cherry’s
T he PTSA was excited to have had 34 students attend the Cherry’s Limousine Luncheon. These stu-
dents sold 15 or more items for our Fall PTSA fundraiser and as a result, we are able to grant teacher
grants, funding for the 6, 7, 8th grade dances and campus safety and beautifcian initiatives. They were
able to ride in style and have a fun lunch at Cherry’s! We are grateful for all their entrepreneur efforts.
USA Break Dancers
F or the top earners who sold 5 or more items for our Fall fundraiser, 85 students were invited to at-
tend a break dance demonstration by USA Break dancers. An interactive fun time was had by all!
Strawberry Sales!
T hanks to everyone who participated in our first-time strawberry fundraiser! The fundraiser supports both the PTSA and
local farmers. Partnering with a fourth-generation local farmer, Wish Farms located in Plant City, the PTSA are able to
bring you farm-to-table same day strawberries! The homeroom with leading sales will have a homeroom strawberry short-
cake party! Pick up date is slated for the week after President’s weekend. We are “berry” grateful for all those who support-
ed the sale!
T hanks to all the families who supported our Spirit Nights so far. Taco Yolo
has graciously matched the proceeds from our last spirit night , and this
brings our total earnings to $588.50! This is a fantastic help to our PTSA, and
we are so happy to support our local businesses.
Our next Spirit Night is Wednesday, February 13th at Fishhawk Pizza. Remem-
ber to mention Randall Middle School as a percentage will be donated back to
our PTSA to help support our school, students and staff/teachers that do so
much.
Thanks for your support!!

A huge congratulations to Mrs. Tucy, Ms.
Lopez, and Mrs. Billups on their awards!
Mrs. Tucy was voted Randall’s Teacher of the
Year, Mrs. Billups won the Ida S. Baker award,
and Ms. Lopez was awarded Randall’s Non-

the hard work of these deserving award win-
ners! Thank you all for putting our students first.
Student and Staff Recognition
T hank you to the Newsome JROTC students and all the veterans
from our Randall/Newsome family and beyond! We held a Vet-
eran’s Day Memorial to honor all those who have bravely fought and
served our country, and the Newsome JROTC was kind enough to
come to our school and perform a flag ceremony. Fishhawk has a
deep connection to the military in our community, and we are grate-
ful and thankful to our veterans. Our JROTC students at Newsome’s
ROTC program are special indeed, and we are so proud of them.
Thank you for bringing this memorial to Randall!

T he media center is one happening place! Every day the computer labs are booked for teacher instruction
and book checkout is at a high! The media lunch crew is staying busy. There is always lots to do! What is
coming up?? THE BOOK FAIR!!!
Book Fair is next week!! Wooohoo! We will be open from Monday through Thursday starting at 9:00am and
closing at 4:30pm. We will also be open on conference night for your convenience!! Do you want to set up an
e-wallet for your child? An e-wallet is an electronic wallet that a parent can set up for his/her student. In doing
this, the student doesn’t have to bring any money to school. They just give their name and we can look up how
much the parent has approved as the maximum amount! Then the parent is only charged for the amount of
the purchase! How easy is that! Follow the link below for e-wallet setup or to shop the book fair online. If you
purchase online, it can be delivered to the school with no additional shipping fees.

Counselor’s Corner Melissa Miller 6th Grade Counselor
Here is the important information for you to be aware of in February:
1. Please be sure you’re regularly checking both the student’s Edsby account as well as the parent’s account because there is
different information on each of them. Keep in touch with teachers via email in order to ensure your children are doing well.
More information can be found at mySPOT at myspot.sdhc.k12.fl.us
2. Students have three opportunities each semester to pass their classes. They need to earn at least two points (three for high
school credit classes) each semester for each core class which includes 1st quarter, 2nd quarter and the semester exam. An A is
worth 4 points, a B is 3 points, a C is 2 points, a D is 1 point and an F is 0 points. Of course, it’s best to earn at least A’s and B’s
in high school credit classes in order to keep that GPA up.
3. Randall’s Kindness Club “Start With Hello” has meetings on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays in Room 130 (chorus room) from 8:30
to 9:15. If you have a Kindness Club t-shirt, be sure to wear it on these club days. Applications can be gotten from Ms. Kirby,
6th grade History and Reading teacher, in room 501 or from Ms. Miller, 6th grade Counselor, in the guidance office. There is a
$20 fee which includes a t-shirt although there’s only a limited number left, and those payments should be given to Ms. Kirby
in room 501. Students can also sign up on Edsby to be a part of this group and get important information. Look for activities
and information on our bulletin board outside of the art room near the media center! The club members did community ser-
vice all around the school for MLK Day, and they’ve been spreading the kindness by performing random acts of kindness. : )
4. Programming was done by Ms Miller, 6th grade Counselor, and Ms Roberts, 7th grade Counselor, during the last week of Janu-
ary. The 6th and 7th graders were given papers for them to pick their top 4 choices of electives for next school year, and appli-
cations were given to those who wanted to do Yearbook/Journalism and/or AVID. The elective sheets are due to their social
studies teacher by 2/4 (with parent signature on it), and the applications are due to the guidance office 2/7. If they miss
those deadlines, they will be given whatever electives have seats left. If you have questions, please email Ms Miller or Ms Rob-
erts depending on what grade level your child is.
5. Conference Night is on 2/7 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, so please meet with teachers if your child is having difficulties.
6. There will no school on 2/8 for Fair Day or 2/18 for President’s Day or on 3/4 for Strawberry Festival, so enjoy your time off! : )
7. You can keep up on the happenings at Randall through parent links that are sent out at least weekly by Ms. Mawhinney, the
principal, but you need to have a current email address in our computer system. You can also get lots of information through
this newsletter and through Edsby and through our school’s website at randall.mysdhc.org and on our electronic marquee in
the front of the school.
8. Ms. Miller is the 6th grade counselor and can be reached at [email protected] or at 740-3900 x255. Ms. Roberts is
the 7th grade counselor and can be reached at [email protected] or at 740-3900 x233. Ms. Richards is the 8th
grade counselor and can be reached at [email protected] or at 740-3900 x231. Email is probably the easiest way
to reach the counselors since they are in and out of their offices frequently. In the guidance office we also have Ms. Hutchings,
the Literacy Coach, and she can be reached at [email protected] or at 740-3900 x234. Our Military Family Life
Counselor is Ms. Alsing, and she’s at Randall Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. She can be reached at
[email protected] or at 740-3900 x235. Our psychologist is Ms. Porto, and she’s at Randall on Mondays,
Tuesdays and Wednesdays. She can be reached at [email protected] or at 740-3900 x236. Our social worker is Ms.
Jahnke, and she’s at Randall on Mondays and Wednesdays. She can be reached at [email protected] or at 740-3900
x236. Our bilingual paraprofessional is Ms. Rodriguez, and she’s at Randall on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesday mornings.
She can be reached at [email protected] or at 740-3900 x244
