Chris Reed, NCM Master Ambassador

Anyone attending the Anniversary Celebration at the NCM and planning to leave on Thursday morning is

welcome to join Doug and me for the trip to Bowling Green. We will meet at the Hardee's at Rte. 92 and

I-75 and leave there at 8:00 am.

There are several ways to support the National Corvette Museum: make an annual gift, become a member;

purchase a raffle ticket and volunteer. Take time to check out the following link for ideas and reasons for

supporting the museum. www.corvettemuseum.org/support

Another very easy way to donate to NCM for all the Amazon.com users in the club……..

If you shop at Amazon.com, did you know that you can designate the NCM to receive a percentage of your

purchases as a charitable donation? The program is called “Amazon Smile”, and it’s simple. Before you

shop, rather than logging in to amazon.com, simply log in to smile.amazon.com. Your username/password is

the same either way. Then after designating the NCM (“National Corvette Museum Foundation Inc.”) as

your charitable organization choice, all purchases thereafter will automatically generate a donation from

Amazon to the NCM. Simple, eh?

Ready for your Corvette!

2016 VetteStock Corvette Show a Huge

Success! By Chris Reed

ur “VetteStock 2016” show turned out to be a huge success with over 100 Corvettes

turning out for this once a year event that benefits the National Corvette Museum. Of these, 82 Corvettes were

registered for the event. In addition, we had a couple of donations from some that attended but did not wish to

enter their cars in the show.

The weather was beautiful, but a little hot and humid. This didn’t stop several of

the area groups and clubs from attending this show. Also, thanks to a number of

volunteers from Classic Glass, everything ran very smoothly and on a timely basis. A

big THANK YOU has to go out to all that helped to make this event a success!!

20 of the beautiful Corvettes earned trophies and one

car, a 1966 Trophy Blue roadster with a white convertible top, belonging to

Gary Hartter, earned the “Miller’s Choice” trophy. This award was selected by

the manager and some of the staff of Miller’s Ale House.

The National Corvette Museum Store was on hand with all of their goodies

and many took advantage of being able to buy some of the merchandise that is only available from the museum. Our

thanks go out to Gary Cockriel and his cousin Ray for making the trip down here from Bowling Green.

Classic Glass Corvette Club Memories

Tonie and Carl Etter

Recently Carl came across this picture and we thought we would share it with the club. This is how the early CGCC members shared an event. They would plan a trip to Florida and travel by motor home so they could all ride together to swap stories on the ride down and back. This group was able to meet, have lunch and chat with the early engineer, Zora Duntov, chief engineer of the C1 Corvette and Larry Shinoda, automotive designer of the Sting Ray in 1963. Zora became director of high performance at Chevrolet and helped to transform the 1955 Corvette with a V-8 engine to increase power.

Front row from left to right: David Bachman, Zora Duntov, Neal Bledsoe, Marion Blackman and Larry Shinoda. Back row from left to right: Andy Jordon, George Chapman and Carl Etter.

The picture was taken in January 1984 at the Florida NCRS Winter Meet in Cyprus Gardens, Florida.

Classic Glass Corvette Club General Meeting August 9, 2016

President Tonie Etter called the meeting to order at 7:30pm. She welcomed everyone and stated that she was glad to see everyone, especially those who may not have been at the July meeting. She also extended a heartfelt Thank You to the many charitable organizations that attended the meeting to receive our donations for 2016. She then thanked the wait staff and asked for a round of applause from the members in acknowledgement of the hard work they do for us each month.

The charities in attendance were brought up individually and the representative(s) from each organization gave a brief synopsis of their membership and goals. They described how the funds we were providing would benefit those in need. After each group presented information about their organization, Calvin captured a picture of Tonie presenting them with the funds. Smiles were not lacking.

The organizations in attendance were: >Cops and Kids – Bob Pierce and Grant Foster received a $500 donation >Curing Kids Cancer – Mikaela Hopkins and Grainne Owens received a $500 donation >Patriot Guard Riders – Darryl Gunter and Tom Walsh received a $200 donation >Police Athletic League – Lt. Michael Goins received a $1,200 donation >Scout Troop 639 – David Parker and Justin Hedrick received a $500 donation >Wreaths Across America – Tom Wilder received a $300 donation >Pennies with Purpose – Joanne McGarry and Val Cato received a $300 donation >Simple Needs – Greg Brooks accepted a check for $400 on behalf of his wife Rita who was unable to attend

Some groups left the meeting once this portion was done; and when the Police exited, they received a standing ovation for their service and attendance.

Tonie reminded the members that they are welcome to attend any Board of Directors meeting which is held the first Tuesday of each month at 7pm (unless otherwise communicated). She then discussed the proposed Club Constitution and By-Laws changes and amendments. The proposed changes were individually introduced and a discussion limited to 10 minutes could be held by any interested member. Upon completion of the discussions, the membership was polled on accepting the change. 82 members were present at the meeting; 61 votes were needed for an amendment to pass; this number is the required 75% quorum.

1956 Corvette Donated E-News August 4, 2016

Last week, the museum welcomed a 1956 former drag racing Corvette to our collection. Donated by Terral and the late Swana Wittgow of Stanton, NE, the car's owner says he hopes it will be a way to carry on their name. “I always thought I would turn 65, retire, and become 16 years old again and get it out. But that didn’t happen,” shared Terral. Like most owners, he didn’t want to try and sell it locally. “I couldn’t bring myself to let some kid just destroy my childhood and college days’ memories. So just by chance last fall I emailed the National Corvette Museum and they voiced interest in adding it to their collection.

I just assumed you owned two or three of each year.” The car is the first 1956 owned by the Museum.

I was more than happy to donate it to the Museum because I didn’t have to try to get it running again, or spend any time on it. I’m 73, so just a little too old to be crawling around pulling engines. I thought I’ll just have a little bit of

immortality and donate it to the Museum, and someone who knows us some day may go through and see that we donated it to the Museum. That means a lot more to me than money. My wife, Swana felt the same way. We’re just

average people. It’s a way to keep your name going on.”

Terral and Swana’s donation now resides in the Museum’s Maintenance and Preservation Department where Daniel Decker is working to get the car up and running again, and getting it cleaned and display ready on the inside and out.

Once complete the car will rotate in and out of display within the Museum’s Performance area.

You can read more about Terral's story and the 1956 here. Thank you to Terral and Swana Wittgow for your generosity and efforts in preserving the history of America’s Sports Car! If you have a Corvette that needs a loving

new home please contact Connie Russell at 270-467-8815.

An open letter to Police Officers (Courtesy of Wayne Ray)

Dear Officer, I want you to know that I see you. I see you choose the booth in the restaurant that allows you to have your back against the wall. I see you walking to your next traffic stop while you hope that it isn’t your last. I see you pulled over, two hours past your shift, as you finish your reports under a street light. I see you as you direct traffic in the scorching heat, the gusting snow, and the downpour of rain. I see you being filmed every time you try to do your job. I see you as you watch mainstream media crucify your character while minimizing your cause. I see that you are hurting as the world watches you bury your brothers and sisters that died because they were guilty of one thing: wearing a uniform and a badge. I see you. I see that you are flesh and bones just like me. I see that you are a human being who has a heart that beats for your calling to serve and protect. I see your cause and I want you to know that I appreciate it.

The rumor mill has been churning out a lot of information lately about the mid-engine, C8 Zora Corvette. While we expect it to have more power than the current gaggle of ‘Vettes currently available, we aren’t sure what will actually power the new car. A new rumor might give us an answer, though.

Our friend Patrick at Torque News believes the new Zora could be powered by a 750-horsepower V8, named LT5. That would be a 100-horsepower increase over the current Z06 powered by the supercharged LT4. If true, it’d also be the most powerful American production car of all time.

Nobody can argue 750 horsepower isn’t a lot of horsepower, but because we don’t know how much power the Corvette ZR1 is going to make, it’s hard to say if the rumored LT5 is destined for the Zora. We do strongly believe that for GM to get more performance out of the Corvette, it’d have to go mid-engine.

What do you think? Will the Zora, especially the high-end version, receive an all-new engine cranking out more power than any other American car to date, or is this just a rumor without merit?

Join the discussion with the other mid-engine Corvette fans over in our forums!

For Sale: 1970 Big Block C3 Convertible

Detail of the restoration: The car is everything you would expect in a professional frame off except the body was never removed from the frame. Everyone knows if it had been removed, the price would be at least 25 percent more, but I can’t even find a

frame off 70 convertible big block on the internet.

Replaced items: heater core, wiring harness, gas tank, exhaust system , control arm, bushings , valve covers, alternator, seat covers , floor mats, interior carpeting , ball joints, shocks, tie rod, idler arm, manual window regulator gears, manual window regulator crank shaft, convertible soft top, deck lid cables, hood cables and brackets , power steering hoses, power brake hoses, brake pads, brake calipers , power steering valve, power steering pump, door handles, gas door emblem (100 % correct) floor pan

plugs, wiper actuator, seals and rubber weather strip, headlight door control actuators (left and right) vacuum hoses, spark plug wires.

Rebuilt items; original AM/FM radio, all gauge clusters to include tack / odometer / fuel / temp / battery / oil pressure and clock. Radiator, original transmission, original rear end, master cylinder. Motor to include: rods, pistons, rings, crank bearings, rod bearings, lifers, valves, springs, timing chain, oil pump, and gaskets. Trailing arms.

Comments for the Corvette aficionado: headlight doors open and close simultaneously (no lazy eye), car doors close tight and lock properly. Windows roll up and down without a struggle. Door gaps are even. Wiper door pops open quickly. NO rust. The mileage was set to zero when gauges were restored and since restoration in 2011 there is approximately 1500 miles on vehicle. It stays covered in garage and is rarely driven and never driven in rain.

Paint classification: 1 being a 30 year un-restored barn find and 10 being a trailer queen. This car weighs in at 8.3. It has two unnoticeable hair line cracks, a stunning paint job.

Asking $48,500.00. Please call Warren @ 678. 776. 9399
