Event Highlights of the 31st Tokyo International Film Festival (October 25 – November 3)

Thank you for your interest in the 31st Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF). We will be celebrating the opening of 31st TIFF with our special guests from around the world. Today, we have attached the event information of some of the highlights from the 10-day event. Please see attached for more details to cover the events. The 31st TIFF to be held from October 25 to November 3, 2018 at Roppongi Hills, EX Theater Roppongi, Hibiya Step Square and other venues in Tokyo.

On October 25 (Thu), we will celebrate the opening of the 31st TIFF with special guests. TIFF will unroll the Red Carpet and welcome the special guests from all over the world. Details of the special guests for the opening events are listed on following page.

Our original co-production by Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) and the Japan Foundation Asia Center, the “Asian Three-Fold Mirror” brings together three directors from Asia to co-create omnibus films with a common theme. The second of the omnibus film series, Asian Three-Fold Mirror 2018: Journey is being directed by Asian filmmakers under the theme “Journey,” signifying traveling beyond time and space. The Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) will be highlighting the work of Masaaki Yuasa at the 31st TIFF’s Animation Focus. In addition to English-subtitled screenings, the section will also feature talk sessions with the director. The expected guests will be announced at the guest appearance list page of our official website (https://2018.tiff-jp.net/en/guest/). On Sunday, October 28, Yuasa will appear for a talk session after screening of Lu Over the Wall, his first original theatrical work which won the Cristal for a Feature Film (Grand Prix) at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival 2017. He will also talk about the upcoming project. We cordially invite the accredited press members to attend this event.

We are pleased to announce details of the 31st TIFF Award Ceremony followed by the Tokyo Grand Prix Winning Film Screening , and Jury and Award Winners Press Conference will which be held on Friday, November 2. The press members who wish to cover the events, please submit the attached pre-application form by Thursday , November 1, at 12:00 pm noon (Japan Time) . Events on November 2 (Fri)

Confirmations and Requirements : - Shooting position for Television and Web Movie Crews, priority will be given to ENG crew members from key

local stations. Others will be determined on a first-come, first-served basis. *Audio feeds are available. - Shooting position for Photographers will be determined on a first-come, first-served basis. - Due to limited space, not all requests can be met. - Entry and exit are not allowed after the event starts at 3:00pm. - All members of the media covering the closing ceremony must be properly attired. Jackets are required for

＃7 October 19, 2018 As the final event to close our 31st Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF), Closing Screening Event featuring this year’s closing film, GODZILLA: The Planet Eater, will be held at the Tokyo International Forum on Saturday November 3. 31st TIFF Ambassador, Mayu Matsuoka and the directors and stars of GODZILLA: The Planet Eater will come up on the stage. We welcome all press members to conclude the ten-days festival with us. World Premier

Closing Film: GODZILLA: The Planet Eater [2018/Japan/91min]

The concluding chapter of the landmark animated “GODZILLA” film series finds mankind battling for survival on Earth 20,000 years into the future. GODZILLA: Planet of the Monsters was the first full-length, 3DCG animated feature film from the "GODZILLA" franchise. It was followed by GODZILLA: City on the Edge of Battle, featuring an all-new Mechagodzilla. The trilogy concludes with GODZILLA: The Planet Eater with the victorious Godzilla Earth as undisputed ruler of all living things, ready to clash with the destroyer of worlds, King Ghidorah.
