Principal’s Note Early Dismissal end of term Just a reminder that students will be dismissed at 2.30pm on Friday 20th September – last day of Term 3. We look forward to having all our students back on Monday 7th October. Happy Holidays Thank you to the school community for the terrific support throughout Term 3. It has been a productive, hard working term for the staff and students and numerous special events have added much excitement and special memories. I would especially like to thank the staff who have been wonderful and have worked hard to deliver quality class programs. I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday period and am looking forward to sharing the stories and experiences with students after the break. We are looking forward to having everyone back on Monday 7th October for the commencement of Term 4. Whole School and Graduation Photo Advanced Life will be returning to Preston West on Tuesday 8th October to take the whole school and Grade 6 Graduation photographs. Ordering details will be on Compass early next term. Bunning BBQ Thank you to our parents/carers who volunteered their time at the Bunnings BBQ on Sunday. A total of $2100 was raised on the day - a terrific effort. The majority of funds raised by the Parent’s Club in 2019 will be directed towards Fresh Fruit Friday. Special thanks to Kathryn Li for coordinating this fundraising endeavour. Footy Colours and Special Lunch Day It was terrific seeing the students today proudly displaying their colours and costumes of their favourite team, clubs and sports. Numerous engaging curriculum activities related to sport have been undertaken by the students throughout the day. Special thanks to the Marina Grapsas for organising today’s special lunch.
Day Light Savings In 2019 the daylight savings period will commence in Victoria on Sunday 6th October, where clocks will go forward one hour. Division Athletics Sports Last Thursday 23 students competed in the Division Athletics Carnival. All the students must be congratulated on their fabulous efforts on the day and also in reaching such a significant level of competition. Maya, Lily, Evie, Evia, Dash, Hannah, James Stefan, Kosta, Selesa, Sophia, Elias, Noah and Chayce will compete at Regional Athletics in October. The success is a testament to the quality of our Physical Education program that operates across the school. Thanks to Ainslee Watkins for coordinating our team, Marko Krsticevic for assisting on the day and all the parents who attended and encouraged our students to perform at their best.
Sunsmart September 1st – April 30th As a Sunsmart school, students are required to wear hats when outside regardless of the weather from September 1st until April 30th. Can parents/carers please ensure students have a school hat. They can be purchased at PSW Cambellfield or Online. Alternatively any navy blue bucket is suitable. Term 3 Achievements As we draw to a close at the end of Term 3, I am reflecting on some of the special moments that have occurred this term:
Very pleasing school results in the recently received Year 3 and 5 NAPLAN assessments.
High quality literacy and numeracy programs operating across the school which encourage and challenge students to achieve their full academic potential.
The engaging thematic units of work being conducted in the classrooms throughout the term and the highly popular weekly sessions with our specialist teachers (Art, Italian, Music and PE).
Extra-curricular activities offered at Preston West Primary in Term 3 including Choir, Rock bands and lunchtime clubs.
The manner in which the children have applied themselves to producing quality work, homework and projects throughout term 3 and the excellent standards of behaviour and work habits. I have been very impressed with the projects I have seen over the past fortnight.
Fantastic support from the parent community - Guided Reading in Prep and Grade 1/2, School Council, Fresh Fruit Friday, School Banking, excursions/sports day attendance and Parent’s Club activities e.g. Father’s Day stall and Bunnings BBQ.
The active participation and success of our students in district and beyond sporting events including Aussie Hoops, Division Track and Field Athletics, AFL and girls soccer teams.. The closely contested Preston West Year 4-6 Athletics Carnival and Grade 3 Sports Day and the great team spirit generated by the house concept.
Watching the students’ spirit of cooperation, fair play and team spirit when in the yard, classrooms and on excursions.
Delivery of a successful Before and After School Care Program which is held in high regard by those in attendance.
I look forward to the achievements and highlights we can produce together throughout Term 4. Next term is sure to be just as busy with the Preston West Art Show on Thursday 24th October, Grade 2 Swimming Program, Graduation, Prep and Year 7 Orientation to name some of the important happenings to occur.

JUNIOR SCHOOL COUNCIL
October 25th 2019 is National Bandanna Day. This is CanTeen's major
fundraising and awareness campaign for CanTeen Australia.
To help support this cause, the JSC will be selling bandannas at the
beginning of term 4. The bandannas come in a range of colours and
designs and are $5 each.
It would be great to see everyone wearing their bandannas on October 25th
to support young people and their families who have been affected by
cancer.
Thank you for your support!

2020 BYO iPad Program Information
Next term I will be hosting information sessions for parents that are interested in the BYO iPad Program. This information will be specifically relevant to this year’s Year 2 cohort as they enter Year 3 in 2020. The information session aims to help you understand the following things: - What the BYO iPad Program is. - How you can enrol your child into the program. - The prerequisites of the iPad Program. - How the devices will be used to assist your child in their learning. If you are interested in attending these sessions, please keep an eye on the school’s newsletter from the beginning of next term. Regards, Luke Begg Leading Teacher for eLearning
Before & After School Care Program
Dear Families
If you or anyone you know have spare or doubles of the Woolworths ‘Discovery Garden’ that you do not
want or need, it would be greatly appreciated if these could be donated to the Before & After School Care
Program, as we would love to get our garden up and running again to further the childrens learning on the
environment and sustainability. These would be a great addition to the program for all the children.
Thank you kindly,
BASCP Educators.

WELCOME TO PARENTS GROUP
FRESH FRUIT FRIDAY There will be no Fresh Fruit Friday tomorrow 20th September. Thank you to all the helpers this term. Fresh Fruit Friday will resume in Term 4 on Friday 11th October.
A BIG thank you to Kathryn, Maria, Jane, George, John, Dimitrios, Ross, Matt, Jake, Howard, David, Nin, Sarah, Bo & Anthony who had volunteered and assisted at the Bunnings BBQ last Sunday 15th September. These parents/carers were fantastic as they endured the 4 seasons in 1 day weather that is Melbourne. It was a great collective effort and all helped raised over $2000 for PWPS Fresh Fruit Friday Program. Thank you also to the families that came to support & bought some snags on the day. Well done!
SICK BAY BEDDING Our volunteer for Friday 20th September is Taria Siourthas.
