Miss Clarke-Form Teacher and Junior Journalism Leader

Q. What made you want to sign up for this job?

A. I used to love teaching in the UK, but after a while I wanted something new to try, a new country to go to. Luckily, I knew Mr Rocco, and he told me all about Malaysia. It sounded like an amazing school and country so I took the plunge!

Q. How long have you been teaching in this school?

A. I’ve been teaching here for two years.

Q. What is your favourite part of this job?

A. Working with children everyday, and watching them progress, mature and grow as individuals.

Miss Mika-Art Teacher

Q. How long have you been working here as an art teacher?

A. I’ve taught here for six years.

Q. What made you sign up for this job?

A. I loved teaching, especially art, and I did use to live and work in Malaysia.

Q. What is your favourite part of this job?

A. I’ve got so many, it’s hard to say! Well, I really like when students have lightbulb moments, when they suddenly have an idea and do it really well. I also like it when they try really hard.

Miss Jenny-Library Leader

A. I wanted to share my love for reading and inspire more children to enjoy books. The opportunity to work with so many different teachers and students from EYC to Year 6 excited me as well.

Q. How long have you been working here as the library leader?

A. This is my third year as teacher librarian at GIS. Before that I worked as a children’s librarian in the public library service in

Manchester, England. Ahead of that I was a primary school teacher and learning mentor.

Q. What is your favourite part of this job?

A. I love the variety of working in the library, every day is different. My favourite part of my job is reading stories to classes and when students come and tell me they really enjoyed a book I recommended to them. I also really enjoy choosing new books for the library.

Miss Kate- Music Teacher

Q. What made you sign up for this job?

A. I became a music teacher because I like children, education and music. So, putting these three things together could only have produced one positive result!

Endangered animals writing competition

I watched my family and home be destroyed.I saw tractors, bulldozers and spades come and cut down the trees and injure my family! My once green jungle was turning into a barren brown hilltop. People even came with weapons and hurt my family. A few days later I was saved by park rangers. The rangers took me and my remaining family far, far away from my beautiful, green home. I wondered where are we going? The journey was very tiring. The journey felt like days. Finally we reached a river. The people were talking loudly. One person said,”We have to cross the river.”

For some reason the people put chains around my feet. I felt sad. I missed my home! The rough water looked choppy. One of my family members went before me. I was scared. Next it was my turn. I did not just feel scared but I was also worried! I told myself that there was nothing to be worried about. I imagined what my new home would look like.Suddenly I felt a tug on my feet. The people were pulling me for some reason. They were heaving me onto the boat. It was my turn! I was really scared. The giant boat was old and dusty.I did not like it at all! The long journey was tiring, very tiring. The water was extremely choppy.I felt seasick. It took a long, long, long time to get to my new home. The water was as shiny as a diamond, the gleaming water rushed roughly down the river. It took a very long time just to get to the over side. The wind was also very strong too. On the horizon it looked like a jungle. The jungle was incredibly big. It stretched as far as I could see. We got closer and closer. I was so excited.I could just make out a shape of an elephant. It was my family member who had survived. I had missed him so much.I also missed my home but I was so excited to explore my new home. I might even make new friends.

After many days we finally arrived at shore. I was so excited to wander around the jungle. In my new home I met my family member on the beach and wandered into the jungle with him.I watched the park rangers go back to the mainland to get the last elephant. I looked back one more time and wandered off into the great, green jungle. The jungle was nice and a bit dark. I was no longer scared because I was with my family. I spotted a lake and I ran towards it. Suddenly I spotted something in the water.I looked closer and I saw a dirty green nose. IT WAS A FRIENDLY CROCODILE! Quickly me and the crocodile became friends. The crocodile told me about a nice place where I could make my new home on the west side of the jungle. Then I said thank you and goodbye and went west. Soon I found were the crocodile said.

One day I was walking next to the river when I saw a boy with a blue sun hat float by.The boy stared at me and sailed to the river bank. He looked around and found a banana. He picked it up and gave it to me.I did not know what to do. I picked the banana and eat it.The boy was very gentle. Maybe not all people want to destroy my home.

Computer Game Safety

Ahhhh… Wouldn’t it be nice to relax with your favourite game… Roblox? Or maybe Fortnite? Games are really fun and entertaining, but don’t let them affect your wellbeing…

By Lily 5L

Introduction

Keeping safe on the internet is vital, and the message has been spreading throughout the school. Now we know how to keep safe on the internet, let’s take a look at how video games can affect your wellbeing if you don’t keep safe, and how you can prevent that from happening.

Age Awareness

Some games could have extreme violence or inappropriate content in them, which are scientifically proved to be addictive and harmful to your mind. A small bit of violence doesn’t matter that much, but just in case, always check the ratings for the game you want. (They’re often at the back of the cover.) If they’re rated ‘E’ for ‘Everyone’ or ‘E-10+’ for ‘Everyone 10+’ for older kids, then the game is suitable for your age. However, some people have started to wonder if the ratings for games are reliable, so you could check the cover just in case. If it’s on your PC or mobile, look at the app cover and description of the game before you download it.

Multiplayer Modes

In many games you get to play with other real live people, which is called Multiplayer mode. Because of privacy, everyone has a fake profile for the game, and more advanced tech has introduced how you can also change your voice! Of course, these features not only make it really cool, but they also make it easier for online criminals to get to more and more people. My advice is to not friend strangers on games if you can, and never reveal your private information on chats.

Therefore…

Always use your common sense when playing a game to decide what’s safe and what’s not. As long as you don’t get too curious about games beyond your age level and be addicted to a certain game, playing games are definitely okay.

Thank you for reading, and enjoy your Easter!

Method 1. First, start with your two ribbons lined up horizontally.

2. Next, slide a pop tab through the ribbons.

3. After that, slide another pop tab on the ribbon, but make sure it is under the first pop tab.

4. Then, thread the ribbon through both tabs, making sure that the first half of the second pop tab is below the second half of the first pop tab.

5. Repeat the same thing. Keep in mind that the third pop tab should be on top of the second.

6. Finally, tie the ends of the ribbons to finish o! the bracelet.

Materials

12-14 pop tabs (depends on the size of your hand) and 2 30cm ribbons

Tips

. Try to keep the ribbon straight when weaving it through the pop tabs; folded ribbons will not look as neat.

. You could use other materials then just ribbon; you could try using shoelaces or string; use anything.

Method 1. Firstly, knot the balloon and cut the tip.

2. Stretch the balloon tightly around the toilet paper tube and secure with packing tape.

3. Then, if you want to, use paper to wrap it, but keep the top open. You can add stickers if you like.

4. For the confetti, just put it in the tube. If you are using metallic tissue paper, you can cut it up into small pieces.

If you want to release the confetti, a! you have to do is pu! the ba!oon, which wi! make it pop out.
