Maths

This week your maths learning is to practise careful counting from 1 to 20, forwards and backwards.

Go outside and march, hop, step and jump whilst counting from 1 to 20. Can you estimate how far across the outdoor space you’d get? Count and step, march, jump or hop to 20, counting out loud as you move towards your target place.

Collect about 20 objects from around the house, or in the garden, such as small toys, books, tins and packets or stones. Put some of the objects into a line on the floor. Count the objects from left to right. Jump along the line of objects as you count them, any way you like. Now jump back along the line right to left, counting backwards from the total number back to 1. Make a new line of objects and repeat

Randomly place number cards from 1 to 20 on the floor. Run out and collect one card at a time. Put them in order from 1 to 20 in a straight line. Read them out loud in order.

Randomly place number cards from 1 to 20 on the floor. Run out and collect one card at a time. Read the number and complete that many hops, jumps or steps.

Topic

This week we’re going to be learning about the story Rainbow Fish.

Before listening to the story, look at the front cover, what can you see? Listen to the story Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jQTjTe42-0

Choose some activities from the list below that you’d like to do:

The Rainbow Fish's scales 'shimmer'. Can you find other words that could be used to describe the scales?

Can you rewrite the story (or a part of it) as a playscript? Could you perform this to others? Write a story about a different 'rainbow' animal, e.g. a Rainbow Bird, a Rainbow Butterfly or a Rainbow

Chameleon. What might happen to them? Try counting the Rainbow Fish's scales. How many are there? Research on the internet and find out lots of information about fish. Can you create a fish fact file?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z6882hv/articles/zxgq2hv Can you find different materials that are shiny, like the Rainbow Fish's scale? What makes them shine and

reflective? Find out about plants that grow near / around / under water. Make your own picture of the Rainbow Fish or make a 3D model of the Rainbow Fish. Could you make a model of an underwater scene? Create your own puppets based on the characters in the story and perform it to your family. The Rainbow Fish's scales are 'every shade of blue, green and purple'. Can you try mixing paint to make lots of

different shades of these colours? Describe the Rainbow Fish's behaviour at different points in the story. How did his behaviour make the other

fish feel? The Rainbow Fish gives away his most prized possessions. What are your most prized possessions? Why are

they important to you? Does this story have a moral? What is it? Can you find other stories that have a meaning for the reader?

Phonics

This week your phonics learning is reading and writing words with the following digraphs (where two letters make one sound) or trigraphs (where three letters make one sound) in.

Mrs Bell’s/Mrs Hamshaw’s group Sounds: ng ai E.g. sing, hang, king, rain, wait, aim

You could also practise reading the high Frequency words: the, too, I

Mrs Barlow/Miss Arundel/Miss Sides’ groupsDigraphs: ow oa oo E.g. clown, down, flower, boat, toad, float, book, foot, hook

You could also practise reading the tricky words: you, her, what

You may want to make a game of pairs. Write each word out onto paper or card, twice, then mix them up and turn them over. Can you find a matching pair?

Fine Motor

This week we would like your child to practise folding along a line.

Draw straight line onto a piece of paper or card and then have a go at folding on the line. You could make a paper aeroplane, chatterbox or snake.

You may also like to make a poster to celebrate the NHS’s birthday!
