UPDATED ADVICE FOR COVID 19 Schools have received updated advice to manage the spread of COVID 19. Please familiarise yourself with the key points below; STAYING HOME IF YOU ARE UNWELL
In accordance with advice from NSW Health, parents and carers are reminded NOT to send children to
school if they are unwell, even if they have the mildest flu-like symptoms. Schools will make arrangements
for students who present as unwell or have flu like symptoms to be sent home.
NSW Health have requested that schools encourage anyone who is unwell or has even mild flu-like
symptoms, to arrange to be tested through their local medical practitioner or one of the COVID-19 clinics.
Parents/carers of students with flu like symptoms will need to provide a copy of a negative COVID-19 test
result before being permitted to return to school. It is vital that the school is notified when a child is being
tested, when the results return and that we are given a printed version of the negative results before a child
returns to school. Please don’t just send children back to school without us sighting the results.
Please look out for the video winners to
be posted on our Facebook page.
SCHOOL ACTIVITIES/SCHOOL SITE USAGE
Additional safety measures for school activities have been put in place to minimise the risk of COVID-19 transmission in schools for the remainder of Term 3. The following principles underpin these measures:
Where possible, students will stay within their relevant cohort group (i.e. class, year group, or stage) for all
learning activities within their school in order to limit close contacts to the relevant student cohort.
Only providers that are essential to the delivery of curriculum can continue to provide services and
programs until further notice. This will mean that visiting allied health providers not linked to curriculum
delivery, including counsellors, therapists etc will need to make other arrangements to visit children. This
may need to be done via technology from home or in the home.
Parents/carers and other non-essential visitors are not allowed on the school site.
All group singing (choirs) and/or other chanting activities, as well as the use of wind instruments in group
settings, are not permitted.
School formals, dances, graduation or other social events are not permitted.
ACTIVITIES ON HOLD FOR TERM 3
For now, the following events must remain on hold.
Kindergarten orientation
Year 7 orientation has been delayed until Term 4.
School camps
Excursions (other than in the local area)
Parent and carer attendance at assemblies and other school events
Parent and carer volunteers at school (note: 1 canteen volunteers is permitted per day)
School-based activities that involve large gathering of adults. These include parent/community gatherings
such as parent functions, working bees, fundraisers, school BBQs, large parent information evenings and
large onsite cultural events.
Interschool sport, drama, debating and other events.
PHYSICAL DISTANCING
Physical distancing of students in schools is not required under the AHPPC guidelines. All teachers, support staff
and parents must maintain physical distance from each other (1.5m). Parents should ensure school pick up and
drop off arrangements enable them to physically distance from one another and from staff.
SCHOOL CLEANING AND HYGIENE SUPPLIES
Our school will continue to receive additional cleaning in line with the
AHPPC guidelines and advice from NSW Health. Target areas include high-
touch areas and other hard surfaces, door handles, lockers, light switches
and handrails in stairways and movement areas. There will also be
additional cleaning of toilets and topping up of supplies like soap.
ATTENDANCE AWARDS
Because of the challenges many families have faced with COVID 19,
learning from home, staying at home if you have cold and flu symptoms
and COVID testing we will no longer be awarding 100% attendance
awards. No child should feel the pressure to come to school if they are
sick.
As mentioned above any child who is unwell, even those with mild flu like symptoms should be tested for COVID 19 through their local medical centre or testing clinic. YEAR 3 AND 5 CHECK IN ASSESSMENTS
As there were no NAPLAN assessments this year because of COVID 19, the Department of Education has provided
schools with the opportunity to sit “check in” assessments. These are short, sharp point in time online tests that
check students’ understanding in reading comprehension, processes and vocabulary, as well as number sense,
algebra, measurement, geometry, statistics and probability. Year 5’s will sit their tests in the later half of this term
and Year 3’s will sit their tests in the first half of Term 4.
FAREWELL MR COX
We were saddened last week by the passing of Mr Charlie Cox, who was a much loved teacher at Casino Public
School from 1963 – 1997. Our deepest sympathies are extended to his family and friends, as we remember his
tireless commitment not only to our school but the wider Casino and Richmond Valley community. It is rare to find
a local person who wasn’t touched in some way by his dedication to education, sporting and community groups
and of course public office as a counsellor and then mayor. He will be sorely missed by all.
Nickie Bartlett Principal. ABSENCES / SMS MESSAGES Thank you to those families who are using our text message system to explain absences. If your child/children are absent from school you will receive a text message requesting an explanation for this absence. The message will read; Casino Public School: Your {son_daughter} {student_first_name} {student_surname_initial} was marked absent from school {date of absence}. Please provide an explanation by replying to this message. If you have more than one child away, you will receive a message for each student. Please respond to each individual message as these are directly linked to the class roll.
