Principal’s chat
Hi everyone,
Thank you to those who helped out at our Working Bee yesterday. It was
great to see both adults and children working away to get our school yard
ready for our annual Market Day. Thank you to the following families for
contributing their time or money towards the day – Carr, Gross, Hamilton,
Layne, Maclaurin, Robertson, Walmsley, Howard-Scholes, Cox and Ray.
The garden beds were weeded and mulched, areas were tidied up and
swept and the Fairy Garden got some great attention. The school grounds
are looking lovely!
Last Wednesday we had our School Council meeting. During the meeting
we looked at the Parent Opinion Survey and the Student Attitudes to
School Survey. There were high results in both the parent and student
surveys in the areas of effective teaching, high expectations and school
connectedness. The student’s Attitude to School survey is undertaken by
the students in grade 4 to grade 6 and the results were very positive in all
areas of the survey. The Parent Opinion Survey showed that our school
could improve on teacher communication regarding student progress. The
uEducateUs management system is designed to help with this
communication. uEducateUs will enable teachers to upload student work
with feedback, so parents can see how their child is progressing at different
points in the year, outside of reporting times.
Next Monday 28th
October is a Pupil Free Day. School staff will use this
day to review teaching and learning from this year and continue planning for
2020.
Lastly, don’t forget to put your name down on the roster for our Market Day. We still have lots of slots left, particularly around lunchtime and early afternoon. If you can’t get into the office to fill in the roster, please
complete the roster sent home last week and send it back to the office or call the office to book a time in.
Thanks,
Alisa

What’s happening in the classroom? Positive behaviour awards:
At assembly on Friday the following students will be receiving awards:
Prep/1: Karen for always taking time to create her illustrations (be your
best)
2/3: Florence for great data collection and graph work (be your best)
3/4: Joel for showing improvement in his reading (be your best)
5/6: Liam for persisting with challenging tasks and giving his best effort to
his literature circle group roles and discussion (be your best)
Clubs: Last Wednesday all teachers held “clubs” which students
participated in for a 90 minute session. Danica ran a cooking class,
Kathryn supervised the Fairy Garden construction group, Robert ran
coding and Melissa had the students making juggling balls which they will
then use for learning circus skills. All students chose the club which they
participated in and whilst some did not get their first choice, groups will
change in four weeks so students have the opportunity to try something
different. There was a real buzz in the school grounds as students
excitedly cooked, planted, coded and juggled their way through the
Birthdays

Community Connections
ASQ: Thank you to ASQ who have kindly donated plants for our fairy garden. Natalie and Liz from ASQ came to the school on Wednesday to help the students plant the plants during Clubs time.
Congratulations to the Merlo family on the safe arrival of baby Sophia last week.
Thank you
To Charlie and Maggie for being brave and talking to Maldon shop owners regarding our upcoming Shopping
Spree. It isn’t easy to approach people you don’t know but Charlie and Maggie did brilliantly!
Sport
Region Athletics: Congratulations to Izaak who ran very well and placed 8th in his 800m event at the Region
Athletics held in Bendigo last week.
Can you help?
We have a family desperately seeking a three bedroom house in Maldon to rent, effective immediately. If you can
help or know of someone who can please contact the office.
Extra curricular catch up
2019 Mt Alexander Primary Schools Chess Challenge: Well done to Arlen, Maggie, Ed and Liam on their
participation in the Chess Challenge this year. All four students played well with Ed and Arlen achieving Credit
certificates and Liam and Maggie earning participation certificates. A big thank you to Megan Walmsley who stayed
with the students on the day and Ray Stevenson who worked with the students prior to the competition to ensure
that they were competition ready!
