Soccer Balls for Zimbabwe
McMillan is a great school that has a global sense of social responsibility. Over the past few years, we have supported children in Zimbabwe by sending soccer balls, buying shoes and assisting to pay school fees. Mrs. Letendre is returning to Zimbabwe next summer. Her “Silokwethemba Project” assists in sending over 700 or-phaned and vulnerable children to school in the Tshelanyemba area. Soccer is a game that all the children love to play. Each year, Mrs. Letendre buys 60 soccer ball kits (ball, pump and extra needles) for each of the schools that she supports. In addition to just giving out the soccer balls, each year Silokwethemba host two soccer clinic days, bringing in 50 children from one of the schools for a fun filled day of training. I am very excited to see that through gentle persuasion each of the schools now sends 25 boys and 25 girls. In addition to these clinics, each year, Slokwethemba also hosts a tournament where 4 primary schools bring their teams for a full day tournament. Each team in the tournament receives new team jerseys and many soccer equipment prizes for their school. It is a very exciting day with hundreds of spectators cheering on their team. Donations buckets are available in each of your chil-dren’s classrooms. Your support for the purchase of these kits is greatly appreciated.
