Lunch Time

A closed campus exists to assist the school in ensuring a safe and caring

environment. Students are not allowed off school premises unless a parent

contacts the school via phone/note to have the student attend an

appointment or be involved in a specific activity. Should you have any questions

or concerns regarding this policy, please contact Mrs. Kristine Wilkinson, Principal, or

Mrs. Darla Clark, Vice Principal.

Bikes & Scooters A reminder that the skate park is not school property, and students are not

permitted there during school hours. Students must wear helmets while

riding bikes and scooters, and please always remember to lock up your

bike/scooter while at school.

Severe Nut Allergies

We have students who have severe allergic reactions to nuts. If exposed to nuts, their

reaction may place them in a life-threatening situation. In providing as safe an

environment as possible, we encourage our students to not share their food with others.

If students are bringing treats for others, we ask that they be free of nut products. Your

assistance in limiting these products being brought into the school is appreciated. We

would also ask parents/guardians to inform the school if their child(ren) have any life

threatening allergies so that we may better protect your children’s health. Please

contact the school office at (780) 923-2240.

Absentee Check If your child will be absent for the day please contact the school as soon as possible at

780-923-2240, or send an email to: [email protected]. Absentee checks will be

done each morning, and automated calls will be made to verify attendance for those

students marked absent.

make fundraising easy and tasty!

Boston Pizza and Gibbons School are joining together in

Operation Education again for the 2017-2018 school year! It is a

co-operative fundraising program designed to foster a sense of

community where students, peers, educators and families can

effectively raise funds towards specific school related ventures.

Please turn in your original Boston Pizza receipts from all

Alberta Boston Pizza locations to the drop box in Gibbons

School office by December 22, 2017. Boston Pizza will give

back 5% before taxes of all the receipts to Gibbons School PAC.

This money will be used throughout the school.

REMINDER

Now that the snow is

here to stay, we’d like

to remind students that

they are not to be wearing winter

Counsellors Corner In October we looked at mindfulness and self regulation… Part of understanding how to self regulate and consequently be mindful requires us to understand some basics about our brains and how they function. It is important to know that our prefrontal cortex is the last to fully develop and is shaped by our experiences. This is why learning how to self regulate and be

mindful as soon as possible is important -- it allows the connections in the brain to be made when a person is young. As we get age it gets harder to ‘rewire’ the brain to break old habits. Check out “How Mindfulness Empowers Us” by Happify - https://youtu.be/vzKryaN44ss

Thank you from the Williams Winter Wonderland!

Just a short note to say a huge thanks to some special students of Gibbons School. This

group of outstanding students have volunteered many hours as we prepared for the light

up at Williams Winter Wonderland. They worked hard setting up, painting, decorating,

and just being great kids. They are outstanding young people. They laughed while they

worked, and worked on school assignments taking black and white photos while

working ono the decorations. Kyle Povey, Jax McBain, and Haley and Carter Dutka

have given their time freely and happily to the project and we would like to say a huge

thank you to all of them. And Kyle is already busy planning on

a new scene for next year’s light up that we are so excited about.

So, thanks to Gibbons School staff for being a part of making

these kids great kids, to their parents for sharing them with is,

and of course we are so very proud to call them FAMILY.

Thanks Kyle, Jax, Haley, and Carter! You are our future.
