Principal’s Message Dear Parents/Caregivers,
It’s been a great start to the term, with students settling quickly into new routines and expectations of their new classrooms. What is even more impressive, is that all students are wearing our lovely green and gold uniform with pride, and looking out for each other.
Already you can sense that 2019 is going to be an exciting year of learning and opportunity. Class Placement/Class Names Executive and teaching staff have taken a considerable amount of time and care to ensure that all students have been appropriately placed in classes.
This year our classes have been named to celebrate 50 years since the first moon landing.
Welcome BBQ/Information Evening I look forward to meeting with you at our Welcome BBQ/Information Evening on Monday 18th February. This is a great opportunity to meet other parents and find out from your child’s teacher, expectations and programs they have in place for 2019. 6pm - K Astronauts, K/1 NASA, 1/2 Apollo, 2 Rockets. 6:30pm - 3 Gravity, 3/4Tranquility, 4 Armstrong.
7pm - 5 Milky Way, 5/6 Lunar, 5/6 Meteor, 6 Eclipse.
This will be followed by our first P&C meeting for the year at 7.30pm. Student Information Sheet Last week all students received a green Student Information Sheet, including a general and media
permission note.
Filling out both sides and returning this form ASAP will assist us in keeping your child’s contact details and other important information up to date on our school records. It is only necessary to complete one form per family.
Thank you to all families who have returned theirs already. Staffing The School welcomes Geordie Kuzniarski, Tim Hanns, Maggie Sutton, Kory Telfer and Eleisha Bartlett to our teaching staff. We know that these teachers will bring fresh ideas to our team and enjoy working with the wonderful students at South.
Jasmine Hearn joins our SLSO team and is looking forward to working alongside our teachers delivering special programs for our students.
Congratulations are also extended to Mr Robert Fajks who will take on the role of Relieving Assistant Principal Stage 2 while Megan Baker is on leave.
Swimming All students (Yrs 2 -6) have been involved in swimming trials over the last week in readiness for our School Swimming
Carnival on Thursday 21st February.
The trials are used to grade students into ability groups and also allow for valuable practice leading up to the carnival. If you are able to assist with the carnival, please contact the front office. Wagga Wagga Training This week I, along with other District Principals, will be attending training days in Wagga (Thus-Fri) focusing on high impact leadership within schools and receiving the latest educational updates.
If you have any concerns or queries whilst I am away, please don’t hesitate to contact one of my Assistant Principals Miss Kerry, Mr Fajks or Mrs Champness. School Grounds I would like to extend my thanks to our General Assistant Mr John Flisher for his tireless work over the summer break, keeping up with watering, mowing and general maintenance. His efforts plus that of our cleaners (Sarah and Kerry) and maintenance contractors helps to provide our staff and students with a pleasant working and learning environment. Assembly In order to maximise student learning, assemblies will now
take place fortnightly. The first assembly will be this Friday.
Please note assembly times: 11:30 am Kinder –Yr 2 12:10pm Yr 3-6
