* THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT *
We had a very impressive turn out for our Family Fun Day, with around 100
parents, students and many staff members attending and supporting the event.
Families really enjoyed spending time together doing arts and crafts and being
entertained. The mobile Cuddly Animal Farm was enjoyed by young and old and
our students loved the opportunity to hold and feed the farm animals!
The highlight for many was participating in the Akwaaba African drumming
circle. Paul certainly got everyone involved in playing and dancing. On behalf of
Balga Primary School I would like to extend our appreciation and thanks to
Kirsty, Julie, Stacey and all the team at the Child and Parent Centre, for
organizing and coordinating this event. The partnership between the CPC and
our school is valued and allows us to provide ongoing support to our students,
families and school community.
Research has shown that working in partnership with families and the wider
community, has a powerful impact on enhancing student learning. I would like
to thank the P&C and all of the parents who regularly attend our whole school
events. Your ongoing support communicates to your child that you really value
their education and that you are proud of their progress and achievements! I
wish everyone a safe and happy holiday!

IT’S TIME TO ENROL We are now taking applications for enrolment. You need to enrol for: Kindergarten - four years old by 30 June 2020 Pre-primary (first year of compulsory school) -
5 years old by 30 June 2020 changing schools. Visit the school office now to enrol your children for 2020. The first years of school are so important. It is a time when your child discovers the wonder and excitement of learning, exploring and imagining.
It is really important for you to be involved in your child’s learning during these important years. Continuing the learning at home helps build their confidence at school and in life.
There are many fun and easy ways to continue your child’s learning at home. To assist you, a series of videos, booklets and factsheets are available on the Department’s website.
Designed for you, these resources include fun activities you can do together as part of your daily routine. We hope you find these resources useful.

During week 7 we hosted Science Alive for two
interactive science shows. The shows were engaging,
but also covered key concepts in the science
curriculum we have been teaching in class this term.
Concepts covered included the transformation of
energy, movement of heat, electricity, light, sound
and many more. We were proud of our students
demonstrating their knowledge to the presenter
throughout the shows!
During week 9 we had an incursion from The Earth
Science Western Australia division of CSIRO. CSIRO is
Australia’s national science agency. Room 10 had an
opportunity to study some fossils and then to make
their own. They also looked through prism glasses to
observe the dispersion of light and got their own UV
sensitive beads.
The presenter, Cecily Arkell, was a student at Balga
Primary School previously. Children had an opportunity
to ask her what school life was like here when she
attended. Cecily studied Chemistry after leaving school,
worked for a number of mining companies and then
taught students in Japan before returning to Perth.
What a great inspiration to our children!

The pre-primary to year 3 students had a Constable
Care incursion last Monday which was a fun blend of
acting and puppetry. The exciting performance took
students on a wild ride in Professor Tells-You-Stuff’s
time machine to explore the ways we can travel to
school safely all in one morning!
Years 4 to 6 experienced an intense and, at times,
challenging two-actor drama that explored the ability
of young people to channel violent and destructive
behaviours into creative pursuits.
