WALKERTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL MAY 2017 WWW.JGSC.K12.IN.US Principal's Report April is almost done and May is right around the corner. The Indiana weather is living up to its reputation...cold one day then hot then cold...etc. I know it is hard to predict what will happen (sometimes the weather people are not too accurate), however, please try to help your child dress properly for the weather. I am happy to announce that the new playground that we have been saving for from PTA Fun Fair, is FINALLY being installed! This will greatly improve the fun that all students will enjoy while on the playground. Thank you to all who have helped the past few years by attending our annual Fun Fair. All monies raised from Fun Fair helped purchase this new playground equipment. All students in Grades 3-6 are once again, working hard taking the ISTEP tests. I know that the students and teachers have been working very hard to prepare for these tests. Our students did a fantastic job last year and we are again hoping for great results on these tests. Look within for information about our Fun Fair! This is a great event that benefits the entire school (playground already purchased!), in various ways. Our PTA assist the school and the teachers in many ways. Volunteers are needed to assist with this year’s Fun Fair. If interested, please contact the school office. If you have not yet received information about Summer School, please contact Mrs. Harasewciz - [email protected] or 574-586-3186 We are working on putting in a new drive to assist with Car Rider pick up for next year. We are hoping this new drive will alleviate all the cars that sit on Washington Street. This will be safer for all concerned. We will be sending out information as this project proceeds. NURSE'S CORNER

I can't believe this is the last newsletter of the year (except for a small blurb next month). IMMUNIZATIONS 5th Grade students!! You will need Tdap & MCV4 (meningitis) before school starts in the fall. Also, talk to the doctor about HPV. The news was saying that the diseases that cause this virus are spreading rapidly in Indiana. This disease can cause cancer as your child becomes adult. There are many who are not up to date on their immunizations. They need to have their vaccines done before school starts in the fall also. Make sure to get copies of the vaccines from the doctor and turn them into the office. SPORTS I was hoping for a larger turnout for our Sports Physical Clinic at the school. Just to let you know that a physical must be on file before practice begins in the fall. You can get a form from the office or go to the JGSC web site and copy the form to have the doctor fill out. Please remember to complete and sign your section. SAFETY Did you know that more children die from accidents than diseases? Please educate your child about crossing the street, bicycle rules, chemicals not to touch, kitchen safety and water safety. Let us all have a safe and happy summer! MEDICATION Parents! If you sent in medication this year, please pick them up in the office. The secretaries will be in the office for 3 weeks after school is out for the summer. See you in the fall!

MESSAGE FROM YOUR SCHOOL COUNSELOR

This will be my last message for the 2016 - 2017 school year as I come to the end of my first year as the Walkerton Elementary School Counselor. I have to admit that I felt somewhat anxious at the start of the year after working 14 years in the comfort of my previous elementary counseling position. I want to take this opportunity to give a big thank you to all the students, staff, and families that make up this school. The loving acceptance has been overwhelming and I so appreciate everything this school is about. I also want to thank the previous WES Counselor and current full time North Liberty School Counselor, Mrs. Heiser, who was instrumental in advocating for full time counseling positions in our Elementaries. Mrs. Heisers’ hard work and dedication to all the children of the John Glenn School Corporation is inspirational and encourages me to give my best each day I come to work.

I hope you have enjoyed the little Message From Your School Counselor articles in the School Newsletter. As I stated in one of my earlier messages, a strong connection between family and school is very important to me. I have tried to use these articles to provide encouraging thoughts and insight into my activities as the counselor. Again, the children here have been wonderful, and as I walk the hallways I can only think of how blessed I am to be a Wildcat.

I want to encourage everyone to have a great summer break. I look forward to next school year with a little experience and making it an even better school year. If you have any needs as we come to the end of the year, please make sure to contact me.

Sincerely, Rich Stauffer Elementary School Counselor

after. Enrichment program will be from 6:30am until 6:00pm. If your child is involved in

other programs held at WES ,during Summer School only, and would like to join ours
