From the Office

Well, May has come a gone in the blink of an eye. Summer is right around the corner finally, if this every other day rain holds off or comes to an end! Do your rain dance, say some prayers, do whatever you need to do to help keep the rain away. They say “It never rains on a golf course” right? We’ve seen our fair share around here lately. The golfing season has kicked off and is well underway with the course packed just about every day of the week.

Going back to “From the Office”, I would like to personally thank Tom Fetterman who is currently freshening up our offices with a new coat of paint. It was time for a change in here and I am loving it!

We would like to thank everyone who came out to the Dinner Dance with Richie Molinaro & Mr. Lou. It was definitely a great time to be had and thank you to everyone that attended our Mother’s Day Buffet, it was a huge success! Guy and his staff always manage to put on an exceptional show.

2019 Rule Changes – Major Change Time limit for searching for a ball is now 3 MINUTES

Rule 7 - Ball Search: Finding and Identifying Ball Purpose of Rule: Rule 7 allows you to take reasonable actions to fairly search for your ball in play after each stroke. • But you must be careful, as a penalty will apply if you act excessively and cause improvement to the conditions affecting your

next stroke.

• You get no penalty if your ball is accidentally moved in trying to find or identify it, but you must then replace the ball on its original spot.

7 .1 H o w to F a i r ly Se a r c h f o r B a l l

a. You May Take Reasonable Actions to Find and Identify Ball You may fairly search for the ball by taking reasonable actions to find and identify it, such as:

• Moving sand and water, and

• Moving or bending grass, bushes, tree branches and other growing or attached natural objects, and also breaking such objects, but only if such breaking is a result of other reasonable actions taken to find or identify the ball.

If taking such reasonable actions as part of a fair search improves the conditions affecting the stroke there is no penalty. But if the improvement results from actions that exceeded what was reasonable for a fair search, you get the general penalty.

b. What to Do If Sand Affecting Lie of Your Ball Is Moved While Trying to Find or Identify It You must re-create the original lie in the sand, but may leave a small part of the ball visible if the ball had been covered by sand. If you play the ball without having re-created the original lie, you get the general penalty. 7 .2 H o w to I de n t i fy Yo u r B a l l You may identify your ball by seeing it come to rest or seeing your identifying mark on the ball. For more information on how your ball may be identified.

From the Greens

I ask that all members please refrain from asking our crew members to do work on the course, if you would like to express your thoughts, please come to the Superintendent or the Greens Chairman.

We are aware of the bunkers, the weedwacking and the repairs from flooding that need to be done, but given the situation of the club we must focus our attention on maintain the greens, fairways, tees and rough.

For the course to remain open to carts, please obey the cart signs and the restrictions given at the Pro Shop.

Mike Madara, Greens Superintendent

7 .3 Li f t i ng Yo u r B a l l t o I d e nt i f y I t If a ball might be yours but you cannot identify it as it lies, you may lift the ball to identify it. But the spot of the ball must first be marked, and the ball must not be cleaned more than needed to identify it (except on the putting green). If the lifted ball is your ball or another player’s ball, it must be replaced on its original spot. If you lift your ball when not reasonably necessary to identify it, fail to mark the spot of the ball before lifting it or clean it when not allowed, you get one penalty stroke. Penalty for Playing Incorrectly Substituted Ball or Playing Ball from a Wrong Place in Breach of Rule 7.3: General Penalty. 7 .4 B a l l Ac c i d e nta l ly M o v e d i n Tr y i ng to F in d o r I d e nt i fy I t There is no penalty if your ball is accidentally moved by you, your opponent or anyone else while trying to find or identify it. If this happens, the ball must be replaced on its original spot (which if not known must be estimated). In doing so:

• If the ball was on, under or against any immovable obstruction, integral object, boundary object or growing or attached natu-ral object, the ball must be replaced on its original spot on, under or against such object.

• If the ball was covered by sand, the original lie must be re-created and the ball must be replaced in that lie. You may leave a small part of the ball visible if the ball had been covered by sand.

Penalty for Breach of Rule 7.4: General Penalty.

Even after all the severe storms and excessive rainfall we have had, the course is in excellent shape as always! Kudos to Mike Mada-

ra and his staff for crafting one of, if not the best condition course in northeast PA! Hope you are getting the time now that the weath-

er is finally starting to turn to get out there and swing the clubs. The Pro Shop is still bringing in new merchandise to fit your golfing

Dick’s Sporting Goods, our prices are competitive and often than not beat their prices!

The B.G.C. hosted the Inaugural Memorial Day Heroes 4-Person Scramble Tournament on Monday, May 27th. The tournament had 25 teams and the team of Randy Lynch, Eric Lynch, Rick Lynch and Terry Reffeor (-13) 58 won on a match of cards (back 9 26 was the tiebreaker including an eagle on 16!). Runner-ups were the team of Scott Scheirer, Ron Kishbaugh, Jeff Helsel and Carl Hin-kle and the team of Jack Miller, Chris Lopes, Rich Weaver and Jordan Stout. Both teams also shot (-13) 58. The team of Steve Rudy, Eric Correll, Angelo Venditti and Joe DeMelfi won the 1st flight with a team score of (-6) 65. Congratulations to all who par-ticipated!

There’s still time left to sign up for the Member-Guest! It’s a great Father’s Day weekend filled with good food, great golf and many laughs! It kicks off Friday Night, June 14th with the ever-popular glow ball contest which will begin around 9:15 p.m. Tournament applications are in the pro shop.

Be on the lookout for the July 4th Veteran’s Appreciation Tournament application which will be an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start, it fills
