Vast Experience and Original TechnologyIt is now more than 30 years since Yokogawa shippedits first process gas chromatograph. During those threedecades, we've put more than 6,000 units into operation. As Japan's leading manufacturer of process gaschromatographs, Yokogawa has always offered itscustomers the most advanced gas chromatographtechnology available.

New Gas ChromatographResponds to Today's NeedsWith today's relentless emphasis on cost reduction, managers are demanding ever-tighter quality control inprocess operations. Together with the trends towardstricter environmental protection and the developmentof new product materials, this is creating the need fornew capabilities in process gas chromatographs. Thenew GC1000 has been developed to respond to thoseneeds, drawing on Yokogawa's extensive capabilities inthe following areas.

● Column technologyThe column is the heart of a gas chromatograph.Yokogawa's application technology is backed by fieldexperience with thousands of column types.

● Microprocessor application technologyYokogawa has been using microprocessors in its gaschromatograph for nearly 20 years.

● Accumulated application knowhowColumn and sampling system designs are backed byfield experience with 6,000 units in every kind ofindustry.

Dramatically Improved Ease of Use

Operating DisplayAll operations are easily accessed using the operatingdisplay panel keys. Analyzer information is displayed insimple English on the LCD display. You can easily callup all the information you need ... operating status, alarmdisplays, analysis results, temperature status, chromatograms, and operating parameters ... just bypressing single keys.

Liquid Sampling Valve With VaporizerThis high-performance liquid sampling valve vaporizesthe liquid sample in a temperature-controlled section andthen injects it directly into the column (packed or capillary)inside the isothermal or programmed-temperature oven, enabling analysis of high boiling point liquid samples.

Electronic CircuitsThe electronic circuits are mounted inside a pressurizedenclosure. This microprocessor-based unit providessignal amplification, waveform processing, sequencing,PID temperature control, and external communicationsprocessing.

Wiring TerminalsTerminal blocks are provided for connection of wiringbetween the gas chromatograph and the outside world.

Isothermal OvenThis Isothermal oven featuresexcellent temperature stabilityand pressurized construction. APID temperature controller holdsthe oven internal temperaturestable within ±0.03°C, of aconstant preset value. The ovenhouses the detectors, column, carrier regulators, and streamswitching valves.

Programmed-Temperature OvenThis oven provides program-controlled temperatureacross a wide temperature range. An air bath systemwith agitator fan ensures high temperature uniformitywithin the oven.

Flow Control UnitContains the carrier gas pressure regulator valve, pressure gauge, and purge air pressure regulator.EPC (Electronic Pressure Control) is also available.

Purge Controller Shutdown (Option)An automatic interlock system is available to remove powerto the GC1000 upon loss of pressure in the pressurizedenclosures. When this happens, electrical isolation is providedfor the power supply, all I/O, and the analyzer bus. When thearea is known to be non-hazardous, an override function isavailable to facilitate maintenance and adjustment with theenclosures open.

Newly Developed Hardwareat the Heart of the AnalyzerSignificantly Enhances Analysis Reliability

New Isothermal and Programmed-Temperature Ovens AchieveOutstanding Temperature Stability and Repeatability

Highly stable temperature control in the isothermal orprogrammed-temperature oven is critical for stable gaschromatograph measurement per fo r mance.Temperature control accuracy, temperature programrepeatability, and heating rate in par ticular arefundamental to performance, and the GC1000instruments achieve outstanding characteristics in theseareas thanks to the following features:1)An air bath system enables fast control with even heat-

ing2)An internal agitator fan driven by the sample purge air

minimizes consumption and still ensures temperatureuniformity inside the oven.

3)A recirculating heating system like those used in labo-ratory gas chromatographs reduces heater thermalcapacity to nearly zero, permitting fast temperatureresponse and highly stable control.

Temperature Performance Specifications

Isothermal oven volume is 40L, and programmed-temperature oven volume is 8.6L. Exploiting theadvantages of the air bath system has enabled us tokeep generous amounts of space free for ease ofmaintenance.

Liquid Sampling Valve With Vaporizer Achieves Excellent SealingPerformance

The liquid sampling valve directly measures the amountof liquid sample, and contains a built-in vaporizationheater independent of the oven heating system. Aftersampling, the liquid is vaporized and injected into thecolumn at this heater's preset temperature. The newly developed valve used in the GC1000instruments features enhanced sealing performance anda simplified design in the seal area for easiermaintenance. The result is significantly increasedreliability of analysis across a much wider range of boilingpoints.

Fast, Highly Sensitive Detectors for Those Sharp Capillary Column Peaks

Capillary Columns

Capillary columns offer separation capability an orderof magnitude faster than packed columns. Thus theyare highly attractive for analysis of high boiling point oradsorptive samples. Since The GC1000 featureshardware that enable laboratory GC analysis conditionsto be employed without compromise in processapplications, you can take full advantage of the highseparation capability of these capillary columns.

Highly Reliable, Field-Proven Stream Switching Valves

These stream switching valves are the fruit ofYokogawa's more than 30 years of process gaschromatograph experience and feature excellentmaintainability.Compared to those used in laboratory chromatographs, they are much better suited to the extreme conditionsof process applications, and are one of the definingdifferences between laboratory and process GChardware. The GC1000 is equipped with improved valves thatare even better able to withstand continuous high-temperature operation.
