1 Area of applicability

These safety instructions apply to the process pressure transmitters IPT-10/11-R/A/4/5-***-**-******4-

** according to EG type approval certificate PTB 06 ATEX 2018 X with the 1. supplement (certificatenumber on the type label) and for all instruments with the number of the safety instruction (38464) onthe type label.

2 General information

The process pressure transmitters IPT-10/11-R/A/4/5-***-**-******4-** are also used for pressure andlevel measurement in hazardous areas.

The measured products can also be combustible liquids, gases, mist or vapour.

The IPT-10/11-R/A/4/5-***-**-******4-** consist of an electronics housing with an "Ex-d" connectioncompartment with integrated barrier and an "Ex-i" connection compartment with integratedelectronics module, a process connection element and a sensor. The indicating and adjustmentmodule can optionally also be integrated.

The IPT-10/11-R/A/4/5-***-**-******4-** are suitable for use in hazardous atmospheres of allcombustible materials of explosion group IIA, IIB and IIC for applications requiring instruments ofcategory 1/2G or category 2G.

If the IPT-10/11-R/A/4/5-***-**-******4-** are installed and operated in hazardous areas, the generalEx installation regulations EN 60079-14 as well as these safety instructions must be observed.

The operating instructions as well as the applicable, valid Ex mounting regulations and standards forelectrical equipment must be observed.

The installation of explosion-endangered systems must always be carried out by qualified personnel.

2.1 Category 1/2G instruments

The process connection element is installed in the separating wall, which separates areas in whichinstruments of category 2G or 1G are required. The electronics housing is installed in hazardousareas requiring instruments of category 2G. The sensor is installed in hazardous areas requiringinstruments of category 1G.

2.2 Category 2G instruments

The IPT-10/11-R/A/4/5-***-**-******4-** are installed in hazardous areas requiring instruments ofcategory 2G.

The regulations for the interconnection of intrinsicallysafe circuits between IPT-10/11-R/A/4/5-***-**-

******4-** and the external indicating unit are com-

plied with if the total inductance and total capacitanceof the connection cable between IPT-10/11-R/A/4/5-

***-**-******4-** and the external indicating unit Lwire =100 µH and Cwire = 2.8 µF are not exceeded. Theindicating and adjustment module integrated in IPT-

10/11-R/A/4/5-***-**-******4-** is taken into account.

The metallic parts of the IPT-10/11-R/A/4/5-***-**-******4-** are electrically connected with the earthterminals.

The intrinsically safe circuits are grounded.

4 Application conditions

For applications requiring instruments of category 1/2G the pressure of the explosive atmospheremust be between 0.8 … 1.1 bar. The 80 % consideration of sect. 6.4.2/EN 1127-1 is taken intoaccount with the permissible ambient temperatures. If the IPT-10/11-*-***-**-******4-** are operatedat temperatures higher than those specified in the above table, please make sure by means ofappropriate measures, under consideration of the 7 K self heating of the sensor, that there is nodanger of ignition from the hot surfaces. The max. permissible temperature on the electronics/housing should not exceed the values stated in the above table. The application conditions inareas without hazardous mixtures are specified in the manufacturer information.

If the IPT-10/11-*-***-**-******4-** are operated at temperatures higher than those specified in theabove table, please make sure by means of appropriate measures, under consideration of the 7 K

5 Protection against static electricity

The IPT-10/11-R/A/4/5-***-**-******4-** in the version with chargeable plastic parts, such as e.g.metalhousing with inspection window, are provided with a caution label referring to the safety measuresthat must be taken in case electrostatic charging occurs during operation.

6 Grounding

The "Ex-d" connection compartment of IPT-10/11-R/A/4/5-***-**-******4-** contains a safety barrierwithout electrical isolation. The intrinsically safe circuit must be grounded due to safety reasons. Theexternal or internal earth terminal on the housing is used for this purpose.

7 Impact and friction sparks

When used as category 1/2G instruments, the IPT-10/11-R/A/4/5-***-**-******4-** aluminium versionsmust be mounted in such a way that sparks from impact and friction between aluminium and steel(except stainless steel, if the presence of rust particles can be excluded) cannot occur.

The process pressure transmitters in the titanium versions must be mounted in such a way thatsparks from impact and friction between titanium and and any other hard material cannot occur.

8 Material resistance

The IPT-10/11-R/A/4/5-***-**-******4-** must only be used in media against which the materials of thewetted parts are sufficiently resistant.

9 Ignition protection type flame proof enclosure Ex "d"

The terminals for connecting to the operating voltage, i.e. signal circuits, are integrated in theconnection compartment according to protection type flame-proof enclosure "d".

The gap between housing and cover is a flameproof gap.

The "Ex-d" connection compartment has to be connected via suitable cable glands resp. conduitsystems that conform with the requirements of EN 60079-1 par. 13.1 and 13.2 and are provided witha separate type approval certificate.

Cable entries as well as plugs of simple construction must not be used. When connecting thetransmitter in the "Ex-d" connection compartment via a conduit specially approved for this purpose,the appropriate sealing facility must be placed directly on the housing.

Unused openings must be sealed according to EN 60079-1.

A certified "Ex-d" cable gland is supplied by default. It is suitable for insertion of armoured orunarmoured cables depending on the ordered version. The instructions in the documentaccompanying the respective cable gland must be observed. The "Ex-d" cable gland must bescrewed tightly into the housing. The supplied cable gland is suitable for the housing temperaturerange mentioned in the IPT-10/11-R/A/4/5-***-**-******4-** specification. If another cable gland isused, the separately certified cable gland or the temperature classes on the electronics determinesthe maximum permissible ambient temperature on the housing.

Before opening or in case of the lid of the "Ex-d" connection compartment is open (e. g. duringconnection or service work), make sure that either the supply line is voltage free or no explosiveatmosphere is present.

The connection cable to the "Ex-d" connection compartment must be sufficiently secured againstdamage and laid in conformity with EN 60079-14.

The cover of the Exd connection compartment must be screwed in completely before commissioningand secured by screwing out the lid locking screw all the way to the stop.

Temperature-resistant connection cables must be used, provided that the temperature at the inletparts is exceeding 70 °C.

Unused openings have to be sealed according to EN 60079-1 section 11.9.

The cover of the "Ex-d" connection compartment with the caution label "Do not open when anexplosive gas athmosphere is pressent" and the cover of the "Ex-i" connection compartment withoutcaution label must not be exchanged.

The covers must be assigned to the respective connection compartment.
