Welcome to the culmination of Space Camp Cohort #1! We reviewed over 1000 start-ups globally for this first ever programme of Space Camp, our new SpaceTech focused accelerator.

The six companies selected represent potential future category leaders that match the dual objectives of being venturable and attracting commercial interest from our corporate delivery partners and sponsors.

At Seraphim we believe SpaceTech will be one of the defining growth areas in the wider venture capital market over forthcoming decades, with Space Camp positioned to be at the heart of the already thriving SpaceTech ecosystem. London is only the launch pad for Space Camp as we look to roll out globally in the next year, building the biggest and most valuable accelerator alumni focused on Spacetech.

Rob DesboroughDirector, Seraphim Space Camp

We’re delighted to welcome you to the Cohort #1 Product & Investor Days of Seraphim Space Camp, the UK’s first accelerator programme dedicated to the rapidly growing SpaceTech start-up sector.

With the assistance of our corporate sponsors we’ve chosen 6 start-ups for our first programme from the Seraphim Capital global dealflow. The six showed great commercial potential across their specific fields and address a number of earth-bound business problems that SpaceTech can help solve. The companies cover areas from robotics to earth observation, drones, satellite propulsion and AI. Reflecting the interconnected nature of the wider technology landscape, the cohort also includes not just pure-play space technology, but also both technology spun out from the space sector, and terrestrial technology with potential game-changing applications within the space sector.

The entire Space Camp team, along with our key corporate partners have been working incredibly hard to genuinely accelerate their path

to Series A funding and commercial engagement with some of the worlds biggest corporates in their fields. After working with the teams over the 9 week programme we are delighted to introduce you to them and the products they are building to address some of the key growth opportunities in the SpaceTech sector.

Backed by Seraphim Capital, the world’s first and largest Space Tech Venture Fund, Space Camp brings together a growing list of top-tier players in the SpaceTech Industry: Space Corporates, Institutions, Specialist Investors and IP Experts, creating a globally unique value proposition for start-ups. Our Product and Investor Days are also a great opportunity to connect with the partners and our wider network of professionals interested in the SpaceTech sector.

Investment in new business carries high risk as well as the possibility of high rewards. It is highly speculative and potential investors should be aware that no established market exists for the trading of share in private companies. Before investing in a project about which information is given, potential investors are strongly advised to take advice from a person authorised by the financial service and markets Act 2000 (FSMA) who specialise in advising on investments of this kind. Neither Space Camp Ltd not Seraphim Space (Manager) LLP can advise on the merits or risks of investments and neither is authorised to arrange transactions or circulation of offer documents under the FSMA and are exempt bodies for the purpose of arranging deals in investments under the statutory instrument 1201 of 2000. Taking a “VC-mindset” approach to the accelerator concept, the founders of Space Camp believe that investability should be a prerequisite for companies’ participation in the programme, not the endgame.

The Space Camp value proposition is designed to attract the ‘best of breed‘ high growth technology companies that are best addressing the biggest challenges facing corporates and the wider SpaceTech industry, and to support them in achieving commercial scale by creating tangible outcomes beyond simply funding.

Space Camp is creating an ecosystem and community support network to ensure that participating start-ups are equipped to maintain their accelerated growth beyond the completion of the programme, providing mentoring from more established companies from the Seraphim Capital portfolio, opportunities to work with invested corporate partners on proof of concepts and other technology integrations, and ongoing access to facilities and resources in locations around the world.

Seraphim Space Camp is the UK’s first dedicated accelerator programme for start-ups in the SpaceTech industry. Launched by Seraphim Capital, the world’s leading venture capital fund specialising exclusively in SpaceTech investment, Space Camp is backed by both the UK and European Space Agencies as well as by corporate partners such as Dentons, Rolls Royce and Cyient.

Seraphim Capital is a London-based venture capital fund manager with £100 million under management and the manager for the world’s leading SpaceTech focused venture fund dedicated to financing the growth of companies operating in the space ecosystem. We invest in companies that are transforming global industries through the generation, enhancement, and application of satellite- and drone-enabled data.

Seraphim typically invests at Series A stage into IP-led businesses that have the potential to redefine large existing markets or create entirely new ones. Over the last decade this has included artificial intelligence (computervision, neural networks, machine learning), the Internet of Things (software, sensors),

advanced materials (polymers, semiconductors) and more recently SpaceTech (nanosats, drones, sensors, data analytics). Collectively, the Seraphim team has more than 100 years’ experience, having invested in more than 200 early- and growth-stage businesses.

Global Surface Intelligence

One liner GSI provides A.I. powered analysis of satellite data helping owners of natural resources and infrastructure to make better decisions in buying, selling and managing their assets by establishing their current value.

Overview:

4,000 satellites currently orbit the planet collecting and communicating a vast array of raw data. Global Surface Intelligence (GSI) is one of a few companies globally who are able to extract answers from this raw data to reveal changes over time in natural assets, resources and land use. Applications include forest inventory, pest and disease tracking, crop yield, traceability for the food supply chain, deforestation, insurance claim management and defect detection in man-made structures.

GSI has an ultra-efficient AI processing platform which transforms raw data into faster valuable decision-making answers, enabling customers to get more value from space data.

Opportunity:

Today’s corporate customers need more than “pretty pictures” from space, instead they need answers on the changing behaviour of natural assets and resources. Extracting answers from space information is complex, time consuming and expensive.

GSI has invented and patented unique methods in the application of AI to space data which move beyond simple object classification to high value measurement of change.

Earth Rover

One liner Earth Rover is developing the first robotic agriculture system that is genuinely viable for farmers.

Overview:

Earth Rover is a UK precision farming start-up aiming to provide the first robotic farming system that is genuinely viable for farmers.

Farming has reached its tipping point. It is stuck in analog mode, is highly wasteful and threatened by severe manual labour shortages. However, no farmer today can adopt new technologies as their primary mode of production because robotics companies’ focus has been on selling disparate hardware. Earth Rover is an operating system company that delivers farming services, rather than hardware. We are currently evidencing our technology with the largest organic farm in the UK, which has also invested in Earth Rover.

Opportunity:

Selling precision farming-as-a-service, Earth Rover’s initial target market is the £1.7bn labour-intensive organic vegetable production market in Europe.

Current farming robotics solutions are single-point and focus on hardware, which makes them difficult to scale. We are developing an operating system that makes it practical and cost-effective to sell robotic technology to farmers as a service, at scale. The first manifestation of the system is an integrated weeding-scouting-selective harvesting solution that saves the farmer up to 70% of opex and 50% of growing costs.

Key Team:

Alina Costache. A business strategist who has worked with €10bn+ market cap listed companies at board level.

Professor Simon Blackmore. One of the world’s leading experts on precision farming and agricultural robotics.

Paul Harter. An experienced software & hardware integration specialist, former senior technologist at BBC R&D and architect of Digirostrum.

Sergio A. Mart. A software and hardware developer. Previously CTO and co-founder at gesture control startup FlickTek, and senior architect at Intel.

Funding Ask:

Seed round £1.5m

Milestones:

• Q2-Q318: Develop a field tested, agriculturally robust, over-bed scouting robot that can that can track the growth of individual plants

• Q418 - Q119: Prepare for commercial operation of the integrated weeding and scouting robot. Prototype and test components of the selective harvesting system

• Q2-Q319: Start operating the weeding and scouting capability commercially with 5 farms. Pilot the data driven selective harvesting system.
