Professional Development in my school
Paola Di Renzo
Italian Headmaster
Istituto Comprensivo 3 Chieti (Italy)
Since the first year of eTwinning in my schoolI worked to spread the voice about theplatform among the teachers of my school, organizing teachers meeting in which myschool’s eTwinners talked about theirprojects, the activities, the processes, theresults, the competences involved and thebenefits both for students and for teachers.
74
Since 2012 we have had an eTwinningAmbassador in our school.I planned lots of Professional Developmentactions with her so that the teachers of myschool could benefit form her experiencein eTwinning and could learn how to usethe platform, how to include ICT inteaching and learning and how to innovatetheir teaching methods.
eTwinning, in fact, gives lots of opportunities to teachers as it offers the opportunity to:-better their ICT skills-reach a better level of language competences-work collaborating (the more teachers are, the better…)-learn new teaching methods-innovate teaching-learn how to motivate students
76
To innovate teaching in my school I totallysupported my school Ambassador:-allowing her to take part in eTwinningConferences in presence, Webinar,Seminars, PDW (Professional DevelopmentWorkshop), online courses so that shecould train her colleagues-supporting her in the creation ofeTwinning Groups
77
According to our plan she created TWO GROUPS
in the eTwinning platform:
1) COURSE ABOUT CLIL (CONTENT
LANGUAGE INTEGRATED LEARNING) for our
school teachers and other teachers from Chieti. In
this group there were 24 teachers working in the
platform.
78
2) EXPERIMENTATION about the use of the eTwinning platform to innovate teaching and to open our students mind to Europe. 14 teachers worked in the group.
79
I also supported and promoted the organization of aLearning Event by the Ambassador of my school,Marina Screpanti. The LE ran from May 30th to June10th.The Learning Event “How partnership and ICTinnovate Primary School teaching and learning” had118 teachers involved in the platform specificallyplanned by the Ambassador. We promoted the Groups and the Learning Eventwith mails sent to all my Institute teachers explainingthe programme of the Learning Event and thank tothe Social of my school.
80
We have, in fact, a Social inside our school site. It is opened to all our teachers. Here we promote courses, ideas, projects and also eTwinning.
81
OUR SOCIAL
82
HERE THE POST THAT PROMOTES THE LEARNING EVENT
Another important occasion the Ambassador and Icreated together with the other teachers eTwinnersof the school is an eTwinning GROUP inside myInstitute. The group organizes eTwinning days, talks abouteTwinning to parents, supports teachers who want tolearn how to use ICT in their teaching. They all are a good team. My task is to incentivatetheir work, giving them opportunities to talk, to showtheir work, to share their competences with thecolleagues creating agood team spirit.
83
We also catch all the ProfessionalDevelopment opportunities eTwinningoffers, from the Webinars dedicated tospecific topics to the Learning Events andthe Groups (Creative classroom, Web 2.0tools, eTwinning e la realtà).Many of my teachers, for example, trainedthemselves in Coding thank to eTwinning.
84
Then, every May I organize an eTwinning Day to spread the voice about eTwinning, not only among my teachers but also among the
whole Community, other teachers and parents.
85
Starting with 1 teacher in 2008, at themoment there are 24 eTwinners in myschool but new ones are going to join theplatform in the next weeks. Now in one project, a team of 16 teachersfrom my school is working together.Strength lies in unity!
86
87
88
Thank to eTwinning, my teachers have learnt a lot about the use of ICT in theirteaching. They have also learnt that working together is enriching as sharing competences and ideas is one of the best way to learn. The platform
