4.12 EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

4.13 RAILWAY STATION AND ROUTES LENGTH
Chittoor district is well connected by both mid and mad total railway statbm
in the district are 38. Railway 23km of broad-gaup and 13 km of M-gurge
railway line constitutes the major transpartatinn facility, Thc well knit railway nat
work is the major transportetion for transporting men and material fiom one p l w to
another. Thus, railways being in operation for the last 100 p u s have become the

The animal husbandry schancs arc being implcmcntad in the district d t i n g
in more crossbred implemented animals. That are 13 hasp~rals. Sf rival live stock

health. Table 3.12 provides details relating to the L~vc stack population in Chittoor
district.
Agricultural operations will fail due to seasonal fluctuation. Chinaor Distrid

Table 4.14 shows the total gcognrphical am of Chinoor di#ricl is 14.98 lakh

4.16 IRRIGATION DEVELOPMENT
Water is a vital input to increase agnculhlral output to L a p pacc with thc food
requirements of the ever increasing population. lmgati~n is the lik blood of
agricultural development. There & 8 medium imgation projects in the district Viz.
Swarnamuke, Aranornar, Meallimadugu, Kalmgi, Bahuda. Siddalapdi Pmjacts,
Krishnapuram Reservoir and Peddlers Project. Thar arc 75 12 minar imgation tanks
birth a total yacht of 54,336.14 hectares. The particulars relating to the sourcbwisc
area imgated in the district are presented in table 4.16.
Indicates that tube wells, filter points and dug wclls ere rhc pmbminant
sources of imgation in the district, accounting for 90.01 per cent of the net arer
imgated in 2009-2010 as against 5 1.94 per cent to 1979-88. Tanks elm constitute r
major sources of imgation accounting for about 9.69 per cent of net area imlJltsd in
2009-2010 as against 68.23 per cent. Net imptcd area has tncrtased from 82794
hectares in 1991 -1 992 to 16272 1 hectares in 2007-20011 which has i n d 1.92
times (79927 hectares) ova period of 17 ycan i a t a i t i n d to 191 222 hod.ra
The major crops of the district are paddy, gmundnut. ru(plrune, bajn d jowu uc
ragi, coarse gains and pulses. Among thew mps. grclundnut, bajn d jmv we dm
raised as dry crops. In terms of area, paddy stands first in LC dtrtrict, oosupylnp 27.57
per cent of total cultivated are in 2009-2010. The ddPlls of the area under d i f f m t
