Program

“Under a Cider Moon . . .

a Celebration of Autumn” Presented by the

Bur Oak Land Trust

Friday, October 21, 2016

The Mission of Bur Oak Land Trust is to protect and conserve the natural areas of Johnson and surrounding counties for future generations. Fulfilling that mission requires not only experienced and dedicated individuals, but also substantial resources. Your contributions pro-vide these vital resources to advance and sustain this effort.

It is often suggested that we should think globally while acting locally. Through our participation in the Land Trust Alliance, we are involved in the broad issues that shape land conservation across the country and around the world. This participation inspires and energizes us to enhance our local quality of life through the acquisition and management of natural lands and to share the benefits associated with these conservation efforts with the community.

Your participation is an essential part of our local Green Movement. The stakes are high because the highly diverse area of eastern Iowa that we live in is increasingly threatened by development while the land worth saving disappears. We firmly believe that the successful achievement of the Bur Oak Land Trust mission will significantly enhance the quality of your life, the quality of your children’s lives and those of future generations.

On behalf of the organization, we want to express our sincere appreciation for your generous and continuing support. May you find peace and joy in the great out-doors.

In honor of Nancy Seiberling, the Bur Oak Land Trust invites you to become a member of our Nancy Seiberling Circle. The Nancy Seiberling Circle is a special group of Bur Oak Land Trust members who donate $1,000 or more annually. These members have an appreciation and dedication to local land conservation that would have truly made Nancy proud.

Nancy Seiberling was the driving force behind the origin of the Johnson County Heritage Trust (now Bur Oak Land Trust), founded in 1978. Nancy appreciated the natural beauty of Johnson County and wanted to make sure that others would be able to enjoy it long after she was gone. So she started a land trust to permanently preserve parks from development within the Iowa City area. The Trust started with just a few board members who were trying to raise awareness and appreciation for the land around us. In 1981, Nancy brought in the first big piece of land, Turkey Creek. As The Trust continued to grow, so did Nancy’s role within the organization and the community.

In addition to being a founding member of The Trust, Nancy Seiberling started Project GREEN in Iowa City. Project GREEN is an organization focused on the beautification and public landscape of the community.

Today we are proud to carry her pioneering local conservation work forward, and to form this special group of members, the Nancy Seiberling Circle. In order to join the growing list of Bur Oak Land Trust donors who support the organization in this way (see list on next page), please pro-vide your payment or pledge information to Tammy Wright, Executive Director.

Thank you!
