program lets you earn your MBA by taking individual modules, so you can maintain the right balance between your

LanguageThe MBA program in Business & IT is given in English. The MBA programs in Food & Finance and Public & Private are
given primarily in Dutch, but also require a reasonable command of English.
Practice-orientedIn the course of the program, you will be applying your newly acquired knowledge directly in your work. At the end of
each module, you will write a paper demonstrating that you can apply the learned knowledge in practice.
ThesisYou complete the MBA program by writing a thesis. In the graduating thesis module, you will (either individually or

Broad academic perspectiveClosing the gap between business and IT requires a change in thinking – not only on
the part of our students, but on the part of our teaching staff as well. This is some-
thing that requires constant effort and questioning of assumptions. The professors
and lecturers of Nyenrode Business Universiteit and the Delft University of Technology
work closely together in each module to challenge the participants to broaden their
scope (de-specialize) and enhance their skills. Combining the strengths of these two

Practical learningIn each module, you will be asked to apply what you have learned to your own or-
ganization. Your organization will be benefi ting from your new insights immediately,
because you will be working on improving business processes, redesigning your
portfolio management system, quantifying the value of technology in your business,
analyzing contacts with vendors and customers, and more.
Focus on leadershipIn the “Leadership and Co-operation” module you will work on skills in leadership
and cooperation in games, role-playing simulations and feedback discussions with
coaches and your fellow participants. From day one, you will be working on these skills
in our unique virtual learning environment, with management and leadership courses,
Harvard Business School publications, inspiring CEO and CIO stories, seminars, and

Demand-drivenThe continued involvement of the European CIO Association, the national CIO platforms
in the Netherlands (CIO Platform), Germany and Switzerland (VOICE) as advising
resources for the academic staff, establishes a close connection with the demand
side of the market for CIOs. This will ensure that the program continues to produce
a new generation of CIOs who answer to that demand. The link between supply and
demand will foster a productive and enduring dialogue with CIOs and other C-level
executives about the profi le of tomorrow’s CIO.
International programThis MBA program in Business & IT is part of a European educational project under
the umbrella of the European CIO Association. Participating universities are Nyenrode
Business Universiteit, Delft TopTech, TU München and University Sankt Gallen. More
universities in other countries will follow. The modules are interchangeable, thus
allowing you to switch universities and to gain a real European experience.
Existing MBA programs pay too little attention to IT, while
most IM or IT Master’s programs tend to focus on technology
rather than on business. Under the motto ‘Closing the Gap,’
the MBA in Business & IT integrates both these areas of enter-
prise. This program frames IT and business as two sides of the
same coin. Our goal is to eliminate the gap in our thinking
between them, and you will be constantly challenged to bridge
that gap. We will be discussing a wide variety of interesting
issues using many examples, case studies and discussions on
business/IT integration from a unifi ed perspective. These top-
ics will appeal to any business manager or ICT manager and will
help you change the way you look at business in IT and IT
in business.
I chose a Modular Executive MBA program at Nyenrode because, as an entrepreneur and specialist, I need

What a participant says
The complete Modular Executive MBA program will take a minimum of two and a half years, and consist of 10 modules.
The order of the modules is up to you, so you can choose topics relevant to what is happening in your work. Depending
on the time you have available, you can take one or two modules at a time. Be advised that each module involves an
average time commitment of 10 to 12 hours per week. This allows you to work towards your MBA at your own pace, and
even take a break in your studies for a period of time if you need to. You can also follow individual modules, even if you are
not pursuing the entire MBA program.
The modules generally have a duration of six months, with three meetings within that period, of two days each, for lectures
and tutorials. Between these meetings, you have four weeks to read the literature, write up cases and papers, and give
feedback on others’ work. Upon successful completion of each module, you will receive a certifi cate.
There are two moments per year you can start the program, one in September and one in January. In each of the two
periods per year, you have a choice of 4 to 5 modules.
In addition to the MBA in Business & IT, Nyenrode also conducts two “sister programs” with exactly the
same structure, but using different examples, cases and lecturars. You select a program based on your
background or interests, but can also shop around with the “neighbours” and take one or two similar
modules in the other MBA programs. This gives you the opportunity to not only broaden your development
but work with participants in other sectors.

Public and Private are two different domains, each with their own culture, and so cooperation
