1. Background of Project:

Dailekh is a naturally beautiful and culturally rich district of Mid-western Development. Since

the district is geographically situated mid hill of Nepal, the district is one of the least developed

and difficulties for transportation due to remoteness. Communities are not less conscious in

regard to woman, youth and child rights. Most of the people inhibiting this district have been

facing extreme poverty, social discrimination, backwardness, food scarcity and illiteracy. With

realizing these ground realities, SOSEC Dailekh & Dalit Jagaran Center have jointly been

working in two VDCs (Bansi & Bindabasini) of Dailekha through Women, youth & child right

promotion project from 1st July 2011. This project was financially supported by AEI

Luxembourg/TDH Germany South Asia Nepal program.

This project was implemented with coordination District Development Committee, District

Education Office, Women Development Office, District Children Welfare Committee, District

Administration Office and District Police Office. This project has been reaching every

household of project areas with the goal of support for social transformation and improves in

knowledge, attitude, practice and status of communities in the context of woman, youth and

child right through social mobilization.

After lunching this project in these two VDCs, children, women & youth of the VDCs are

organized in respective child clubs, women groups and youth clubs. Likewise they have

initiated different sensitizing programme such as right based campaign, community awareness

program through lobbying and advocacy.

2. Significance:

Both Basi and Bindhyabasini VDCs are least developed VDCs of the district where majority of

people have been facing food scarcity, social discrimination such as dominancy of so called

higher castes to so called Dalit. Poverty, illiteracy, hunger, conservative thinking and violence

against women are very pathetic. Moreover, women rights, child rights and youth rights are

either violated or ignored due to lack of clear understanding in family, community. Socio-

economic condition of the area is very poor and government service delivery is either

insufficient or not access to poorer sect (particularly to women, child, youth, dalit and janajati)

of community particularly. Therefore, this project has lunched for improving social and

financial status of woman, youth and child with sensitizing and enjoying their rights.

3. Goal:

Improved living standard (Social status) through improvement of health of women and

promotion of education of children and facilitating youth to earn in their own area

Objectives:

To improve in social and health status of women.

To increase participation of community and campaign of child admission in school.

To increase participation of youth in Village development program.

4. Human Resources Mobilization:

Human Resources Mobilization is one of the part of social mobilization and accomplishment

of targeted achievements. Qualified and experienced human resources have been mobilization

in the working areas for the better implementation of the program and to provide qualitative

services in the community to the target groups. In this project SOSEC have mobilized different

expertise for project implementation. Total seven staffs were mobilized on the working area,

out of which five were Dalit & two were non-Dalit -3 male & 4 female. Details of staffs are

given in below.

5. Completed Project Activities on working area

1. Formation of Parents Association (PA):

Total 15 Parent Associations (5 in Bansi and 8 in Bindhyabasini VDC) have formed with for

sensitizing parents to their children’s school education through creating conducive

environment at home and schools for children production and better education. Although there

are 13 schools & 11 ECDs in these two VDCs, PAs have formed with considering schools and

ECDs locations and children in flux area (catchment area). 117 members are mobilized for

child right protection in these two VDCs. They are more sincere for care & protection of their

children in family, community and schools. PAs have regularly been conducting meetings and

discussing on child right & their education.

2. Formation of Child, Youth clubs & self help groups with mobilization

This program focused on child right protection at working area mobilizing different groups -

mother groups/SHGs, youth groups & child clubs with Covering tow VDCs of the project area.

Total 22 child clubs, 12 youth clubs & 24 women groups formed and mobilized for sensitizing

and protection of child rights at the project area. Two VDC level networks were formed to

perform different activities in coordinate manner that support to protect child rights and

provide child friendly environment within family, society and schools/ECDs. They are

regularly monitoring & mobilizing the members for child education.

Chart 1 depicts clear information of the child clubs, women groups, youth clubs and respective

networks in the two VDCs. These groups jointly organized and initiated different child rights

sensitizing activities at local level with coordinating schools, ECDs and VDCs with mobilizing

members. They also celebrated different national & international child day thereby children

can realize their rights at the family, society and schools that supports enjoying child rights.

The table 1 shows the details of child clubs, women groups/SHGs and youth clubs which

formed in the project area and are functioning to date.

During the project period, total 627 (621 women and 6 male), 160 youths and 246 children are

organized in 24 women groups/SHGs, 12 youth clubs and 22 child clubs respectively.

3. Children's program- picnics, games

SOSEC Dailekh organized child related different activities such as commemoration of

International Child Day, games, picnics, quiz contest in coordination with different child clubs

& child networks. The contests carried out are as follows.

– HIV AIDS speech competition within 12 child club in Bansi in presence of more than

350 people to sensitize about HIV AIDs & safe sexual relationship & blood transmitted

disease.

– International Child Right Day celebrated at Bansi VDC with coordinating the child

clubs. In this program, children organized

folk song competition within 12 child

clubs in presence of more than 400

people from teachers, students, mother

groups, youth club, School Management

– A Speech competition about “Environment pollution Control in Community” was

organized at Bansi VDC. In the program children studying at the local schools from 9

clubs were participated on this contest. SOSEC Dailekh rewarded to the winners under

the WYC project. More than 300 people were aware about environment pollution at

local level and its control and preventive measures through this program. After

participate this contest, member of Adhikari Child Club also participated on the district

level essay competition.

– A speech program was organized about child rights on the auspicious of National

Children Day at Bansi VDC in presence of more than 550 parents, SMC, teachers, YC,

CC Political parties & other stakeholders. 12 child clubs were participated and SOSEC

Dailekh rewarded to the best club.

– Child clubs were organized and participated on different social works like school sanitation

program, supporting on International Women Day, Celebration & participation on world

GARVA NIRODH Day (5th World Pregnant Control Day). Child clubs also raised voices

and submitted application to allocate VDC budget on child right activities, with making

different code of conduct on schools such as keeping mobile in silent in school class room

and prohibited smoking and drinking at school premises and its surrounding.

– Likewise on the Occasion of International Child Right day, in Bindabasini VDC, child

clubs were organized a club level quiz contest with coordinating local schools. After this

event child club are conducting different child related activities in coordination with

schools, women groups and youths in the VDC that support to improve learning habit of

children and participation on different social program. Child clubs of Bindhyabasini also

organized a folk song competition at the child club level on occasion of National Child Day

consequently children are regular organizing these types of extra-curricular activities every

Friday at their schools . DAC Dailekh rewarded to the best club for motivate them.

Currently members of child clubs usually collect some money from their parents to

organize regular ECA in their schools.

4. Children's programs - meetings with parents

Dalit Awareness Centre formed 9 Parent Associations in its working area - Bindabasini VDC

with covering all catchment area of schools situated in the VDC. Discussions were held

among the members of Parents association about child rights protection at family, society and

school in monthly meeting. Discussions with parents were done nine times in the VDC.

5. Training and orientation of government teachers :

Since teachers are the most important agent for social transformation through departing their

own knowledge to learners, SOSEC Dailekh organized training and orientation for

government teacher of the project area. In the programme child club members & youth

members were also participated. Total 43 teachers (20 male and 23 female teachers) and 17

members of School Management Committees were participated and they were sensitized on

child rights protection and child friendly learning at the school. They also prepared a plan for

non violent teaching on their school. They also committed to orient about it to their school

staff & students as well.

6. Children Development Programme (both SOSEC & DAC)

Under the project, SOSEC & DAC supported to ECDC for flooring support to make child

friendly learning room whereas there were no floor carpet at the ECD centres so early aged

children had to be sit on the open dusty floors. Now 475children are enjoying on classroom

using carpet, different child toy materials and learning materials. After the support, children

are regular going to ECDC for learning.

7. Refresher training for 22 early childhood care teachers

Dalit Jagaran center & SOSEC Dailekh organized

refresher training for ECD Facilitators (early childhood

care teachers) for two days. Total 11 facilitators of the

ECD Centers (7 from Bindabasini & 5 Bansi VDC) got

training with orientation program. After the training,

the facilitators have confidently been facilitating to

children creating child liking environment so that more

than 300 children are going to the centers regularly. During the training session, the

participants were actively engaged and they told that they had never got this type of training

in the past and District Education Office had organized a session as a formality. After the

training, learning attitude of the participant has changed noticeably. They also requested for

longer period training to see quality change of ECD Children. It also found that it is necessary

to aware parents & SMC, ECD MC & school head teacher about ECD concept in the project

area.

8. Registration of Self help and savings groups

21 self help groups have been mobilized for implementing different income generation

program with coordination different line agencies at VDC level and DDC level. Self help

groups have also been working on their own rights & child rights activities with support and

coordination of different government agencies. Total seven SHGs (women groups) of Basi

have registered at the District Agriculture Development Office (DADO), Dailekh so that these

groups were supported by the DADO for new varieties of seeds of vegetables, crops and

technical support as well. Registered groups are as follows.

9. Poster and Pamphlets on women's rights

SOSEC Dailekh published different brochure for

sensitizing to community with coordination different

agencies. SOSEC published and distributed different

Poster & pamphlets with covering women issues such

as elimination of domestic violence and Chaupadi

system on the occasion of March 8, 2012 collaboration

with WEAF Dailekh. DAC & SOSEC had also jointly

sensitized community & stakeholder on the occasion of 8th March with coordination different

stakeholders.

10. Advocacy and program against violence

Coordinating with CC, YC, SHG and the networks, SOSEC organized an interaction

programme about women rights and against domestic violence including Chhaupadi system. In

this programme total 35 people were participated. Out of which, there were 14 dalit (female 8,

male 6) and other were 21 (female 10 & male 11). After

the interaction, participants committed about reduce

different domestic violence against women, Dalit &

children along with increasing awareness on community

level on women rights and child rights. They are also

aware about effect of gender discrimination & other

social violence.

To increase aware on women issues at local level, Women Group Network of Bansi VDC

organized Teej Folk Song Contest among the women groups of the VDC on the occasion of

Teej festival, which is primarily known as a festival of women in Nepal. Through the

competition, more than 600 people (majority were women) were aware about problem &

solution of domestic violence in the community level. Participated also tried to deliver a

message to the community level about domestic violence particular physical & mental torture

against women by their male counterparts. The program was live broadcasted on local FM

radio. At the moment, an elder women age of 84 was felicitated by the network for her

significant contribution raising women issues at local level.

11. Awareness and activation of public health services for women (Meetings with health

office.)

SOSEC Dailekh organized one day orientation workshop in Bansi VDC about health services

delivery status of Local Health Post for women. This workshop was fruitful in the sense In-

charge of the post provided detail information about health services & health support to women

and children which has been delivering from government side. Moreover the in-charge also

highlighted problems which the post has been facing. Regional health Office staff, District

health post & SOSEC staff were also facilitated on the workshop. Total 30 people (3 male &

27 female) were participated on the workshop representing from women groups, youth club,

and community level stakeholders of the VDC. After this orientation local people are aware

about health facility providing at local Health Post. Likewise, in facilitation of DAC, an

orientation program on health services was conducted in Bindabasini Health Post. In-charge of

the health post also orientated & shared information regarding current health facility and

services at the post. Total 35 stakeholders were

participated in the programme and they raised the

local health problems and insufficient services and

facilities of the health post as well. Now people also

are taking sincerely not only with their family but

also their neighbors about health service of people

specially women & children.

SOSEC Dailekh organized public hearing program at Basi Health Post Office about problem

of health, Issue of health sector, challenges of health service delivery at the VDC, future plan

of health office to reduce newly born child and child mortality rate and mother mortality rate.

More than 70 people participated in this programme.

After this program pregnant women of the VDC have

regular been visited to the health post to take Iron

tablet & regular pregnancy check up on hospital.

Numbers of local people for taking health services from the health post have been increased

after the program since Health Post Management Committee has actively been involving to

improve health post facilities and services and to motivate local community to go to the health

post for regular health check up and treatment. As a consequence, dependency to local shaman

(witchcraft) has decreased due to health consciousness and trust to the health post. Members of

the CC, YC, SHG, teachers, and general people have been playing a crucial role to send patient

to the health post rather than local shaman as a campaign.

13. Commemoration of special days- World women day,

SOSEC Dailekh and DAC Dailekh commemorated

special days – International Women Day, National

Freedom Day & Reproductive Health Day in

coordination/collaboration of Women network,

Youth network, child network, schools and other

local stakeholders with organizing different activities

in Bansi & Bindabasini VDC respectively.

-16 days campaign of against of women violence celebrates on working VDC:

Women network, child net work, youth network & different female groups organized 16 days

campaign of the 21st International against Women Violence at community level. It was started

from VDC level workshop coordinating with women network & other stakeholders. Members

of the groups were orientated after the ward (settlement) level meeting with stakeholders about

women violence & girl education with role of parents. As a consequence of the campaign, they

decided with minute making to control alcoholic & other addiction at community level,

behavior of some youths who were regular addiction of alcohol, smoking, and other addiction

have improved to some extent and some stopped to drink wine completely due to increasing

awareness. The clubs, the groups and the networks have been conducting regular meeting and

monitoring to reduce women violence. This campaign was also celebrated at Bindabasini VDC

with organizing different activities. Women network organized an interaction program at the

VDC in presence of 49 people on last day of this campaign. After this program, a woman could

express her misery and pain due to domestic violence and local community informed about it.

– 102nd international Women Day (March 8)

International Women Day was celebrated at both Bansi & Bindabasini VDCs on the 8th

March, 2012. On the occasion of the day, the Women Network of Bansi organized folk

song competition between youth club, women groups and child clubs in which women

groups,7 youth club & 6 child club were participated on the competition. More than 600

local people were presence on the programme. Women Network, SOSEC and Jagaran

Nepal jointly awarded prize to the winner (2 child

club 2 youth clubs & 1 women group) of the

completion. SOSEC president Hira Singh Thapa,

as a chief guest of this program, distributed the

prize. The activities of the programme were live

broadcasted on Panacha Koshi FM so that

audience of more than 40 VDCs & 1 municipality

of Dailekh heard the live program.

Representatives of political parties on the programme realized that women status in

Bansi are still backward so they committed to support women programme and awareness

activities that help to reduce women violence and child right abuse in the area.

– 5th world Pregnancy Control Day (26th September 2011)

A folk song competition was held in Basi VDC under the project on the occasion of 5th

World Pregnancy Control Day in coordination and collaboration of the Women

Network. Members of 7 child clubs, 5 youth clubs & 8 Self help group were

participated in the programme. The organizer awarded prize to the winning team -2

SHG & child club. More than 450 local people were

present in the programme representing from political

parties, Mother Groups, youth clubs, child clubs &

other stakeholder of the VDC. After this programme

local people are aware about birth control & family

– World Hand Washing Day (16thOctober 2011)

World Hand Washing Day was celebrated first time at the VDCs with organizing an

interaction programme with coordination of government run Health Post at the VDCs.

More than 100 local people were participated in the programme. People were oriented

by practical hand washing by soap with six stages.

– World Food Right Day (17th October 2011)

World Food Right Day was celebrated first time in Bansi VDC to aware local

community including farmers about food rights and food security in the VDC. 65 local

people from different stakeholders were participated on the programme. They discussed

about food rights of people, local food products and make habit of using local fresh food.

– World Environmental Day (5th June, 2012)

World Environmental Day was commemorated first at Bansi VDC with organizing a

Speech Contest topic on “Environment Pollution Control in Community Level” in

coordination with child network. Members of 10 child clubs were participated on the

contest and more than 360 people were present with representing from different women

groups, youth club health staff, teacher, student & stakeholder of the VDC. The

objectives of the programme were to increase awareness to children and local

community on environmental issues and take protection measures locally and to aware

about ecological rights of children.

14. Awareness on youth rights and safe migration

SOSEC Dailekh, Dalit Network & Youth Network jointly organized an interaction program

about youth rights and safe migration In Bansi VDC in participation of 33 local youths. 14

male & 19 Male youths were discussed about youth rights and safe migration. They

highlighted migration related issues such as victimize of sexual transmitted diseases,

negligence to family by migrated male, involving addiction and negative impacts migration

(both permanent and temporary) to societies. Likewise DAC Dailekh & youth network

Bindabasini jointly organized an interaction programme about youth rights and safe migration.

Total 20 local youths (15 female and 5 male) were

participated on the programme. In the programme,

youths were primarily aware about safe migration

and things to be considered during migration

whether permanent or temporary in both country

and abroad. Now Youth on working VDC are

convincing their friend about safe situation in peer

groups in both VDCs.

15. Repair maintenance of sources of irrigation through youth group

SOSEC Dailekh supported for youth’s income generation in Bansi VDC through irrigation

support. With coordination of Santidada Women Group, Jallikhola small irrigation cannel was

constructed at Bansi 3 Jallikhola with mobilizing local youths. After construction of this

cannel, 25 house hold have benefited by irrigation support and they started to cultivate off

seasonal vegetable on their 25 Ropani land.15 households were benefited by plastic pond

support. After this support, the farmers have been regular producing cash crops i.e. Shanti

Buda earned NPR 30000 in this season 2012 & Shakti Bhandari also earned NPR 40000 same

season from his land. Now 12 youth farmers have involved in commercial farming locally.

They have been producing potato, bean, cauliflower, onion, cabbage, chili, garlic, and tomato

etc on their own land.

In coordination and active involvement of the female network, maintenance of Liude Drinking

Water Scheme was done in Bansi 1, Suwakot, thereby 137 households have access to safe

drinking water with fixing 16 tap with considering

settlement and numbers of beneficiaries. Likewise,

maintenance of Rittha Drinking Water Scheme was

also completed in Bansi 9, Basudhara. Under this

scheme, 8 taps were repaired from which 51

households have access to safe drinking water. 25

youths were oriented about maintenance and

management of tap with safe drinking water.

16. Seed money fund support to poorest groups

SOSEC Dailekh mobilized the youth clubs & the women groups for income generation in

Bansi VDC. Under this project, SOSEC supported seed money fund to seven women farmer of

6 groups on the basis of recommendation of youth clubs network and women groups. The

groups received the fund are as follows.

There is 7 youth & women groups have supported by seed money support on working area.

Out of seven, 5 farmers utilized the fund for goat farming whereas 2 farmers started vegetable

cultivation. Technician of the project have been providing technical support in the project area.

However the fund amount was little but the farmers were motivated getting technician

knowhow regularly on different agro base occupation. Due to regular technical support at the

VDC level, many farmers are motivated to change their subsistence farming practice to

commercial cash crop as well. Some started vegetable production in place of grain crop due to

more income from vegetable cultivation.

17. Dalit Jagaran - youth awareness programs on village development :

Dalit Jagaran Center organized an orientation program in Bindhyabasini VDC about youth

mobilization for community development program with coordination the youth network. In one

day orientation program youth are fully positive towards community development.

18. SOSEC /Dalit Jagaran - Staff Capacity building

Sosec Dailekh & Dalit Jagaran Center jointly coordinated and organized staff capacity building

trainings. Three staffs were participated on General TOT training organized by SOSEC,

Everest club & SUDEC with coordination Nest Pokhara for 5 days in Nepalgunj. SOSEC,

DAC and ICDP (Intrigrated community development Program) jointly organized 3 days

“Social Audit Training” in Dailekh district headquarter in participation of total 39 staff of

SOSEC including 7 project staff (SOSEC-5, DAC-2). 13 events district level staff meeting

were conducted at the SOSEC Office & the project orientation and discussions were held 4

times.

Major achievements

- 22 child clubs, 10 youth clubs & 23 women groups are formed and mobilized in the

project areas which are functional to sensitize local issues regarding children, youth,

children, and social discrimination and taking collective actions over the issues.

- SOSEC Dailekh has initiated to draw attention of local community, teachers, youths,

women and children on child rights & women rights issue in the project area.

- After lunching WYC project, Bindhyabasini and Bansi VDCs started to incorporate

youth, children & women activities with giving priority of demand submitted by

women, child and youth networks of respective VDCs.

- After discussion with parents of ECDC catchment area, community has maintained 2

class rooms of Basanta ECD Centre in Bansi in coordination and support of NPR

30000 of Bansi VDC. Community contributed NPR 20000 too.

- Child Clubs & youth groups are voluntarily supported for increasing awareness about

against domestic violence, HIV AIDS, against of child marriage & community level

sanitation program etc.

- Child clubs member are participated meaningful manner in public meeting, example

school & VDC council meeting.

- VDCs council have allocated budget for children and youth program due to strong

demand by child & youth clubs.

- Six women groups are registered at the District Agriculture Development Office. One

women group registered at the District Cooperative Office then the group was

supported for agro training and initiated commercial farming.

- VDC council allocated budget amount NPR 102,000 for two ECDC building

construction (Basanta, - NPR 40,000 Santidada – NPR 62,000)

- Women network of Bansi constructed network’s office for conducting regular meeting

and solving local problems with discussion and consensus among the women.

- Women network has been able to allocated 10% budget in office establish, toilet

construction in Dalit settlement and for woman awareness training.

- After repairing the plastic pond & maintenance of small irrigation cannel scheme, 35

households of Bansi VDC have been producing different vegetables & other agro

products.

- 195 HHs got safe drinking water in Bansi with repairing 24 taps of two drinking water

schemes in collaboration with local women groups. They have regularly been cleaning

water source of drinking water and tap.

- Children collected fund from various source which was spent in extracurricular

activities in school, conducted speech competition, and published materials about

domestic violence and sanitation of school areas. Now Adhikari Child club have

collected NPR 3000 in Bansi VDC

- Child clubs made a norms either not using of mobile phone in class room or keeping

silence which has been implementing in schools by teachers and students.

- Due to strong objections of child club network and its members, some teachers who

had come in class room and school with drinking much alcohol in that past were

stopped completely so that school environment is fully alcoholic free environment.

- Two children of Bindabasini VDC who were out of school are readmitted to school

and they are going to school regularly through social mobilization.

- Riana Devi youth network have made a notice regarding code of conduct in school

catchment area which put in school premises

- VDC Bansi allocated NPR 7000 for youth mobilization to increase participation and

involvement of youths in VDC level community development.

- Total 442 new children are enrolled in class for formal school programme in

Bindabasini & Bansi VDCs in 2012 those who were learned their pre school education

at the ECDs. Out of which some had never enrolled at the ECDs too.

- After SLC result analysis interaction program, Malika Secondary School started grade

teaching in grade 1-3 class which is new teaching practice in this VDC.

- Child marriage is reduced in the project area due to regular meeting and Interaction

among child clubs, youth clubs and women Group for stopping child marriage.

- Members of Women network & other groups have been advocating on women,

children and social discrimination issues in different forum & public program.

- Girl’s enrollment has increased by 7%at the schools in 2012. Total 203 new girls

enrolled at the schools in this year.

- Women Groups and Women Group Network have been involving positive change in

their society through making rules and its implementation for social cultural program

like marriage, delivery time, mourning culture and other social and cultural events that

could be economic and easier in changing context.

- Health post, schools, VDC & other office have committed for making child friendly,

youth friendly, female friendly environment with making plan in their offices that

support to increase access of women, youth and children in these institutions.

- Members of youth clubs & child clubs are aware about rights and role of community

and government agencies to protect their rights so that they can enjoy their rights in

their society.

- Women are organized in Women Groups and they started saving and credit

mobilization within the groups so that women are involved in income generating

activities that support to reduce women violence and increase social recognition,

dignity & social harmony.

- Some farmers are started commercial vegetable farming and high value crop

cultivation at local level.

Problems being faced in working

– Local stakeholders give least priorities to women and children issues due to poverty and

illiterate.

– Insufficient program budget due to higher demand of local communities and some

activities are required huge quantities of materials which are beyond the project budget.

– Majority of women have still been staying either in cowshed or insecure place located

outside the home during for 5-7 days of their menstruation cycle with following

Chaupadi System prevailing in the societies of the project area.

– Lack of enough ECD centers, established ECD centers has not proper infrastructure &

materials, and unqualified and untrained facilitators can't run ECD centres effectively.

– Due to lack of resource materials some of the event such as child right booklet, women

right & different new publication has hampered.

Learning experiences

– It is to better to conduct interaction program with the coordination & collaboration

between local stakeholders & health personnel to solve problem to stay at cowshed at

menstruation period.

– It is to better to draw attention of stakeholders in issues of women rights and children

rights.

– Through income generation activities, migration of local youth can be reduced.

The WGs are mobilizing saving amount NPR 1,65,250 to their members for income generating activities and in emergencies at minimum interest rate so that they do not need go to local money lenders for loan having high interest rate.

Women groups with aware about domestic violence, Chaupadi, child right & discussion about child education on public areas that resulted decrease in domestic violence against women, chhaupadi system, child marriage and increased women participation in social activities.

Women are organized in Women groups and they can put their voices and demands strongly to the local service providers. Women Group Network facilitated to put a demand of safe drinking water scheme to the VDC for Dalit Settlement which was materialized and 16 water tapes have installed for drinking water with sanitation.

7 Self-help groups have registered to the District Agricultural Development Office (DADO) Dailekha in Fiscal Year 2011/12 then these g groups were supported for seeds of different vegetables, technical support by the DADO.

1.3 Advocacy and programs against violence

1. Workshops would be organized at the VDC level every year involving the local government officials, government officials from women and District Child Welfare Committee, Police Officers and lawyer and judge, journalist, political leaders, members from women groups against domestic violence, gender discrimination, child marriage, Child labor etc.

16 day campaign against women violence was organized in Bansi VDC with participation of 178 local people (108 female and 70 male).

With mobilizing women groups, child clubs and youth clubs and their VDC level network, different awareness activities against women violence, child labour, child marriage, caste discrimination were organized.

Due to above mentioned activities, women and local communities are aware on women, children, and social issues so that women violence are decreased; women can take part in different social activities; higher caste and lower caste people can sit together and eat together; caste base discrimination in public places decreased; child marriage cases have remarkably decreased and almost children are regularly going to schools and male have recognized women contribution in household income.

Bindabasini VDC allocated NPR 26, 000 for women groups.

Members of 10 groups of Bindhyabasini VDC has initiated saving and credit so that they are saving NPR 142,454 which are mobilizing as loan to their members in low interest rate.

1.9 Public Hearing (SOSEC and DALIT JAGRAN)

1. Every year child club members would be taken for picnics; cultural programs and sports events would be organized.

2.5 Early Childhood Development

11 ECD centers have been running and try to maintain their norms.

368 children (189 girls and 189 boys) of 3-5 years age group have been enjoying in ECD centre. Out of which 261 children of Bindhyabasini and 107 of Bansi VDC are enjoying in 11 ECD centres.

DAC has supported for 6 government run ECD centers in Bindhyabasini.

2.6 Dalit Jagaran Centre

A. Children's programs - meetings with parents

1. Parents Association would be formed in all the villages (9 ward level) to ensure daily attendance of children in school, monitor proper functioning of schools, discuss problems related to schools with the village authorities and get it solved. Their monthly meetings would be facilitated

9 Parent Associations have formed in Bindhyabasini VDC.

Dalit Jagaran center have facilitated to conduct meeting of PA & formation of PA on school catchment area for child education of working area.

Parents Association have been conducting regular meeting on their catchment area.

Parents are more aware to improve basic facilities in the ECD centres.

3.1 Formation of youth groups and awareness on youth rights and safe migration

1. Youth groups would be formed in 5 villages. Awareness sessions would be conducted regarding rights of youths, safe migration, livelihood opportunities within their villages etc.

9 youth clubs & 1 VDC level youth club network have been formed and mobilized for awareness rising on youth right, safe migration.

SOSEC, Dalit Network and Youth Network joint have organized and interaction programme about youth rights, and Safe migration in Bansi VDC. 33 local youths (14 female and 19 male) participated on the programme.

They highlighted migration related issues such as victimizing of sexual transmitted diseases, negligence to family by the migrated male, involving in addiction and social crime and other negative impacts and its prevention and mitigation.

3.2 Repair maintenance of sources of irrigation (plastic ponds) through youth group

1. 3 No. of plastic ponds would be repaired/ constructed. 3 ponds will irrigate 1.5 hectors of land of 50 farmers.

2. This will help in increasing production

3. This will be given to 50 youths from 3 villages and cultivation would be done in 1.5 hectares of land

2 no. of plastic pounds have repaired and started to irrigation of productive areas of farmer.

Fresh vegetable and other crops have been cultivated and production has been ongoing.

Support has been done through youth groups. 2 drinking water schemes repairing with 24 taps

have completed thereby 188 HHs got safe drinking water with clean & sanitation.

45 Ropani land of 35 farmers has irrigated with involving 15 youths in vegetable production.

3.3 Small drop water supply system

1. This will be given to 250youths for kitchen garden

2. Minor irrigation and drinking water support will be given to youths on the revolving basis

Kitchen gardens have been promoted at available of irrigation facility.

Support has been ongoing. 2 drinking water schemes maintenance have

completed with mobilizing local youth in small support.

Now 197 households have earned some income with initiating production of vegetables on their kitchen garden.

3.4 Users committees training for the youth (meetings)

1. Users committee would form for 5 involving 75 Youths.

2. Their trainings would be organized twice in a year regarding the youth involvement in community development

Jallikhola Small Irrigation Cannel Maintenance committee of 25 members have formed and mobilized to complete the canal maintenance.

Liude Drinking Water Scheme Maintenance Committee of 137 has formed to complete the project.

Rittha Drinking Water Scheme Maintenance Committee has formed to complete the project.

Memers of the User committees have got orientation about maintaince of drinking water & mobilization.

3.5 Seed money fund support to poorest groups

1. Economically weaker group will be given financial support to start income generation activity.

2. 3 groups of 45 person would be supported for fresh vegetable, cash crop, etc.

NPR 30 thousand has supported as seed money to 5 poorest groups of Bansi VDC.

Some seed of fresh vegetable & cash crops have been supported to farmers of program areas.

The seed money has utilized by 7 youth women (7 for goat farming and 2 for vegetable cultivation).

Farmers of the VDC have started to cultivate vegetables (seasonal and off seasonal) in place of traditional farming of crops having low productivity and income.

8 farmers have started off seasonal vegetable farming.

A. Youth awareness programs on village development

A. 3 Youth groups would be formed in 3 villages. Awareness sessions would be conducted regarding rights of youths, livelihood opportunities within their villages etc. They will also be motivated to get themselves involved with developmental issues pertaining to their village.

1 VDC level Youth clubs network has formed and mobilized.

They are aware on right of youths. They are also discussed on VDC plan process with orientation so Bindhyabasini VDC allocated budget in 2011/12 fiscal year for child program with lobbying of youth network.

DAC organized an orientation programme in Bindhyabasini VDC about youth mobilization in community development activities and safe migration with coordination of Youth Network.

Participants are positive towards their involvement in community development and orientated on different issues and problems they have been facing while they go to other cities and countries for work.

Youth has initiated to discuss about safe migration in their peer group.

In Bindabasini VDC, total 24 youth were participated with 18 female youth female on safe migration awareness program.

Awareness on safe migration in both VDCs has been increasing in youth circle.

Conclusion Women, Youth & Child right project has implementation by SOSEC Dailekh & Dalit Awareness center

DAC Dailekh are jointly working on Bansi & Bindabasini VDCs in coordination with different district &

community level stakeholders.WYC project has jointly implemented coordinating with different child

clubs, youth clubs, & women groups (SHGs). The project has also cooperated with school, teachers,

parents, ECD facilitators, SMC member, health personnel, community forest user groups & other user

groups, WYC project has smoothly implemented on working VDCs. WYC project has enabled to orient

on child right, women right & youth rights on working area. This project has also supported to those

children who were out of school programme/dropped out for continue their school education.

Communities have appreciated to TDH Germany/AEI Luxembourg for financial support through SOSEC

Dailekh & DAC Dailekh who directly involved in project implementation. By and larage, the project has

successfully completed and local communities has been expecting for continuing support of Tdh

Germany/AEI Luxembourg to improve socioeconomic status of local people through projects in future

too.
