The Green Technology Academy prepares students for emerging green careers in industry and with natural resource management agencies such as the Natural Resource Conservation Service, U.S. Forestry Service, National Park Service and the Bureau of Land Management. During the course, students learn the scien- tifc concepts and skills needed to become technicians in water and soils conservation, habitat restoration, ecological feld data collection and interpretation, geospatial technologies, biodiver- sity management, and sustainable agriculture practices. After a brief history of the PG&E Hinkley Groundwater Remediation program, the students were given a tour of the agricultural treat- ment system, and learned how it is able to convert chromium 6 to chromium 3. The students were also shown where in-situ treat- ment occurs and how it treats groundwater at the source. Whole House Replacement Water System installations Make Progress

Hinkley residents may notice bustling activity at many neighboring homes. Since PG&E's Whole House Replacement Water program began last year, the first few of many whole house treatment systems have been installed and are fully operational. The systems have proven to safely, effectively and reliably remove chromium 6 from water to non-detect levels.

Over the next few months, PG&E anticipates 20 new systems will come online. As the systems are installed, Hinkley residents may see trucks carrying the systems and their 2,500 gallon storage tanks to eligible residents’ homes.

Placing the systems and storage tanks on residents' property is one of the first steps to installation. After the systems are placed, the entire installation—from laying new electrical and plumbing to treated water flowing through the taps in a home—can take up to four months. As the systems are installed, PG&E will also conduct performance tests to ensure they meet our high operating and water treatment standards.
