Goals for this 2-part lesson:

•Learn to illustrate a main character in a story using the “Paint” program and by following website instructions and save for future use.

•Learn a new skill of having 2 windows open at the same time.

•Using a graphic organizer, the students will write a short story using 4-6 sentences having a beginning, middle, and an end.

•The student will learn how to copy and paste.

Goal #1: Learn to illustrate a main character in a story and save for future use. [integration]

The students are having a visit to our school from an illustrator who will show them all aspects of being an illustrator. The classroom teachers are doing activities with their classes leading up to the illustrator’s visit and some wanted to add the computer lab to their activities.

I will explain to the students that they will become not only an illustrator today, but an author as well.

They are to choose a main character from a list on a website that I will give them. They will follow the example from the website to illustrate their main character using the program Paint. How To Dra

Goal #2: Learn a new skill of having 2 windows open at the same time.

When the main character is complete, they will save their drawing to their H:drive folders for future use.

Goal #3: Using a graphic organizer, the students will write a short story using 4-6 sentences having a beginning, middle, and an end [integration]

Kidspiration

The students will then copy and paste their illustration into the graphic organizer, Kidspiration, where they will write a 4-6 sentence story with a beginning, middle and an end.

Goal #4: The student will learn how to copy and paste.

When their Kidspiration story is complete, 2 copies will be printed… one for the student to take home and one to be hung in the main hall with all the other Steven James Petruccio posters.
