Adriatic LNG Adriatic LNG terminal is the first offshore concrete LNG terminal in the world. The terminal, which started production in 2008, is operated by Adriatic LNG (owned by affiliates of Qatar Petroleum, ExxonMobil and Edison). This terminal will secure Italy’s increasing long-term energy requirements.

Pazflor FPSOPazflor is a large scale development covering over 600 km2 with water depths of between 600 - 1,200 m as well as a world first technological development of gas / liquid separation on the seabed right next to production wells. The FPSO uses tried and tested techniques refined on the existing FPSO’s of Dalia and Girassol continuing the development of Block 17, located 150 km off the coast of Angola.

Inter-Refineries Pipeline Phase IIThe TAKREER Inter-Refineries Pipeline project will transfer product between Ruwais, UAN and the ADNOC Distribution depot at Mussafah, which forms a critical element of the OGD-II and AGD-III projects. With a total length of 955 km of pipeline ranging from 10 to 28 inches in diameter, the planned pipeline network connecting the refineries with various terminals in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi will be capable of covering the increase in demand in refined petroleum products for the foreseeable future.

El MerkThe El Merk block is located approximately 300 km south east from Hassi Messaoud in the remote Sahara Desert. The Sahara Desert has one of the harshest climates and environments in the world, where sand storms and “dust devils” are prevalent. Wind can often reach hurricane speeds across this vast empty plain. The El Merk project will accommodate the processing of existing fluids sourced from the HBNS / HBN sites (the CCTV system of which was also provided by Synectics in 2001) approx 80 km away as well as processing the new Blocks forming a production hub for the region.

GorgonLocated 130 km off the North West coast of Australia, the Greater Gorgon Gas Field is the largest single natural gas resource in Australia with hydrocarbon reserves estimated at approximately 40 trillion cubic feet. As Barrow Island is located in a Class A nature reserve, the Gorgon Project will also pioneer carbon dioxide injection technology.

Shell Pearl GTLPearl GTL is the world’s largest source of gas-to-liquids (GTL) products, producing 140,000 barrels of GTL products each day. At a cost of $18 billion Shell Pearl GTL Project, located in Ras Laffan Industrial City, Qatar, spans 2.5 square km (roughly the size of New York’s Central Park). The project has been designed to use technology that will help to limit any environmental impact. The facility is designed to use every drop of water as part of Shell’s approach to not release any liquids from the plant. Pearl GTL’s industrial water processing plant is the world’s largest; recovering, treating and re-using all the industrial process water.

KashaganThe Kashagan Field in the Caspian Sea is considered the single most important discovery in the past 30 years and is the fifth largest oilfield in the world. The offshore location of the field means that it is subject to harsh conditions, where sea ice is present during the winter months and temperatures can drop to -40°C. The giant field covers an area of 75 km x 45 km and it is currently estimated that the field holds up to 38 billion barrels of oil-in-place of which 9 billion are potentially recoverable. With associated gas re-injection, it is estimated that recoverable reserves could increase to 11 billion.

Neste OilThe NExBTL plant has a design capacity of 800,000 t/a, making it the largest facility producing diesel fuel from renewable feedstocks in the world. The use of biofuels such as NExBTL is predicted to increase rapidly in developed economies over the next few years. NExBTL technology is the first commercial new-generation renewable diesel production process, and can use any vegetable oil or animal fat as its input.

BP Clair RidgeThe Clair Ridge Project is the second phase of development in the Clair Field which is located approximately 60 km west of Shetland extending over an area of 220 km² in water depths of approximately 140 m. Oil will be exported via the existing pipeline to Sullom Voe Terminal and associated gas will be transported via existing infrastructure to the beach. Production is scheduled to commence in 2016 and will continue for 40 years. It is estimated that the development will produce around 120,000 barrels of oil per day and will provide a vital ‘hub’ for future expansion in the area. Gale force winds, hurricanes, severe storms can be expected, especially in winter, in the North Sea, therefore the structure and any equipment located on it must be designed to withstand such force.
