What is Project Search? • A franchise model which began at Cincinnati
Childrens Hospital in 1996• Now over 500 sites around the world; 14 in
Scotland; 7 where NHS is the host business and 2 in Glasgow (one where the NHS is the host business)
• Strict guidelines about how to develop and deliver a Project Search site called “model fidelity”
• All sites are audited by independent Project Search staff
• Delivered by a number of partners working together

How does Project Search work?
• The aim is full time employment for all participants • Starts August until June – an academic year • Based entirely within a host business’ premises • Delivered by different organisations working together
and pulling their resources (host business, college and supported employment service)
• 18 – 25 years• All interns have learning disabilities and / or autism• Mix between work experience and classroom based
work
Project Search – a typical day
9 – 9.45am Project Base (within the host business) – employability skills curriculum
10 – 2.45pm Work experience rotations supported by job coach / college lecturer / workplace buddy
3 – 4pm Project Base – review of day and job searching
Project Search Glasgow There are 2 host businesses in Glasgow. They are;• NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde based at the
Royal Infirmary with Clyde College Glasgow and Glasgow City Council Supported Employment Service. This is the fifth operational year for partners.
• University of Strathclyde in its fourth year with City of Glasgow College; Glasgow City Council Supported Employment Service and Autism Network Scotland
Project Search Progress and Outcomes
Project Search Scotland job outcomes Project SEARCH in Scotland - Started in 2010, by 2017….. • 356 young people started• 316 completed• 219 full time jobs• 69.3% success rate
Project Search Glasgow - NHS site outcomes Project SEARCH on the PS NHS Site in GLASGOW • 44 young people started• 42 completed • 37 full time jobs (24 employed to various roles
within the NHS (22 within NHS GGC Hospitals) • 84% success rate
Business benefits
TURNOVEROf the 22 graduates employed within GGC hospitals21 remain in permanent employment and 1 employee has voluntarily left the organisation for another job.• This represents a turnover of 4.5%, against an
average turnover for Facilities Management at QEUH of between 15% and 20%.
Business benefits ABSENCEOf 21 employees with varying lengths of service from 5 to 44 months, • 9 have no absence at all• 9 have a level of absence lower than the departmental
average• 3 have an average absence greater than departmental
average (However, 1 is lower than Organisational Target of 4% and the other 2 are lower than their departmental average when looking only at the last 12 months)
Longer term “in work” support
In work support is a key ingredient required for sustainability
Supported Employment Service supports people in work with job coaching; training for employers; signposting to money advice provision
NHS GGC now have 23 Project Search graduates employed across the Board area
Job coach funded by Access To Work – evaluation points to this post contributing to the low turnover and absence rates
