This meant that the end of the existing slipway was left approximately one metre above beach level, making the launching of boats a difficult and hazardous activity. Solution: TMS Maritime were employed by Babbacombe Corinthian Sailing Club to extend the slipway into the sea to enable boats to be launched. The slipway then founded on mini piles and was constructed as an in-situ reinforced concrete deck connected to the existing slipway. Timber fendering was then installed to the sides of the slipway. All of the works were completed in the tidal zone and the falsework and formwork for the new concrete deck had to be installed and removed during the largest spring tides of the year. Access to the working area was restricted by a low funicular railway bridge, which meant that the works had to be carried out using relatively small sizes of plant. Project Case Study
