General description of scheme and requirements

The proposal is for a two storey building with a mono pitch sloping roof tobe positioned alongside the new access road. The building is of simplerectilinear form with the separate entrance areas to the Youth Club andJudo Club both access from a glazed ‘cut out’ in the dominant corner ofthe building which faces the main access road and entrance to the site.

The building will be constructed by either a concrete frame or steel frame with

Due to the internal arrangements, the north and west facades of the main volumewill have no window openings and will provide a clean external façade for whichlarge graphics can be placed to animate the façade. The south and east façadeare less visible from the roadside and entrance and will contain all necessaryglazing and escape doors for the internal arrangement of the building. Horizontallouvers will provide solar shading to the glazing on the south façade.

The main vehicle and pedestrian access to the site is via HeathlandsDrive from the west of the site. A new, wider access road, runningeast to west across the site is proposed to give access to the existingambulance service building and the proposed Youth Centre/JudoClub via separate entrances. Both buildings will also have separate,

the adjacent site to provide access to any future developments.

The location of the new building is in a prominant location, with bothaccess to the site and the building visable as soon as visiters turn offHarpenden Road.
