proKlima introduction 1
• proKlima is the further development of underfloor heating
• Tailored to fit in with modern building technology, the system fulfils the functions of heating-cooling and ventilation and also allows the laying of cables
• The floor construction height is only 125 mm to the upper edge of the screed
• proKlima is the most cost-efficient alternative to cooling ceilings and provides a whole range of additional options and functions!
proKlima
proKlima introduction 2
• As a result of the ventilation duct beneath the heated (or ventilated) floor construction, the floor screed acts as a large additional heat exchanger.
• When either heating or cooling
is required, the usual temperature differences are reduced for output transfer.
The Principle
proKlima introduction 3
• Heat transfer takes place from the pipes to the screed AND to the airflow.
• This unique principle offers
great advantages for heating-cooling and ventilation
The Principle
• Parts of the floor construction are left hollow..
• Whilst the upper side is fitted with heating and cooling pipes, the underside serves the purpose of ventilating with help from the 30 mm gaps.
• We call this part of the floor the dynamic surface.
The Construction

proKlima introduction 5
Dynamic and static surfaces
• Dynamic surfaces are located in rooms with supply air inlet. The size is based on the air treatment (heating, cooling of the air in the floor).

The following construction is required above the upper edge of the floor:• min. 125 mm with cement screed• min. 115 mm with floating screed

proKlima introduction 8
• The cooled floor surface acts as thermal mass cooling in the conventional sense.
• However, by inserting air into the floor area, the performance-reducing “cold air pocket” is omitted.
• Consequently, the cooling capacity is considerably beneath the values of thermal mass activation!
Cooling
proKlima introduction 9
The regulator can take over the fundamental regulating functions to supply the heating and cooling surfaces in accordance with load.
A switch between heating and cooling takes place automatically. In addition, the corresponding supply temperature is regulated. To ensure the cooling function, a dew point sensor is connected.
System wiring
proKlima introduction 10
• During the cooling procedure, the heat transfer coefficient α on the floor amounts to about 5 W/m2K.
• By inserting air into the floor area, this value increases to approx. 8 W/m2K.
Cooling
Cooling capacity
When Vzu = 5 m3/m2h and Δt = 4 K, qK is approx. 50-70 W/m2.

• Near floor-to-ceiling windows, slot outlets ensure a thermally optimal compensation of the glass surfaces.
• Furthermore, round inlet openings can also be provided as induction or air outlets.
• For a curtaining effect on large window surfaces, our system partner Krantz TKT can fit special outlets.

• In August 2006, a 2001 system was examined by TÜV Rheinland.
• The system performed outstandingly and without complaint

Living and working in “Siebengebirge”
A new district developsOver 100 years after the opening of Cologne’s Rheinauhafen, this once lively handling site is experiencing an ambitious conversion.
Living in the “Siebengebirge”The building is divided into individual houses in accordance with the gables. Each has its own development core. On the upper storeys, a total of 138 apartments were created with a view of the Rhine.
Working in “Siebengebirge ”The ground floors of the building are reserved for purely commercial purposes.
In a building with demanding tenants, contemporary building services are:
• Thermal comfort in winter and in summer.
• Supplying the offices and conference areas with fresh and filtered air.
• Installation of an electrical and media supply which is as invisible as possible.
The release speed of the air is max. 0.2 m/s and is nearly unnoticeable.

The North Rhine-Westphalian federal state government is creating a new state prize for architecture, residential development and urban planning. The state prize is to be awarded at regular intervals in the future for current focal topics. The first federal prize concentrates on the issue of “Energy-efficient Construction for the Future”. The contractors are the Ministerium für Bauen und Verkehr (ministry of construction and transport) together with the Ministerium für Wirtschaft, Mittelstand und Energie (ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy) of North Rhine-Westphalia of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Firm cooperative partners for this award procedure are the Architektenkammer Nordrhein-Westfalen (chamber of architects) and the Ingenieurkammer Bau Nordrhein-Westfalen (North Rhine-Westphalian chamber of engineers) for this year’s topical prize.

EnvironmentPossibly the most important goal!
Consumption of less energy whilst maintaining the highest level of living and working comfort has become possible.
In heating operationThrough low system temperatures in comparison to convectors or underfloor heating
In cooling operationBy using geothermal probes or groundwater for passive cooling without aditional cooling devices
