Let’s review factors
What are factors? If I want to find all the
factors of a certain number,
what number do I start with? How do we know when
to stop?

Let’s Review some other things we’ve learned
• What are some multiplication combinations we can use to build arrays for the number 12?
![Page 5: Properties of Numbers Prime Time! Squares! Puzzles](https://reader036.vdocument.in/reader036/viewer/2022062312/551aa2f9550346e0158b5a13/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
Learning Goals
• Identify a number as prime or composite• Identify square numbers
• Use number characteristics such as these to solve problems.

Guiding Questions
How can number properties help me solve problems?
How can number properties help me decide which strategy to use?
![Page 7: Properties of Numbers Prime Time! Squares! Puzzles](https://reader036.vdocument.in/reader036/viewer/2022062312/551aa2f9550346e0158b5a13/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
Focus
• There are some numbers that only have one array (one multiplication combination). Turn and talk with your partner, and see if you can find four of them.
These numbers have a special name, does anyone know what it is?
![Page 8: Properties of Numbers Prime Time! Squares! Puzzles](https://reader036.vdocument.in/reader036/viewer/2022062312/551aa2f9550346e0158b5a13/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
Prime Numbers
• Those numbers are called “Prime Numbers”. Turn and talk with your partner, and come up with a definition for Prime Numbers.
![Page 9: Properties of Numbers Prime Time! Squares! Puzzles](https://reader036.vdocument.in/reader036/viewer/2022062312/551aa2f9550346e0158b5a13/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
Composite Numbers
• Numbers with more than one multiplication combination are called Composite Numbers. Turn and talk with your partner to identify some of these numbers.
![Page 10: Properties of Numbers Prime Time! Squares! Puzzles](https://reader036.vdocument.in/reader036/viewer/2022062312/551aa2f9550346e0158b5a13/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
SQUARE NUMBERS• Now, let’s see if we can create a square out of an
array. First you have to know what makes a square a square….hmmm
• Can you and your partner use the tiles to come up with an array that is a square? Try It!
These are called “square” numbers. Talk with your partner, and seeif you can come up with a definition for square numbers!
![Page 11: Properties of Numbers Prime Time! Squares! Puzzles](https://reader036.vdocument.in/reader036/viewer/2022062312/551aa2f9550346e0158b5a13/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
Puzzle Time!
• Because you are all so awesome at Math, you are now going to work on a number puzzle!
• Your answer must fit the clue.
![Page 12: Properties of Numbers Prime Time! Squares! Puzzles](https://reader036.vdocument.in/reader036/viewer/2022062312/551aa2f9550346e0158b5a13/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
Ready?
• This number of tiles will make a rectangle that is 2 tiles wide.
Use your tiles to model some numbers. Then draw the array in your journal and
label the dimensions! Don’t forget to write the equation!

Sharing Strategies
• What strategies did you use to solve the problem? Use chart paper and markers and use a flow map to show your thinking.
