Protebio®

Protebio® is a vegetable protein supplement which can be conve-niently added to our daily food. Protebio is made of sunflower seeds from certified organic agriculture by means of natural extraction processes which help the preservation of its excellent nutritional qualities.

What is Protebio?

Protebio® products are available on our website –www.protebio.com– and at natural and health food stores.

Where to find Protebio?

1 According to the Directive 2007/68/EC from the European Commission, from 27th November 2007, modifying the European Parliament and Council Directive 2000/13/EC, referring to certain food ingredients.

● No allergens.Protebio does not contain gluten, lactose or allergenic ingredients derived from egg, fish, soya, peanuts or other nuts .

● Practically null purine content.Purines are substances which can be found in foods such as meat, fish, soya... After being metabolized by the organism, purines become uric acid, and its excessive accumulation can cause various diseases.

● High fibre content.Fibre provides important benefits. For example, greater control over blood glucose (free blood glucose concentration). Fibre also takes part in the cholesterol and dietary fat’s absorption, thus decreasing the serum concentrations of cholesterol.

● Slow absorption proteins. This kind of proteins needs a more prolonged digestion process. Slow absorption proteins provide the metabolism with amino acids in a continuous way, necessary when the athlete will not take any food for hours. Therefore, the muscular catabolism is reduced.

● Very low fat content and low carbohydrate content. In addition, within its lipid profile, we can point out the unsaturated fatty acids: Omega 3, 6 and 9.

● High branched-chain amino acids content. The branched-chain amino acids L-Leucine, L-Isoleucine and L-Valine are indispensable for muscular synthesis and contribute to decrease the protein degradation after exercise.

● High L-Arginine content. This amino acid helps the formation of nitric oxide in the organism, thus contributing to increase the physical strength, endurance and fast growth of the muscular mass. L-Arginine favours the blood vessels dilation, which in turn, increases the blood flow, especially at muscular level.

● High Mineral and Vitamin content:Protebio contains high proportions of Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium, Phosphorus, Iron and Vitamins (Vitamin E). Calcium and Magnesium take part in muscular contraction and relaxation. Potassium regulates the water balance and the blood pressure. Vitamin E strengthens the immune system and has an important role in the metabolism. Besides, Protebio has a low Sodium content.

Proteins

Proteins main functions:

Proteins are necessary for growth and repair of body tissues. Hence the importance of a right protein contribution in sports, since it con-tributes to the muscles development and the muscular recovery after great efforts.

Proteins are part of tissues’ structure (muscles, sinews…).

Proteins perform a lot of metabolic and regulatory functions, such as nutrient assimilation, transport of oxygen and blood fats, the neutralization of toxic substances, etc.

What are proteins for?

The quality of proteins

Capacity to provide human beings with all the essential amino acids.

Net protein contribution, which is how it can be assimilated by our organism so easily.

The biological quality of a protein is measured according to:

Proteins are made up of amino acids. There are twenty protein amino acids, eight of which are essential for human life, since they must be present in nutrition; these are the so called essential amino acids. The rest of the amino acids are synthesized by the organism from the essential ones. If an essential amino acid is insufficient in the diet, this amino acid limits other amino acids being used to synthesize the protein.

Sport and proteins

The physical performance is directly related to nutrition. A sports-man who has an adequate food will obtain better results.

Proteins’ main functions in sport activities:

Protein deficiencies in the sport diet may cause:

Decrease of the mental and body endurance capacity.

Insufficient body proteins formation, with the consequent muscular wasting and muscle mass loss.

Reduction of the enzymatic activity, thus implying a slowdown of the metabolic processes.

Lower resistance to infections.

Proteins take part as enzymes in the meta-bolic reactions, also including the synthesis and the breakdown of carbohydrates, lipids, etc.

Little involvement as energy contribution.Proteins only act as such when the carbo-hydrates and lipids reserves run out as a result of a diet not suitable for sport practice.

According to studies carried out by institutions and specialized research centres such as the UNED-Facultad de Ciencias y Nutrición Dietética, these are the recommended average protein necessities for sportsmen:

It is important to know the biological quality of the protein in order to guarantee the adequate protein contribution to meet the mentioned requirements.

10 | The new generation’s protein

How should I take Protebio ?During training and physical exercise, a process called catabolism occurs. Catabolism consists of the destruction of muscular proteins. This process must be minimized by means of an adequate input of nutrients _mainly proteins_, which will reduce the catabolic process and will stimulate the reconstitution of the muscular proteins.

If we bear in mind that an average input of recommended protein for a sportsman is 2g protein per kg/weight and, that an adult’s ave-rage weight is around 70 kg., the necessary daily intake of protein would be 140g approx. However, according to both the kind of sport activity and the intensity of the exercise, the recommended daily intake of protein may change.

Protebio® can be taken as protein supplement. If we have a varied and balanced diet (by taking different protein foods: meat, fish, egg, dairy products, soya…) the Recommended Daily Dose of Protebio®

would be 1 bag of 35g or 3 tablespoonfuls (30g approx.) distribu-ted in different intakes throughout the day and dissolved in juice, milk, yoghurts, etc. or by adding it to salads, creams, sauces…

In situations requiring a higher protein supplement, the intake of Protebio® could be up to 2 bags/day or 6 tablespoonfuls (60g approx.) distributed in different meals/intakes throughout the day.

Protebio is organic

Protebio® comes from certified organic agriculture; it means that it does not contain pesticides residues and that has been raised respecting the environment. It should also be noted that, compared with other proteins, the environmental cost of Protebio is lower:

Protebio® is a product obtained by means of natural extraction processes; these natural extraction processes contribute to the complete preservation of its excellent nutritional properties.

When can I take Protebio?Due to its slow absorption and, in order to get a greater assimilation of proteins, the most recommendable moments to take Protebio® are just before going to bed, between meals or several hours before practising sports. Thus, we get progressive amino acids assimila-tion.

As for its fibre contribution, Protebio® provides stable blood glucose levels.
