  • PROTECTINGPipeline Infrastructure.

  • With a proven track record in pipeline rehabilitation and protection, Radius Subterra offers unique, innovative and cost effective solutions for the protection and renovation of your offshore and onshore network throughout the full lifecycle of a project from pipe development and manufacture to installation.

As the heavy usage, corrosion and aging of older assets demand an increasing need for repair and maintenance of infrastructure, and lowering oil prices dictate a need for optimal value for money, our range of innovative lining and coating technologies have been designed to minimise operational expenditure.

By rehabilitating and protecting against both corrosion and structural damage, our technology can reduce the deterioration of your networks and the cost of their ongoing repair and maintenance to significantly increase the life of field. Working closely alongside clients, we carefully consider all aspects of pipeline works, including the rapid reconnection of pipes and return to service, the reduction of disruption to service and the retention of the volume and performance of the pipe.

With operations across the UK, Europe, Middle East and China, we are globally placed to provide services to key Oil and Gas locations to maximise value and significantly extend the lifetime of your network.

  • CORROSION REPAIR & PREVENTION Maximising Value & Extending Life of Field

Operating in harsh environments and susceptible to chemical and biological corrosion, the repair and protection of Oil and Gas infrastructure is critical to maintaining the integrity of pipeline infrastructure.

With a downturn in crude oil prices and a pressure to reduce OPEX spending, innovative and sustainable solutions must be found to optimise the performance and extend the lifetime of assets both topside and subsea.

With over 40 years of polymer expertise, our technologies provide a cost effective alternative to corrosion resistant alloys for the lining of pipelines.

Our technologies also allow for the repair and protection of topside pipelines, structures and equipment operated in corrosive environments and removes the need for pipe replacement and associated hot working.

    WATER INJECTION

Corrosion and leakage suffered by aging water injection pipelines can impede future oil production.

By pre-lining your pipelines with our close-fit polyethylene liners we provide a tight barrier against the existing pipe structure that protects against future corrosion. Less expensive than corrosion resistant alloys, this also reduces the thickness requirement of the carbon steel host pipe to decrease installation costs.

    HYDROCARBON LINES

Pitting, blistering and cracking caused by aggressive acidic corrosion of H2S within carbon steel pipelines can reduce performance and cause eventual failures.

Operating within each stage of your project’s lifecycle and utilising Radius Group’s specialist polymer expertise, we are working alongside clients to develop a solution to reduce corrosion and decrease future costs for pipelines transporting hydrocarbons.

    REHABILITATION

The replacement and repair of failed and leaking pipelines, and corroded structures can be expensive and impractical due to access restrictions and service disruption.

Our close-fit polyethylene liners can be installed in existing pipe work, without the need for any hot working activities. This will restore pipeline integrity and our spray coating technologies can be applied and dried within one hour to repair damage and protect against corrosion.

  • PROTECTION & REHABILITATION TO EXTEND THE FIELD LIFE OF YOUR PLATFORMS, VESSELS & INFRASTRUCTURE

Within the current market and as costs tighten for existing platforms, FPSOs, vessels and pipelines, our products are designed to extend asset lifetime in order to ensure

operators can maximise profit from each barrel of oil.

PROTECTIONOur technologies focus on the reduction of operational expenditure by protecting newly installed and existing pipelines, equipment and structures against future corrosion and damage.

By protecting against deterioration we can reduce the need for extensive maintenance and repair to extend asset lifetimes and improve your return on investment.

Working closely with operators and service companies we can help to protect new installations by pre-lining pipelines with our robust close-fit plastic liners, as well as coating new valves and equipment with our corrosion resistant resin to prevent deterioration as soon as they enter service.

SAFETYOur Subline technologies have been specifically designed for the repair and rehabilitation of pressure pipeline systems where access is difficult and reinstatement of maximum flow capacity is required.

Whilst operational expenditure is an ongoing requirement of asset preservation, pressure to reduce costs must be balanced against the necessity to ensure the highest levels of safety is maintained, whilst protecting and extending the intended lifetime of assets and equipment.

We support this requirement in a number of ways, ranging from the in situ pipe lining of existing pipe networks on platforms, refineries or transmission systems, to the coating and protection of external structures, equipment and pipelines to prevent further corrosion from the harsh environments that they operate in.

  • SUBLINE DR Diamater Reduced PR Liners

    Features & Benefits

Radius Subterra’s thick walled close-fit polyethylene lining technologies can be concentrically reduced by approximately 10% by passing it through a set of rollers and inserted into the host pipe by simply pushing and guiding it through pipe lengths of up to and exceeding 1km.

This technique removes the need for high winching loads and therefore greatly reduces the stresses on the plastic pipe and butt welds.

Once inserted, the pipe is immediately pressurised using cold water to return it to its original diameter.

    • A range of polyethylene pipe sizes from 100mm to 500mm.

    • Retains pipe flow capacity.

    • Fully pressure rated stand-alone pipe.

    • Corrosion resistant.

    • Close-fit smooth bore polyethylene liner for maximum flow capacity.

    • Liner pipe can be butt-fusion welded before or after the diameter reduction process.

    • Flexibility of installation - once processed, the liner holds its reduced diameter until reversion.

    • For pipe diameters from 75mm to 1500mm.

    • Spray thickness of 1mm to 7mm.

    • True polyurethane, epoxy-free formulation.

    • Smooth coating for increased hydraulic properties.

    • Fast-setting - the pipeline can be re-commissioned after 1 hour cure.

    • Excellent strength and stiffness with no shrinkage.

    Features & Benefits

    SUBCOTE FLP Protection & Rehabilitation

A polyurethane resin that has been used for several years for the renovation of water pipelines, SubcoteTM FLP is developed and manufactured by Radius Subterra at our UK plant.

Fast drying, SubcoteTM FLP allows for re-commissioning within one hour of spraying to ensure that your pipelines or equipment can be returned to service quickly, as well as enabling fast renovation work to be undertaken in areas with limited access or weather windows.

Using a dedicated hand spraying system the resin can be applied to structures or equipment, whilst a dedicated machine can be used to spray the resin onto or into pipelines in coatings from 1mm up to 7mm.

A process that allows the insertion of plastic lined pipes into new or existing pipelines for reel lay pipes, onshore pipelines or for the rehabilitation of damaged or corroded pipelines on platforms, vessels or refineries.

An innovative solvent-free lining solution, SubcoteTM FLP forms a resistant barrier layer for the protection and renovation of metallic structures and pipeline networks in diameters from 75mm to 1500mm.

  • APACHE NORTH SEA OIL RIG Riser Pipe Lining

The Forties Alpha oil production platform had begun to experience a significant increase in the expenditure associated with the consumption of filters that are used to reduce the levels of seawater contamination in the diesel fuel to an acceptable level.

The source of the seawater was traced to the corrosion and perforation of a 6" NB steel riser pipe inside one of the platform legs. This passed horizontally through the wall of the platform leg approximately 10 metres above sea level, before turning through a 90o bend and descending down the leg, through another two 45 degree bends, almost to the sea floor. Subterra used its specialist pipeline rehabilitation experience to develop a number of innovative adaptations of its existing technologies and devised a method to successfully slipline a 140m PE pipe liner from a single access point into the diesel riser pipe.

Replacing the riser would have cost £3.5M and taken significant time, but Subterra's innovations, reduced this cost to £250k and implemented the liner within a day, whilst ensuring it maintained the revised target bunkering rate of 80m3/hour.
