They are an integral part of the Cowlishaw community and we want to show them our graRtude by organizing a few events during the week. During the week of May 7th – May 11th the following programs have been planned for them: the students will give the teachers something special throughout the week (TBA), a “coffee break” with coffee and goodies, and a breakfast and raffle.
For the raffle, we would like to have as many giWs as possible for the staff so we are asking for an opRonal donaRon of $5 to purchase gi< cards and/or donated gi< cards. If you would like to par, cipate in the dona,on please send cash or check (made payable to JeaneGe Fitzgerald) no later than May 4th. Please put the dona,on in an envelope marked “Teacher Apprecia,on/J Fitzgerald” and send it to the office. Please note that giW cards will be raffled off and will not go to specific teachers.

March 2012 PTA Treasurer’s ReportIncome.
We received $196.88 from the Aurora skate night. This brings the total restaurant night net income to $1,077.17.
We received $575.90 from the fifth grade farewell shop. This gives them a net income of $217.07.
We made a net income of $99.36 from the last regular Manna orders. This brings the year to date Manna income from regular orders to $1,013.06. Thank you Mrs. Jen Phelan for all your hard work.
Expenses.
The culture fair expenses to date are $466.20. There may be a few more photocopying costs still to come in from reprographics.
We continue to fund field trips. In March we paid $235.50 to the school to cover bus expenses, and we paid $790.50 for poetry courses from "A Child's Voice". This brings the total expense to date for field trips to $3,444.50.
The teachers continue to redeem their manna teacher gift certificates. A final total of expenses will be available after the last Manna order.
We paid $315.26 for the Spring Teacher Luncheon. This was well below the budgeted total thanks to the work Mrs. Jen Mantia did in keeping costs down.
We have completed the Grade level Requests for 2011-12. The final total for grade level requests was $3,605.50. The grade level request buys the little items that enhance the school experience but aren’t covered in the school budget.
The PTA has a balance of $7,410.83 in its account in Oxford Bank. Don’t forget to support the fifth grade shop, place your Manna orders next month and keep clipping those box tops.

COWLISHAW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CELEBRATES EARTH DAY ALL WEEK LONG!
Monday, April 23 – IT’S EASY BEING GREEN – GREEN or EARTH SHIRT DAY! Weather you have a shirt with geographical art, a picture or drawing of our Earth, the brightest-green tee, or someone went somewhere and all you got is that lousy t-shirt, show your support of green efforts… on your chest! Wear your love for the Earth on your sleeve, and show your green pride.
Tuesday, April 24 – USE YOUR ENERGY – WALK TO SCHOOL DAY! Conserve fossil fuels and reduce pollution by using good-old-fashioned muscle power to get to school!
Wednesday, April 25 – UNPLUGGED – CRAZY HAIR DAY! Keep those heat-style tools unplugged today; let your hair get crazy and conserve some energy!
Thursday, April 26 – LESSON THE LAUNDRY LOAD! – PAJAMA DAY! Conserve water! Do
less laundry! Wear your PJs to school (teachers & staff, too)! **PLEASE NOTE: As stated in the District 204 Parent-Student Handbook, clothing must cover the torso. Underwear must be covered also. Neither thin-strapped pajamas nor slippers are allowed in school. Shoes must be worn with pajamas. Students that do not abide by these rules will be sent to the office to change their clothes.

PROUDLY BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE PTA!
POSTER/COLORING PAGE CONTEST FOR EARTH DAY: Starting April 9th, students at Cowlishaw will have a chance to participate in a poster/coloring page contest to show their support for the upcoming Earth Day (April 22, 2012). K-2nd grade will have a coloring page that will be provided and worked on in art class. 3rd-5th grade will have a blank piece of white construction paper provided in art class as well. Your child's work on this project is optional and can be worked on at home. Students can use markers, crayons and colored pencils. 3rd-5th grade may also use recycled items (such as foil, small plastic containers, lids, etc) to decorate the poster. The student's name and grade need to be labeled on the back. The contest will end on April18, 2012, so we can use them to decorate the school during Green Ribbon Week (April 23-27, 2012). The winners will be announced at the end of the day on April 20, 2012, and prizes will be awarded.
Please contact Jennifer Billadeau with any questions at 630-862-9553 [email protected]
COWLISHAW PTA ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITTEE USED KEY & GYM SHOE COLLECTION:
Let's do our part to help protect our environment by collecting old and unused keys (which are melted down & reused to make other metal items) and used gym shoes (which are grinded down & used to make playground surfaces, carpet padding, insulation, basketballs, frisbees & other Nike products).
Collection bins will be near the main entrance starting April 16 through April 27. These items will be donated to SCARCE for re-use. Start cleaning out your
closets...and help the environment! Thanks :)
Please join our Spring Fundraising Campaign - Butter Braids. We will be taking orders until 4/20/12 with deliver on Wednesday, 5/3/12. This is just in time for Mother's Day.
