It’s no secret that Providence is considered a national dining destination. With more than 80 restaurants concentrated in the downtown area alone, you’ll have plenty of great options to choose from!

Use this guide to make the most of your time here. We’ve organized downtown restaurants into 3 broad sections: Upscale Dining, Casual Eateries, and Quick Bites. Keep in mind—many restaurants don’t fall neatly into just one category. Our brief descriptions are accompanied by icons that indicate meals served, days of the week, and other details. Since hours and offerings tend to change, especially in the summer, we recommend confirming before you go.

New restaurants open here all the time, so visit our website, DOWNTOWNPROVIDENCE.COM, for updates throughout the year.

UNIVERSITY

Providence has more in common with our big city neighbors than you might expect. Plenty of world-class activities are concentrated downtown, just on a smaller scale. See a play. Experience WaterFire. Listen to lectures. Get tickets to a hockey game. Lace up a pair of skates. Go gallery hopping, or simply wander through the RISD Museum.

Plan ahead for your visit! Check out our online events calendar at DOWNTOWNPROVIDENCE.COM.

Our mission: to continuously

enhance the quality of life

in downtown Providence.

Since 2005, the Providence Downtown Improvement

District (DID) has provided supplemental clean and safe

services within the area bounded by Route 95, Memorial

Boulevard, Citizens Plaza, the Providence River and the

former 195 land. We also advocate for major downtown

initiatives, such as streetscape and sidewalk improvements,

and we manage downtown landscaping, hospitality,

marketing and economic development projects.
