Leader: What does the preface of the Lord’s prayer teach us?
ALL: The preface of the Lord’s prayer, (which is, Our Father which art in
heaven,) teacheth us to draw near to God with all holy reverence
and confidence, as children to a father, able and ready to help us;
and that we should pray with and for others.
PROVIDENCE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH MORNING WORSHIP
CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE DOXOLOGY, No . 731
Praise God from whom all blessings flow;
praise him, all creatures here below;
praise him above, ye heav’n-ly host:
praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. A-men
CORPORATE CONFESSION OF SIN
Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought,
word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We
have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as
ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of thy Son
Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will,
and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.
THE ASSURANCE OF GOD’S PARDONING GRACE ZEPHANIAH 3:17
The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice
over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with
loud singing.

CALENDAR OF THE WEEK
ELDER NOMINATIONS
Elder nominations are now open until October 14. As a church, we are trusting God to
call 2-3 new elders to our session. The biblical teaching on the elder is summarized in
our Book of Church order: Ordinary vocation to office in the Church is the calling of
God by the Spirit, through the inward testimony of a good conscience, the manifest
approbation of God’s people, and the concurring judgment of a lawful court of the
Church. A candidate should be an active male member of Providence who meets the
qualifications set forth in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1. If a man accepts his nomination, he
will be trained and then examined in Christian experience, doctrine, character, spiritual
gifting, and availability to the office of elder. The nomination forms are in the narthex.
This is a very exciting time for our church. Please be in prayer that God will provide
men that will lovingly and skillfully shepherd our church. The Session
CANDLELIGHT SERVICE REHEARSALS
Rehearsals for the Candlelight Service have begun on Sunday evenings at 7:15 p.m. If
you love to sing, and can read SATB music, we would love for you to help with this
worship service. However, there will be no rehearsal this Sunday evening. Rehearsals
will resume October 1st.
RESOURCE TABLE
If you would like to learn more about our current sermon series in The Lord’s Prayer
and the Apostles Creed, we have some books available at the resource table in the
narthex. Instructions for purchase are at the table!
SHOEBOXES
The Maner family served as missionaries in El Salvador for nearly two years working
with Bob and Angelique Kendrick through their organization, see
(http://kendrickministries.com). Almost 16 years ago, Bob Kendrick started a Christmas
box ministry as a way to give Christmas to the children in the area where he ministers.
The local churches Bob works with in El Salvador send him the names of children in
need to receive Christmas boxes. Our church is partnering with Mt. Salus to gather
shoe boxes for this ministry. The deadline for the boxes is November 2, 2018.
Donations are also being taken for shipping, please mark your check for Kendrick
Ministry. There is a handout for items needed on the table in the Narthex.
