• Purpose: To facilitate Mass participation within communities and schools through selected activities, empowerment of communities and schools in conjunction with relevant stakeholders.

• Objective: To promote mass participation programmes and support civil society structures so to create opportunities for all sporting communities across the age spectra to live a physically active life style.

• Outcome: Increased and sustained participation in sport through mass participation.

Conditional Grant Implementation2011/2012

1. Implementation is in line with the new focus of SRSA to deal with all schools and wards in the province.

2. Sport Assistants (volunteers in communities) 501 will be appointed dealing with schools and sport structures.

3. Out of 613 wards in the province, 501 wards will be serviced by the conditional grant.

Responsibilities: 1. Compile data base in relation to sport and recreation activities in

the ward.2. Monitor and Evaluate sporting activities in the ward supported

First Quarter: Major Achievements

Legacy Schools MPP Siyadlala

1. Distribution of equipment and kit: Buffalo City, Butterworth, Willowvale, Ngqutu, Ngculu, Centane, Mzwini.

2. Support given to the SA Games Programme. Districts were hosting provincial trials, together with federations.

3. Organised basic coaching clinics softball and netball in Mdantsane.

4. Hosting of Cacadu netball Championship Tournament in Somerset East.

5. MPP contributed to the public service Week in Karoo through equipment provision to schools and clubs.

1. Distributed equipment to schools in Butterworth, Elliotdale, Willowvale, Mount Coke.

2. Organised District Mini Olympics in Aliwal North (400 participants).

3. Joe Gqabi area partnerships were forged with Love Life and SASKO -sport leagues.

4. The EC Team were selected for the 14 World Gymnaestrada in Lausanne (93 participants)

1. Conducted Golden Games workshops in Grahamstown for volunteers working with the elderly.

2. Cacadu attended the Indigenous games festival in Alferd Nzo.

3. A football programme for 30 coaches were held in Ndlambe (Port Alfred) through the Stars in the Eyes Foundation (Dutch).

4. Organised a Metlife Mall/ DSRAC Fun Run & Road Running Race in King Williams town.

5. Organised Boxing Promotions tournaments with ECABO- EL and Mdantsane.

6. EC: referee fitness testing were held in East London.

Border Athletics Annual fun run and 10km race. To promote the establishment of athletics clubs in the King Williams Town area. Ginsberg, Bisho, Middeldrift, Keiskammahoek, Dimbaza, Needs Camp, Mount Coke. Bantu bonke (Ginsberg) hosted the event.

Border Cricket Developing coaches, umpires and scorers. Support the Rural cricket league through providing cricket balls and pilot a girls u/16 schools league programme. Developing a concept on how to keep schools cricket sustainable in rural areas.

EP and Border Rugby

Evaluation of Super 12 club competition between the top 6 clubs of Border and EP rugby. Supporting the Sub-Union leagues with providing incentives and equipment. Support the women leagues in Border (2) and EP (1).

Border Aquatics Assist with the establishment of clubs in Queenstown, King Williams Town, Engcobo, Mthatha, Aliwal North. To kickstart a league in November 2011 through level 0 competitions.

60 clubs benefitted, whereby coaches were trained in the latest fitness conditioning methods

Cricket scorers trained 27 Scorers are part of the Scorers Association of Border whereby they will receive a stipend when participating.

Cricket umpires 24 youth umpires included in the programme of Border Cricket, whereby they will receive a stipend , when they officiate in matches when season starts.

SAFA Referees DSRAC supported the training of 97 referees by Eastern Cape Referees Association and SAFA National, whereby the referees are currently participating in the Local Football Associations (LFA’s) - Dimbaza LFA, Zwelitsha LFA, Bredbach LFA, Bisho LFA and NEFA LFA. Due to the training referee structures were formed in the abovementioned areas.

Swimming new clubs were established in KWT, Engcobo, Mthatha, Queenstown, Zwelitsha, whereby a Level 0 competition will be established for swimmers

the business plan and the transfer of funds by SRSA. Processing of payments has moved speedily thereafter such that expenditure

Variance Explanation

1.Late transfer of funds by SRSA (30 April 2011)
