Just so folk know...
The Town is going to start the work to upgrade the parking systems and replace several ofthe parking booths at the MacMillan Pier and Grace Hall lots
The process will take two to three weeks, maybe longer.BUT we are NOT closing either lot and we only expect minor disruptions to service...folk maybe redirected to use different lot entrances and exits depending on where the crews are on
any given day...
At most- we may experience a handful of days where drivers are rerouted toalternate entrances and exits, but the lot itself will still be open and accessible toeveryone.
Ie, if on a day in November crews are working on the Lopes Square EntranceBooth, drivers will be directed to use the westerly Ryder St. Extension lane toenter the MacMillan Pier Lot.

While there is no hunting on Sundays, properly licensed individuals may still shoot on Sundays. Somehunters use this day to sight in their firearms or just target shoot.

Winter Wednesdays 2020: Call for InstructorsFebruary 5 – March 25
At the Provincetown Schools, 12 Winslow Street Winter Wednesdays 2020 is looking for instructors to share their hobbies, skills, or passions with thecommunity. Instructors will receive a stipend for teaching. the number of rides we’ve provided has increased by 34% andthe number of women served by HOW's financial assistance program has increased by 40% overthe same period last year.
So I write to share our appreciation for your engagement and support as a member of the HOWcommunity. Together, we continue to improve healthcare access for women on the Outer Cape.

A colorful handmade quilt will benefitCape Cod’s only community radio station
An exquisite quilt, handmade by textile artist Julia Willecke, is
being auctioned off by WOMR, the community radio station announced today. The quilt is a joyous riot of rainbow colors with a subdued elegant backing and measures four by five feet. It isvalued at $500, with an opening bid of $200 and a minimum $25 bid thereafter.“We are so fortunate to have such talented artists on the Cape and as part of our WOMR family,” says JohnBraden, WOMR’s executive director. “We’re delighted at Julia’s generous gift and hope it will generate a lot ofenergy—and bids! Whoever takes this home will be very lucky, and very warm.”WOMR recently announced its capital improvement campaign’s goals were met through communityparticipation and grants. The campaign to modernize, upgrade, and replace the broadcasting infrastructurewas successful and the studio upgrades are in process. However, none of those monies covers the station’songoing operating expenses, which rely heavily on membership pledges and events. Proceeds from the quiltauction will go toward those expenses.Bidding for the quilt is now open at www.womr.org and will close on December 16, 2019, at 3:00pm EST.

Cape Cod National SeashoreSwitches On New Electric Vehicle
Charging StationsThanks to a partnership between the National Park Foundation, National ParkService (NPS), Department of Energy (DOE), and BMW of North America, four(4) electric vehicle (EV) charging stations for the public have been installed at theWellfleet Town Hall parking area to serve the towns and Cape Cod NationalSeashore. The availability of this option will expand access for EV destination
travel and help reduce air pollution in parks and gateway communities
With the installation of charging stations at the Wellfleet Town Hall parking area complete, an integrated team fromthis public private partnership is continuing to install charging stations in or near additional national park areas. Whenidentifying site locations, the team is considering factors such as proximity and strength of EV markets, distance fromnearby charging locations, and natural and cultural landscape considerations. Dozens of parks and site hosts haveexpressed interest, exploring site options and completing installations. The Department of Energy’s Vehicle Technologies Office has provided technical assistance that supports innovativeenergy saving transportation projects at national park sites. These projects educate visitors on the benefits of advancedand alternative fuel vehicles and can help the National Park Service meet its energy, economic, and environmentalgoals. The benefits of these projects have the opportunity to reach far beyond the boundaries of the national parks.
Cape Cod National Seashore to Host Art Exhibit: Living in a Postcard
Cape Cod National Seashore to Host Art Exhibit: Living in a Postcard What’s it like to have a national seashore in your backyard? If you’re an artist, it means limitless opportunities forinspiration! From November 2019 through February 2020, six local artists will share their works at Salt Pond VisitorCenter in an exhibit titled, Living in a Postcard.
Works by Jody Shyllberg, Elaine Lobay, and Rebecca Gmucs are on exhibition in November and December. All arerecent “washashores” who have spent a lifetime visiting and painting en plein air at the national seashore. Ms.Shyllberg had a graphic design business; Ms. Lobay is a graphic designer and was a high school art teacher; and Ms.Gmucs worked in textile design and had a landscape design business.
Works by Ron Edson, Pat Nickerson, and Meg Schmidt will be on display in January and February. Mr. Edson is anartist and educator who relocated to the Cape from New York in 2007. Ms. Nickerson has lived here for over 30 yearsand shows her work across the Cape. A watercolorist and oil painter, Ms. Schmidt has lived on the Cape for over threedecades, and has entered many juried shows and won awards.
All of the artists are members of the Eastham Painters’ Guild. For the past several summers, guild painters haveencouraged conversation and shared their inspiration with both visitors and neighbors during plein air paintingsessions at seashore sites.
IF YOU GO: Salt Pond Visitor Center is located at 50 Nauset Road at the intersection of Route 6 in Eastham, and canbe reached at 508-255-3421. The center is open daily from 9 am to 4:30 pm, with staff to assist with activityplanning. Visit the museum, view the new park film, enjoy panoramic views of Salt Pond and Nauset Marsh, and shopin the gift and bookstore featuring national seashore-related items. Cape Cod National Seashore to Install New Walkway atProvince Lands Visitor Center
Provincetown, MA – A new walkway will be installed beginning the week of November 12, 2019 atProvince Lands Visitor Center located at 171 Race Point Road in Provincetown, MA. This project will removethe existing ramp and install a new concrete walkway with landings and railings from the parking lot curb cutto the visitor center.
Superintendent Carlstrom announced that "The new accessible ramp is just one of many deferredmaintenance projects the park is undertaking. This is a design/build project resulting in the accessibility ofthe visitor center to all of its 250,000-plus annual visitors."
While the ramp is closed for construction, access to the visitor center via the existing stairway will enablevisitors to access the lower level outdoor observation deck, where whales, seabirds, the historic dune shacks,and the Atlantic can be viewed.
The visitor center closed for the season on October 31, 2019. Henry General Construction of Springfield, MAhas been awarded the contract to be completed prior to the re-opening of the visitor center in May 2020.

On Tuesday, November 19, 2019,the Center for Coastal Studies (CCS)Marine Debris and Plastics Program
will host a community celebration event,the Local Bounty Banquet,
to raise matching funds in support of its ongoingeffort to recover lost, abandoned or discarded
fishing gear from the ocean.
From 1979 – 1997, CCS held an annual Trash Fish Banquet as a fund-raiser and community outreach event.In a 1990 Boston Globe article, David DeKing, then the Center's executive director, said, "Our original goalwith the banquets was to address the woeful lack of sensibility to the ocean's resources. We've made a real
dent, I think.” Since then, many former “trash fish” species have been featured onseafood menus around the region.
This year, the Local Bounty Banquet will continue in the spirit of the Trash Fish Banquet, celebrating theincreased “sensibility to the ocean’s resources” and recognizing the contribution made by commercial
fishermen to the health of the Cape Cod Bay ecosystem. The Banquet will highlight the CCS fishing gearremoval project and will feature seafood and other dishes contributed by supporting chefs.
Since 2013, the CCS fishing gear removal project has involved commercial lobstermen recovering lost,abandoned or discarded fishing gear from the bottom of the Bay (including nets, rope, traps, buoys, cable,
monofilament, etc.) which is then either returned to the owner, recycled or incinerated for electricity.Over 85,000 pounds of DFG has been recovered to date.
The 2019 recovery effort was funded by the NOAA Marine Debris Program.
The Local Bounty Banquet will begin at 5 pm with a cocktail hour at theCenter for Coastal Studies, 5 Holway Avenue, Provincetown.
The evening includes a buffet at St. Peter’s event hall; a brief presentation by Laura Ludwigabout the project and the collaborating fishermen; a slide show depicting scenes from the
project over the years; music by special guests; an exhibit of artwork featuring marine debriscontributed by diverse artists; and special Local Bounty Banquet tee-shirts. Tickets will be
available to the general public for a prix fixe,and will go on sale in November.

SPECIAL TOWN MEETING TO TAKE PLACE ON DEC. 2The Select Board voted Monday to hold a special town meeting to consider the Fire Department’s proposal touse the former Veterans of Foreign Wars land for a new substation. The fire engineers would like the land tobe used for a new police station, a future Fire Department substation and for an outdoor training facility.
Events over the past year, including a flood in January, have shown that there’s a need for more resources atthe fire station, including new trucks, more bunks and more space to train, Trovato said. One of the majorreasons a substation is needed is the lack of space at the current station at 25 Shank Painter Road. Trovatosaid when they have extra firefighters from other towns come to help, they are often left sleeping in crampedlocations including air mattresses on the floor.
“These people are willing to come here and they’re willing to do shifts for us but we have to have theaccommodations for them,” Trovato said. “It’s just not a very healthy way for these people to be living.”Back in 2016, the Select Board voted to use the former VFW property for affordable housing and explore theidea of making the land across the street at 16 Jerome Smith Road into a police station. Taxpayers shotdown that initial proposal because it would cost $12.5 million.
Then, in June, Trovato submitted a letter to the Select Board asking it to reconsider the use of the land. Allmembers of the fire department had signed the letter but it was not initially read into the public record. Now,the fire engineers have gathered more than 200 signatures in order to call for the special town meeting totake place on Dec. 2.

The Annual Lighting of the Monument on Nov. 27th is traditionally held the night before Thanksgiving to commemoratethe first landing of the Mayflower Pilgrims in Provincetown Harbor in 1620.The lights, which include 3,100 ‘landing lights’ in 19 strands draped from top to bottom of the historic 252-foot structure,will shine every night through January 6, 2020. These lights represent the five weeks that the Pilgrims spent inProvincetown Harbor onboard the Mayflower before sailing to Plymouth. This year, the Annual Lighting ceremony will honor the Wampanoag people who were living on Cape Cod before thePilgrims arrived. The Museum is revamping its exhibition of the Mayflower Room to tell a more accurate story of theWampanoag people and their interactions with the Pilgrims. The new exhibition will be open in 2020 to coincide withthe 400th anniversary commemoration of the Pilgrims first landing. Other exciting events happening this holiday season including a “meet and greet” with the Boston Gay Men’s Choruson Holly Folly Weekend complete with Hot Chocolate and Holiday Cookies, and a special event for First LightProvincetown, a fundraiser for the PMPM with a champagne reception, oysters and fireworks seen from thespectacular grounds of the Monument. Plus, if you’re looking for a special gift for someone for the holidays, the PMPMGift Shop has many unique items made by local artisans. “We started opening for the holidays two years ago and it has been a real success. Provincetown 400 today announced that the Boston Gay Men’s Chorus has been added to the program of events inSeptember 2020, to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower Pilgrims first landing in the new world inProvincetown in 1620. On September 13, 2020, the Boston Gay Men’s Chorus, featuring up to 200 members, will arrive in Provincetown viaferry and will perform three selections that reflect the occasion during a ceremony to honor the Mayflower Pilgrims.An estimated 2,000 members of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants will attend a ceremony inProvincetown Harbor where they will lay a wreath in the Harbor to honor their ancestors. There will be a re-enactment of the signing of the Mayflower Compact, followed by a “Pilgrims Procession” by the GSMD, escorted bymembers of King Hiram’s Lodge of the Provincetown Masons and the New Plimmoth Gard who will march fromProvincetown Harbor to the Pilgrim Monument where they will have lunch. “We’re honored to participate in marking the historic arrival in Provincetown of the Pilgrims, who were seeking thefreedom to worship and live as they chose, and to honor the Native People who were already here,” said CraigCoogan, executive director of Boston Gay Men’s Chorus. “Provincetown has long been a beacon of freedom for ourcommunity and we look forward to celebrating its unique place in history.” It was in Provincetown Harbor where the Pilgrims signed the Mayflower Compact, the first governing document ofcolonial America.
